Get your "A Christmas Story" on tonight (1 Viewer)

Does NO ONE have a problem with the Dad ratting out Ralphie to the Mom for dropping the F-bomb after the DAD knocked the hubcap outta Ralphie's hands? The apple doesn't fall far from the tree...Ralph then rats out Schwartz! Nice role model, Dad!
Not given the context of the movie.Dad is frustrated with a flat tire. Dad didn't want Ralphie's help. If Ralphie wasn't sitting there trying to help, Dad wouldn't have knocked the hubcap out of his hands. Lastly, in the "do as I say, not as I do" era, totally expected that dad would rat out Ralphie. It's probably not the best parenting in 2012, but something that would have totally happened in that era.
I knew it was set years ago but didn't realize it was in the 40s. Crazy to see how different things were then.

I'm a big fan of the movie and always tune in, either for a full showing or in several pieces throughout the day...but can anyone tell me how/why this marathon tradition started? Google tells me it's been going since 1997 (on TNT, before going to TBS in 2004). Just curious.
I think it started when multiple channels had rights to air it and they showed it constantly throughout the month of December. It was over the top with multiple channels showing it at the same time. I'm assuming one channel bought the rights and showed it as a marathon. Pretty sure it used to be 48 hours of it. It's become as big of tradition at my house as a tree and gifts. Even if it's on mute the tv is showing a Christmas story.

My girls are just barely old enough to watch this and they loved it. I bought it in HD on Amazon like a sucker, but I hate commercial breaks even of I DVR'd it.

I'm always curious to read reviews even on stuff I have already seen so I was reading the Amazon reviews and apparently there are about 8 of these movies and most aren't about Christmas.

The largely unadulterated love for this film (and I count myself as a member of the chorus and I remember seeing it as a six year old or so in the mid 80s and IMMEDIATELY loving it then), that in this day and age, a movie about a kid lusting after a gun is still championed and there hasn't been more of an opposition to the film.

I like right after that where he say something like "I was a scoffer but it didn't pay to take chances at zero hour." Never caught that like before.

Just started on TNT.
Life boy?
Correct spelling is Lifebuoy.
Its not like I'm eighty years old and would know that.
I wasn't being critical. Just wanted to note the spelling. I am not 80 either. I don't know if you are a baseball fan or not. Lifebuoy used to advertise on outfield walls. If you look at some old photos you may come across Lifebuoy ads on the outfield wall in Ebbets Field and maybe Griffith Stadium (not totally sure if they had ads in that park).

Every family has one kid that refuses to eat.

Meatloaf Shmeatloaf, I hate Meatloaf.

My mother has not sat down and eaten a hot meal in over 10 years.

only gets better with Christmas story

My favorite part, and it makes me tear up every single time is the look that Ralph and his dad shoot each other when The Old Man says "Say...that's funny. Look over there. Go check it out."

The look from the Old Man says to Ralph, "I love you, son. And when the world is against you from the irrational fears of the women in your life (e.g. Your mother/teacher) keeping you from your dreams, or you're bullied, or when even Little Orphan Annie and Santa himself lets you down...I'm your dad. And I've ALWAYS got your back."

And Ralphie's look back says, "You're the greatest, dad. And I love you too."

I love this movie and the marathon has been a personal tradition since TBS started it in 97. Now my kids love it. My wife hates every second it is on.
