Gerris Wilkinson WLB NJG (1 Viewer)

There was some speculation in camp whether Wilkinson would start at WLB this year for the Giants. Emmons was injured through most of the pre-season and the coaches were very happy with what they saw from the rookie. Personally I was surprised to see Emmons keep his starting job. So, through the first two games, Emmons posted some really nice numbers and I have to admit that I started losing hope for Gerris. This was also Emmons first chance to be a full time WLB. So, after two weeks I have to admit that I started to think his numbers were something that may actually stick through the season if he remained the starter. The reasoning behind this was that even though he was listed as a WLB last year, he rarely played there. He ended up playing SLB through most games. After the Giants picked up Arrington to play SLB I thought this could be a great sign for whoever played the WLB role. Which is why I wasnt at all surprised at Emmons tackle numbers thus far.

But, something happened this week. Emmons didnt seem to be on the field all that much. Instead Gerris Wilkinson showed up in the boxscore and doubled Emmons output. Now, I have no idea what that means or why exactly he got the playing time he did(not yet anyway), nor do I have an answer as to what is going to happen going forward. But if a switch is made, I think Gerris could be a nice find for some deeper IDP leagues if he manages to take over at some point.

LB Emmons Expected To Miss Up To Four Weeks

Mike Garafolo, Newark Star-Ledger - [Full Article]

LB Carlos Emmons has cornered the market on tears. The starting weakside backer has suffered another small tear in his pectoral muscle, this time on the left side, according to someone with knowledge of Emmons' medical condition. The source said Emmons is expected to miss three to four weeks. Emmons, 33, suffered a small tear in his right pectoral last year and missed the next three games, but returned for the next four. He aggravated the injury and was placed on injured reserve in December. Rookie LB Gerris Wilkinson and LB Brandon Short are the leading candidates to start in Emmons place.

Wilkinson, is athletic and like Michael Boley last year, he needs a more permanent injury to occur to make an impact this year.

Emmons is so old and injured you have to think it will happen -- but the pectoral muscle only to sideline him a week or two

Gerris Wilkinson - LB - New York Giants Oct 2, 2006

Gerris Wilkinson will start at weak-side linebacker for the Giants in Week 5 against Washington.

Carlos Emmons is out for at least two games. Wilkinson, who played inside in college, is suddenly an IDP sleeper in deep leagues. Take a look at him if you need a quick fix. Source: Newsday

Brandon Short - LB - New York Giants Oct 6, 2006

Brandon Short, not rookie LB Gerris Wilkinson, will start at weak-side linebacker for the Giants this week.

This is a surprise. Short is a decent last-minute for IDP league players in deep leagues. Source: Newsday

Ah Well, hopefully he will get some snaps out there at least.
