Gibbs should be fired (1 Viewer)

if I was Dan Snyder, Gibbs would be a wealthy and free man with nothing to do but golf everyday. Gibbs personally lost the game to the Giants. he should be -hitcanned for his stupidity.

Skins should be 3-0, but there not, why = Joe Gibbs. what a peanut head. Was he trying to make a statement to Portis, or is he just plain stupid ?

Gibbs acted so matter of fact after the game saying he thought what he did gave them the best chance to win. If that mind set includes leaving Portis on the bench from the 1 yard line, he is an absolute idiot.

I am so urinated.

G - God I believe morons should die

I - Inexplicabily stupid

B - Bonehead thinking

B - Bewildering that he didn't have Portis in there

S - STUPID !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes, That spells GIBBS

Schmuck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Shanahan running Selvin Young on 3rd & 2 at the 4, then going for it on 4th was worse.

FYI Craig, all Gibbs did was reinforce the play calling of his OC, Saunders.

However, Gibbs being the class act that he is, he's stepping up as the head Coach & shouldering the criticism that rightfully belongs to the OC.

Without him they wouldn't have been 2-0.

They made a mistake..........way to stick by your team thru thick and thin. I'm sure when they beat Phily you were calling for him to be fired as well.

:goodposting: It is perfectly fair to criticize Gibbs. The one constant during his 3+ seasons back at the helm has been lousy clock management during the two minute drill. That said, this wasn't as bad as people are making it out to be in the play-calling sense. The big sin was having Portis on the sideline. No excuse for that.

After a 20-yard pass to Antwaan Randle El, Jason Campbell spiked the ball on first-and-goal at the 1. Coach Joe Gibbs said he called for the spike because there were no timeouts remaining, and he wanted to get in the jumbo, goal-line package. But on second down, the pass went in the flat to fullback Mike Sellers, who dropped the ball (which was thrown low and behind him) and probably wouldn't have scored anyway. With leading rusher Clinton Portis on the sideline, Ladell Betts was stopped on near-identical running plays on third and fourth downs.Gibbs said he called the final plays, taking over the job that usually belongs to assistant coach Al Saunders."We feel like either one of our backs are capable of being in there," Gibbs said. "And on that particular drive, it was Ladell who was in there."Betts was tackled for a 2-yard loss on fourth down.I'm Dan Snyder, and Gibbs is fired. :goodposting:

With Cambell at QB..they should have tried at least one bottleg,,run it or throw it to Cooley..or throw the ball away and kill the clock.

In the first place yesterday I was reading all the posts saying Portis fumbled. WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!! As the scoring showed it was later charged to Campbell.

In my wildest dreams I can't imagine having my $50 million running back on the bench in crunch time from the 1 yard line.

If I am Dan Snyder I am wodering why in hell Betts is in the game and Portis is watching. If they miss the playoff's by a game then Snyder should get rid of both Gibbs and Saunders.

I am not a Skins fan but just a football fan.

I am not convinced Al Saunders is calling the plays for this team. And I don't think he has been calling them for quite some time.

Agreed 100%

For the last 4 plays, Gibbs took over playcalling from Saunders. Gibbs is directly responsible for those 4 plays. Link

You can argue about the plays called on 2nd and 3rd down, but Gibbs' real blunder was calling for the spike here. There's no need to spike the ball with nearly a full minute left in the game. And why even spike the ball on 1st down when you're gonna throw on 2nd down? Just run a quick out-pattern on 1st down.

Everything Gibbs called on this series was beyond belief. I just don't understand it.

Right, Right......and the guy that beat him is also talked about being fired every week.........funny how's there's no posts on him supposed to be fired this morning.

The Redskins have average talent and they're record is going to reflect that.

What people fail to realize is that Betts who's a 1000 yard back himself couldn't get in from the 2 yard line. That offensive line didn't do their job against a poor defensive unit.

It's amazing how many perfect people we have in this world and we don't make any mistakes in our jobs.

They actually called that spike on first and goal from the sideline so they could get into the jumbo package? Good lord that's dumb. That tells me they don't at all trust Campbell to make make the right decision on a 1st down pass there. Either complete for the TD or throw it away to stop the clock.

It's amazing how a 9 day member is so perfect. Look at the facts dude, Gibbs blew it. Plain and simple.

You can't tell me its Al Saunders being that conservative in the 2nd half. That had Gibbs written all over it. He had a 2 TD lead and thought there was no way the Giants could come back and score 14+ on them in the 2nd half. Well, guess what.. when you are 3 and out with runs on 1st and 2nd down EVERY series, your defense is eventually going to tire of being on the field constantly.

I love Gibbs for what he has meant to the Redskins and offensive football in the past.. but the time has come for him to hopefully move back to Nascar next year. And...please take Carlos Rogers with you. TIA!

I thought that the Playcalling was excellent - the GMEN shut them out in the second half - is that Gibbs fault or poor execution on this overrated team

Craig --

There is no real polite way to ask this, but I think answering it will help put your view in perspective for me.

Did your fantasy team lose because Portis did not run the TD in?

Being a member 9 days has nothing to do with it and I've been a member a lot longer than 9 days. I've been on these boards since they were yellow. If you read my initial post in here it's not even about if he blew it or not. Where were you calling for his head when they beat Philly in an upset? I didn't see anything.I find it amazing that the Redskins are 2-1 and people actually think Gibbs should be fired. So since he's not 3-0 he doesn't keep his job.....I think that's kind of ridiculous.

No, my league doesn't do head to head games. we go total points through the Superbowl. My point is just that it was a horrible sequence of play calling. Why would Gibbs take over Saunders job at this point in the game ? If I'm Al Saunders, I,m really _issed off.

Please accept my apologies. My point is simply that the play calling on that final series was horrible. Granted, even if they would have scored it would have only tied the game. I just feel as though Gibbs personally blew that final series. Let Al Saunders do his job. If he had, the Skins probably would have scored.

This last is certainly true. There was NO reason to stop the clock, really. There was plenty of time left to try a first-down pass into either corner of the endzone. The Giants were well on their way to one of their patented end-of-game defensive collapses. (And I'm speaking as a Giant fan of thirty-five years.) The spike let Gibbs get his goal-line team on the field, but it also let the Giants have a minute to get their bearings and mentally regroup. The poor pass to Sellers gave the Giants their first inkling that "Hey! We might actually not lose this one in the last seconds, the way we always do!"). And then it was Betts and Betts, behind an offensive line that's been dinged up by injuries in the last couple of weeks. Now, if the Giants can just steal one each from the Eagles and Boys, this season won't be a total loss.

Give the Giants credit, but the 'Skins made no second half adjustments that I saw. It was all Martyball on offense (run, run, pass short (and incomplete), punt) and the defense did nothing to move Springs or Rogers inside to counter Burress in the slot. Campbell is a good enough QB to throw periodically on first down, and his greatest asset is a good deep ball with WR's who can get behind the defense and take it to the end zone from anywhere on the field. Why not use that from time to time to keep defenses honest?

I'm thinking that the game plan was the problem here. Why did they not challenge the Giant's secondary in the second half? And why not take shots into the endzone at the end. Pathetic.

First, I have to apoligize to Redskins fans......I started Campbell yesterday so I feel that I jinxed their team.

In what I think is an objective opinion......I was really unimpressed with the Washington passing game. They were going up against the worst passing defense in the NFL and Washington didn't take advantage of it.

I'm not just talking about playing calling. Even the plays they did go long, the ball was overthrown or there was some pressure on the QB where he wasn't able to throw with great accuracy.

The receivers were NOT getting open, not the kind of open you'd expect when you're up against the last place defense.

I thought their running game was OK......but you're right, the 2nd half was just horrible.

But let's not let the defense off the hook here. They couldn't stop the Giants. Washington's O was on the sideline way to much and when they came in, they were out of sync.

Do I think the play calling was bad the last series, yes. Do I think the wrong people were in the game, probably.

More than Betts being in the game, I didn't like the play calls. On top of that......the offense just didn't seem relaxed. They were pressured, rushing to the line and acting like they had to snap the ball STAT when they had plenty of time. I partially blame this on Capmbell and his inexperience.

If Redskins fans want Gibbs head on a stick....so be it. I'm just a little surprised by this as disappointing as the loss was the start of the season really isn't that bad.

This doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Part of the issue many are having is that Betts was in the game in the first place. As such, Gibbs doesn't get a pass because "Betts couldn't get the job done" when Betts being in there is a large part of what is being criticized.

But he is and was good enough to get the job done. He proved it last year. To me, it was 2 poor decisions to run the ball. From what I saw Portis would have been tackled as well.Everyone's acting like Portis would have broke the 8 tackles that would have been necessary to score. Everyone in the world expected a run and they ran the ball.A little play action there would have easily scored the way the Giants were up on the run.

"Good enough" doesn't cut it when you have "far better" on the bench. As adequate a runner a Betts is, he is not in Portis' league. While Portis MIGHT NOT have scored, he is FAR more able to create something out of nothing - heck when Portis did run that same play in for a TD, I didnt see any room, but he shook a little, got to the outside and scored. Betts can't do that.

Gibbs is a great man, but his play calling is sub par compared to most teams right now. I don't think that is debatable. And his press conference after the game didn't make me feel much better as a Skins fan. When asked about the plays from the 2 yard line, Joe kept saying "we ran our 2 best running plays" and "we are comfortable with both of our guys (RBs) back there. Well Joe, NO ONE ELSE is comfortable with Betts running near the goal line, or picking up a pass rush for that matter. I honestly believe Portis was being punished, as he was NOT hurt. If that's the case, the team has a lot of issues it needs to resolve during the next 2 weeks off if they want to make any noise this year. I am starting to hope Cower comes back next year, and takes over the entire offense.

Dis is da troof.. People on this board are nuts about Portis.Regardless.. Betts had no business being in the backfield.

This has to be fishing. EIther that, or you are just about as clueless as anyone can be about football.

What I was saying is that it should not have come to the last seconds. The Giants were defeated and deflated at halftime and came back and scored 21 points and the Deadskins zero. With Portis out there the whole time until the last series

Yeah - I am the one who is clueless

I agree with this. The entire second half infuriated me far more than the last drive by itself. I saw no adjustments on defense and a horribly conservative offense.

That isn't even REMOTELY what you said. Be careful you don't trip backpeddling like that.

Martyball=14-2Norvball= 1-2HmmmmmI can live with the spike on first down but the 2nd down pass was the big mistake. And it shows a roster problem the Skins have: no real go to reciever who can out leap a defender. Who could they have gone to? Randel El? Moss? In press coverage, they get held up. You can't throw the fade or a jump ball to them. Even Cooley isn't a Gates-type red zone target. You have two yards to go, an exhausted D-line (from pass rushing constantly for the last three game minutes) and a 6' 5" 230 lb QB? Three QB sneaks and you score. Bad play calling combined with poor execution means an embarrassing loss.

Campbell may have been credited with the fumble, but it was CLEARLY Portis's fault.
