Game Thread W9 - Miami V Baltimore (1 Viewer)

Did the rules change? I thought if you slid feet first the defense wasn't supposed to hit you, let alone lead with their helmet.
Ray Lewis is allowed to play by a different set of rules. I would've had no problem if he would've stopped and just fell on Henne, but he still delivered a hit.
That is true, Lewis can kill a dude and not go to jail, so you have to figure a late hit isn't that big of a deal...

I feel like Miami has abandon the run game.

Do what you do best, instead they are playing right into the Raven's hands.

Is Ray Rice the next Barry Sanders? I mean do everything but score TD's. Rice is amazing but just doesn't seem to score tds.

Drops kill the Dolphins every single week. First the easy 3rd down catch by Ronnie Brown and then on the ensuing possession the free pick six bounces right off Sean Smith's chest.

This is so depressing. This is the damned NFL. How can so many guys playing in the NFL not catch a damn football?

Boldin was just targeted twice. First one should have been a pick 6 for Miami, the second a deep ball over the head in the end zone, uncatchable. I should also mention that the two RB's are getting their share of short dump off passes from Flacco.

Carpenter's streak of 14 consecutive field goals comes to an end as he misses from 46 yards out. Ravens continue to lead 20-10, early 4th quarter.

Cundiff is good from 20 yards out, Ravens lead 23-10 with 6 minutes left. Boldin had 2 catches on the drive, a 20 yard pass down the middle and then a 6 yard out.

A six minute drive for a FG that puts them up 13, that's the Ratbirds 4th quarter formula.

I don't really know what to make of this game. The Dolphins have done some good things from time to time but they've also made some glaring mistakes and are getting gashed with some regularity on defense. It sorta reminds me of the two games these teams played in 2008.

Well, that should do it. This game was closer for longer than the final score would leave a non-watcher would believe. It's funny, both teams could say they should've won this one.

6-2 and on to Atlanta Thursday night.

I agree that it was closer than the final score might indicate. The difference was the Baltimore defense stepped up their game in the second half. I think Miami went away from the running game too early, but they also didn't have the ball that much in the second half as Baltimore really controlled time of possession. I don't know that Miami can claim they should have won, too many mistakes.

great pick by reed.
Brutal effort by Marshall on the play, Reed was in the right spot at the right time.
It's very possible that Ray Lewis had an influence on Marshall's effort.Good things the Ravens did: got big mileage out of the checkdowns to Rice, ran with authority at various times, the fake punt. Bad things the Ravens did: early wasted red zone opportunities, failed to protect Flacco very well, Fabian Washington had to be replaced -- again.Four mistakes that killed Miami:1. Missing an open Fasano in the end zone early in the game2. The dropped pick six3. Blowing the deal on the fake punt4. Carpenter's first missed FG in a million years. It seems that the Fins have played a brutal schedule so far, even tougher than the Ravens, who have played a few heavyweights themselves. If anything, however, Miami's division is even more difficult than the AFC North so it might be a tough climb for them to reach the playoffs. Half of Baltimore's remaining games are against the NFC South, starting with Thursday night in Atlanta. If they can go 3-1 there, the playoffs are starting to look pretty good.

Four mistakes that killed Miami:

1. Missing an open Fasano in the end zone early in the game

2. The dropped pick six

3. Blowing the deal on the fake punt

4. Carpenter's first missed FG in a million years.

:goodposting: I wouldn't be surprised to see Josh Wilson replace Fabian Washington at starting CB Thursday night. What the hell happened to Washington? He played well early in the season but he's sunk to Frank Walker-esque levels lately.

The dropped pick-six was the biggest single play in the game. This wasn't a play where he might've caught the ball and might've scored. This was as close to a sure thing as there is. The Miami CB jumped an out route, the ball hit him right in the hands, had nothing but green in front of him, and was already in stride. All he had to do was catch the ball. That would've made it 20-17 and it's anyone's game.

The Ravens "tackling" in the first half might be the worst I've seen by anyone all year, maybe topped only by Miami's pitiful attempt at it in the second half.
