What a great game. Hats off to that Niners team as they are one good team and that defense is something special.

Great game. I was very impressed with the 49er defense. Seemed like every swing pass the Giants had was for a short gain as the defender took down the Giant receiver after the reception. No broken tackles at all. That's where the Giant receivers are at their best and one of the reasons why the Giants passing attack was limited (along with the good coverage downfield and the incessant pass rush).

Why in the world did the Giants call timeout with a little over three minutes left? Was that just a questionable decision by Coughlin or did they have the wrong set of people on the field?

Great game that adds to the amazing playoff history between these two franchises.

I was feeling pretty good at halftime. Felt the Giants were dictating the game, even though the margin was only 3 points. Eli wasn't being rushed at all. Giants were controlling the clock and save for one bad lapse with Vernon Davis they were in command. Then came the third quarter when the Niners just dominated on both sides. Eli couldn't get a first down and the Niners rush was really knocking him around. On the flip side, Alex Smith was making the crowd believe the Niners were destined to advance. Then the 4th quarter came around and neither team could move the ball. Awesome display of physical, punishing defense from both sides. I give the Giants D a lot of credit for digging deep as they were beginning to look tired and defeated at the end of the third.

As often happens, mistakes define the game. Giants got the better end of that equation which allowed them to take a second half lead and eventually win in overtime.

While the story of the game should be the turnovers and the strong D played by both teams, third down efficiency shouldn't be overlooked. SF converted only one all game and that was on the last play of regulation when the Giants were defending the deep stuff. So really, the Giants D held the Niners without a meaningful 3rd down conversion all day. That's impressive. Giants only converted 33% and the huge majority of that was in the first half. Man that second half was just two teams punching each other in the mouth. Shame to see both games decided on a mistake but it's part of the game.

SF appears to have a bright future ahead of them. They're young and this will only make them hungrier. I wouldn't want to have to play them again in next years playoffs.

Congrats to the Giants. I always did like Eli especially having to live up to big brother Peyton. Tough task.I'm not so sure the Giants would have won that game had it not been for the 2 costly mistakes of Kyle Williams. No, I'm not blaming the loss on him. He's a 2nd yr. player and even seasoned vets make mistakes. I just had this feeling once the game started that Kyle Williams was gonna have problems. He did have a pretty good return though but the 2 mistakes(ball hitting knee, fumble) were huge in the outcome of the game. I'm not saying either that the Giants didn't deserve to win. They did. They've played great in the playoffs and I'll root for them in the superbowl. You gotta have stud/star players on offense to win titles and at this point right now the 49ers don't have enough IMO. Frank Gore & Vernon Davis are only the 2 real studs they have on O right now. Alex Smith has played well this year but he is not a star.

Seemed like the 49ers had trouble moving the ball and except for a couple of big plays the offense was dull.It was still an exciting game to watch and that's what you want from your conference title games. Smith may even improve next year, if they resign him, but the 49ers desperately need some stud receivers for him to get the ball to. For all the hype that Crabtree came out with he has not developed to the point of being a solid #1 WR.We need a stud #1 receiver. Until we get some receivers to help out the NFC title game may be as far as we get. I think the defense held up very well and they'll continue to be a force for the 9ers in the future.

I thought we should have won that game but we all know turnovers will kill you and that was our downfall. I am still excited about the 49ers future and the direction we're going. I'm very happy with the defense but we desperately need to improve on offense if we're to get our 6th Superbowl Ring. Hats off to the Giants and good luck in the superbowl. You've proved you can beat the Pats and they'll be wantin' revenge. Should be a good game.

Pitiful display of offensive football in the 4th Quarter and Overtime. It looked like 2 drunk virgin hippos trying to [make sweet hippo love] for the first time. Disgraceful. For awhile there I was pretty sure the game would never end.

Or two fantastic defenses slugging it out... I'm guessing you're the type of guy who appreciates 15-14 home run fest baseball games over a 1-0 pitchers duel. Not an insult, for there are a lot of people like that. So many so that the NFL has been catering it's rules to help make that happen for years. Just didn't happen yesterday.

I think it was two very good defenses slugging it out against two inept offenses.

It's simple, if they force Alex Smith to throw, SF is toast. If they hit Eli a couple times, NY is toast. This will be a defensive game.
Far from the truth
Eli impressed me. His rep is that he would fold when you hit him. Dude is a rock. Congrats Giants fans.
Again ... That's just not true and never was
Dear Qim and Jed,Eli has been portrayed as soft out here on the West Coast. I'm sorry that hurt your feelings. On the bright side, he sure proved everybody wrong.

Congrats on the win, and good luck against NE.

It seems that once 48 hours are past the conference title games the analysis of that game ends and all the attention goes to the Super Bowl. It's a shame because barring Eugene Robinson's there's no such thing as a two week storyline and we're subjected to a lot of reporting about a whole lotta nothing. That being said I have a lot of questions about the Niners now that I've had the opportunity to see them face the Giants twice. You can't help but be impressed with the job Harbaugh has done with the team. He's really coached up Alex Smith and has him playing with confidence and the support of his teammates. So if Harbaugh can get these results from Smith, what's going on with Crabtree? I agree that the Niners with another weapon on O would make for a tough matchup for the opposition on most Sundays. Crabtree looks disinterested out there. I'm sure that's not the case but he doesn't seem to play with the same passion that VD and Gore possess. Will be interesting to see if he continues to develop.I do think the Niners have a dandy in Kendall Hunter. Once Gore hangs it up the Niners backfield will be in good hands. I've never been much of a Gore fan but he played really gutty yesterday. I came away impressed.
