My daughter (age 21) thinks it's stupid that TBS is showing it 24 hours straight.

I tell her...it's a tradition.

That said...she's on either her second or third viewing.

"My father works in profanity like other artists work in oils or clays. It was his true medium; a master"

Still have never seen it. Maybe I'll set the DVR.
One year I will get around to watching this.
Me too. It was released just before I turned 19 which was drinking age at the time, so for many years after that I was probably at the bar and never even heard of it. And working full time, sometimes nights for years after that, I still hadn't heard of it.

My grandmother's second husband is basically the father in this movie. I pointed this out to her on Christmas day and for the first time ever, she realized it as well. We always have it playing on Christmas morning at her house.

Between my football coach father and my grandmother's second husband, I could cuss as soon as I could say momma and dadda.

The actor in this movie even looks like him. It's uncanny.

I have to watch Christmas Vacation and Christmas Story each year. Elf is growing on me as well, although I have yet to see it this year. I have it recorded and plan on starting it in the next 30 minutes or so.

Only watched it twice this year, we're slipping. It's just not the same anymore since Pops took off though. Still, I did get a double-dog dare you T-shirt this year.

Watch the scene in the restaurant closely. I'm pretty sure Darren McGavin is the only one that knows how that scene is supposed to go.

Melinda Dillon (the mother) appears to be genuinely laughing in surprise as the scene plays out.

And Billingsly (Ralphie) just about jumps out of his skin when the guy chops off the duck's head.

"It's...smiling at me."
