Giants | Jacobs limited during practice WednesdayWed, 19 Dec 2007 10:11:10 -0800Updating a previous report, New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) was limited during practice Wednesday, Dec. 19. He is expected to play Week 16
Just something to keep an eye on.

i have to say, jacobs is VERY talented. Alot more talented than I thought. But he has no business being a fulltime back. WAAAAY too injury prone. And people wonder why Coughlin uses Droughns at the goalline.

I'm curious as to why Jacobs is ranked so highly in the current cheatsheet rankings.... ?
That was a complete shock to me also. Droughns only had 1 carry last week so maybee that factored in. It was a 4th and 1 from the Wash. 39. Droughns had a couple of incomplete passes thrown his way. I cant see Jacobs so high the way he gets taken out and how much a china doll he is.

Jacobs injuries have really not been from being used a lot or banged around like we all thought. His knee injury was a fluke injury when his own lineman got knocked back on him when he was planted. Then he hurt his hammy. The hammy is what is keeping him limited. Beyond that he is fine.

Because:1) The OL is good at Run blocking2) The OL is terrible at pass protection3) Because the #1 receiver can't cut and get separation4) Because the #2 receiver is the slowest in the league AND can't catch AND does not come back for a ball5) Because their TE is out for the year because their #2 WR whiffed on a block and fell on the back of his leg6) Because Jacobs is more talented than people think.

He is way too big for a running back. As a tackler you can't miss him and as a runner he cannot be missed. He will always be banged up.

Alot of players sat Wednesday for all teams. It's pretty common this time of year

Watching the game Sunday, you got the feeling he was going to get min. 6 yds every time he touched the ball in the 2nd half. In fact, I can't believe the Giants didn't take at least 1 series where they pounded him almost every play late in the game. I know he can't take the punishment to do that every series, but the G-men desperately needed a score.

I'll buy that he's injury prone or at least is one of those guys who doesn't play well through pain ala Fred Taylor earlier in his career. However, to say he's not a productive RB when he's in there is just plain off, no matter the reason. Production is production. Are Westbrook/MJD too small? Go ahead and pass on them. I'll take 'em and their #'s.

One other note- yes it's not good when guys miss games due to injury, but if you know they are injured, you don't play them. Yes, it would have been nice to have Jacobs for 15 games, but I'll take his 14ppg 'healthy games' over Thomas Jones who plays every game and gives you subpar production. You can likely replace Jacobs when he's hurt w/ an adequate fill in and reap the benefits when he's healthy...like now in the playoffs

 The good thing about Jacobs is he is either "OUT" or plays a good game. You dont get any KJ type of games with him.

If that guy will ever learn to catch he would be unbelievable. Give him the ball with a three or four step start and only one or two guys out there to run over and he could have had over two hundred total against Washington easy. I don't understand the Giants running him down the field and then when they get inside the 40 they go to the pass exclusively. Just plain stupid. Jury's still out on whether he is injury prone or not as that first one would have injured ANY player and the hammy could be a result of the first limiting his workouts. I'll say this WHEN he is not hurt and playing he's a bad mutha but it sucks to see a thread every week about the guy being limited in practice or questionable.

One thing is certain...Ruben ain't s#$%.

If only someone would have told everyone that in the pre-season....
So long as you grabbed Derrick Ward, the Giants running game was money this year. I'm in the Super Bowl with Jacobs, and he won me the semi-final in dramatic fashion. If you bought Jacobs on the cheap and were savvy enough to pick up Ward in Week 1, chances are you landed a #1 RB at a very nice price.

from Rotoworld...

Brandon Jacobs was expected to be somewhat limited by a sore hamstring Wednesday, but put in a full practice and isn't on the Giants' injury report

RB Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) was out there doing everything. He looks to be okay.

news star ledger for thursday practice

im riding him to the title :lmao:

He's the worst receiver I've seen this year. He's playing volleyball out there.
Isn't he generally regarded as having good hands, though? IRRC, his hands were mentioned as a positive trait previously. I'm hoping this last game was an abberation. It was ugly, though.
I dont remember seeing him have issues with catching the ball last year and he was in alot on 3rd downs. :jawdrop:

Generally his hands are good. This past game was just strange. I think he was trying too hard, and wanted to just take off on every play (probably stemmed from the high expectations of the "going to try to have the best game of my life" statements). ALOT of the drops that I saw was when he would turn his head to survey the field just as the ball was getting to him. If he would have just "looked" the ball into his hands on at least half of those passes like he normally does, he would have a better chance of scoring a TD instead of killing some drives. I'm not complaining though, I liked the level of involvement that he had. I'm just hoping that the coaching staff doesn't go away from those plays because of the nervous jitters last Sunday night. On a side note, I've not seen anything said yet this week about having the best game of his life against the Bills. So maybe going into the game without the high expectations will help settle him down a little and just let him smash into people and have fun already...and maybe score a couple of TDs while he is at it. :boxing:

Part of that was a panicky Eli Manning gunning him the ball off target on dump-offs on a cold blustery night at East Rutherford. Jacobs is far from a premier pass catcher, but he is better than what we witnessed on Sunday night.

Brandon Jacobs-RB- Giants Dec. 20 - 12:36 pm et

Brandon Jacobs was again a full participant at practice Thursday.

Jacobs was not on the Giants' team site injury report Wednesday, but did appear on the NFL's official version. Still, there's no reason to believe that he'll miss Sunday's game. Jacobs, who will likely be listed as probable Friday, should pose matchup problems for Buffalo's smallish front seven.

* Brandon Jacobs gave his fantasy owners a brief scare when he was limited in Wednesday's practice because of a hamstring injury, but put in a full workout Thursday and is absent from the Giants' injury report. Jacobs' horrible receiving skills were exposed via multiple ugly drops in Week 15 against the Redskins, but he rushed for 130 yards on 25 carries and it's noteworthy that he at least saw tons of action on passing downs even while his awful hands were on full display.

Sunday's matchup against the Bills and their undersized run defense is favorable for Jacobs, who's gotten a total of 53 touches in two games since returning to the lineup in Week 14. Barring a setback with the hamstring injury he looks like a solid mid-level RB1 option. The season finale against New England is a much tougher on-paper matchup, but it's possible that the Patriots' defensive starters won't put in a full game (although the same could be true of Jacobs).

<_<

 I noticed that several of Jacobs' drops were at least partially caused by Eli gunning the ball at him from very close quarters.

Bills' defense preparing to gang up on Giants’ Jacobs

By Rodney McKissicNEWS SPORTS REPORTER

Updated: 12/21/07 9:38 AM

The Buffalo Bills face one of the biggest running backs in the league on Sunday in the Giants’ 6-foot-4, 264- pound Brandon Jacobs. Jacobs has rushed for 349 yards and has 11 receptions for 100 yards over the last four games. Last Sunday against Washington, Jacobs ran for 130 yards on 25 carries.

“I’ve seen guys hit him in the thighs and legs and he just bounces guys off like it was nothing,” said Bills safety Donte Whitner. “We’re going to have to gang-tackle him. There have been instances where one guy has gotten him down in games, but the majority of the time you have to gang-tackle him to get him down.”

The key for the Bills is keeping Jacobs inside and away from cornerbacks Terrence McGee and Jabari Greer.

“I’m sure a lot of teams have tried doing that against them and have been successful,” said Bills defensive end Chris Kelsay. “I’m sure some have tried and not been successful. We really have to do our jobs on the edges and push him back inside to our backers and interiors.”
