Generation Wuss (1 Viewer)

Older generation whining about kids today being spoiled/lazy/soft? No way!
Yeah...but if you actually take the time to read it, it is pretty dead on.
I read it. Every generation whines about the generation after it. Some of it is justified. Some of it isn't. Same as it ever was.
I don't look at the article as so much a criticism, more like a eulogy...this generation has an interesting combination of narcissism, weakness, and lack of opportunity. We are nanoseconds away from the college bubble finally blowing and they are the ones most affected by it. This is truly a large group of people who have been sold a bill of goods that is going to blow up in their faces. Sort of like watching a car crash.

Sounds largely like every other generation.

Nope...all civilizations come to an end. I am betting that this is the group that will end it. 30 years from now, one of these pissants is going to get his undies in a bundle and start a lethal nuclear robot war.

Actually, I am pretty sure our only hope is that the Latinos take over, because they actually have a much stronger disposition that the wimps we have raised over the last 20 years.

So in essence, our only hope is that by 2040, we are looking at President Rodriquez instead of President Wilson.

In February I gave an interview to Vice UK to help promote a film I had written and financed called The Canyons—I did the press because there was still the idea, the hope, that if myself or the director Paul Schrader talked about the film it would somehow find an audience interested in it and understand what it was: an experimental, guerilla DIY affair that cost $150,000 dollars to shoot ($90,000 out of our own pockets) and that we filmed over twenty days in L.A. during the summer of 2012 starring controversial Millennials Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen. The young journalist from Vice UK asked me about the usual things I was preoccupied with in that moment: my admiration of Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street—the best film I saw in 2013 (not great Scorsese, but better than any other American film that year) and we talked about the movie I’m writing for Kanye West, my love of Terrence Malick (though not To The Wonder), a miniseries I was developing about the Manson murders for FOX (but because of another Manson series going into production at NBC the miniseries has now been cancelled), the Bret Easton Ellis Podcast (link), the possibility of a new novel I had begun in January of 2013 and that I lost interest in but hoped to get back to; we talked about my problems with David Foster Wallace, my love of Joan Didion, as well as Empire versus post-Empire (link) and we talked about, of course, The Canyons. But the first question the young journalist asked me wasn’t about the movie...
Ah, so all of that #### you made me read before, all that name-dropping and touting your projects and your "unique" and pithy takes on the entertainment world, didn't have a damn thing to do with the point of your article? Great way to start, writer guy.

I'm not in the generation in question...but I call bs on any boomers calling any other generation out. It's because of the most selfish, original entitlement generation who have leeched the system that we have the financial problems that we do nowadays. F the boomers.

And kind of, well, narcissistic, no?

Also, what's weird is that Bret Easton Ellis seems to have made (I've only seen the movies, it's true) his career off of calling most everybody in America narcissists. Why is this particular generation worse? Perhaps maybe he's an expert, or perhaps he just sees narcissism everywhere.

Also, the NSFW complaint is completely true. I never want to see Lena Dunham cuddling any time that I'm on the job.

He's Gen X not Boomer. It's in the article.

Hard to find another generation more narcissistic than the boomers.

Why so sensitive?

Generation Wuss was gifted access to all the information in the world, literally at their fingertips, yet their generation may be the dumbest ever. Most have zero recall of any useful information itself, only where to access it. They have to search Google for everything and search trends will tell you all you need to know about the stupid questions they are asking and their equally vapid interests. As a result, they fail to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills since almost all the knowledge is stored in their smartphone or the cloud, but not in their head. But please don't call them no-talent, stupid, goalless idiots because that would be bullying.

Odd reading this with an av of Kurt Warner and his dominant Christian wife.

This has got to be satire.

Ellis made a career (at least early on) writing about spoiled, narcissistic, entitled rich kids. Hell, he was one of those kids.

Yes, look at you, Bret Easton Ellis. Lol at a guy who made a career off of selling narcissism writing an utterly narcissistic article where he calls everyone else a narcissist.

FTR, I'm a narcissist millennial, but he needs to look in the ####### mirror.

Ah, let me rant amigo. I'm on airplanes and drunk today

I wonder if there ever was a generation that looked at the generation that came after it and thought "Wow! They are way better than we ever were!"

Like the generation of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Adams, Madison, Hamilton, Jay, and Franklin. Did their parents say "Oh! These kids think they are so great just because they founded a new nation? Boo hoo! In my day, we carved the colonies out of a wilderness! They had to do nothing!"

“Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.”Socrates
"I bet there were people in the Bible walking around complaining about kids today. " --Roger Sterling

That's stereotyping!

You guys are a bunch of jerks. That is it. I am leaving this place FOR GOOD!!!!!!!

I don't care what anybody says, I've endured enough insults from the likes of drummstick, appletwit, and steve from minecraft. See ya later, I am taking my talents to 4chan.

Yeah, kids these days.

Oh, also, the geezers with the death grip on every position of power in the free world who have no intention of passing that power down to the next generation before they leave the entire fiscal and physical worlds little more than emaciated, sucked-dry husks -- those guys suck also.

Yeah, good idea. I'm sure you'll fare better in the nurturing 4chan environment.

But he was born in 64. That's before gen x, no?

My personal experience as a teacher is that kids are becoming better people. I have a lot of hope for the youth. They have their faults, but they seem to be genuinely good people. The kids I taught 8 years ago vs now are worlds apart. It could be a regional thing, but these kids are polite, accepting and hard working. I just hope the older generations steer them into the right directions. I
