Gibbs should be fired (1 Viewer)

Playcalling on the goalline was no worse than the rest of the second half.

Bigger share of the blame goes to Campbell's inexperience and the O-line getting pushed around by a medicore Giants DL.

Two words for Gibbs...... Mike Sellers = 1 carry , 3 yard lock , overtime.
Exactly guy is a beast.Hell, they could have run 4 QB sneaks and got in.

Horrible, horrible, horrible play calling.
Not enough time for that, but I agree on Sellers over Betts. Why spike it on first down? How about a quick pass and if it's not open you throw it away. You get probably a 30% chance at a TD and risk only 3 or 4 seconds. They need to practice the two minute drill all day, everyday this week. It has cost them so many games recently.

I'm giving Campbell a pass on the fumble earlier in the drive. I think he looked over and saw S Moss limping around and it totally threw him off. Guy made some great throws to get them within scoring distance and the play calling took it away from him. That one throw to get them near the goal line was placed perfectly and if nothing else, this game gave Campbell some great final drive experience.

Honestly the biggest thing I took from it was that the Skins were not prepared for that situation. I blame that on the coach or maybe the QB.
When you have a very young QB, the Coach HAS TO take responsibility for that.
Agreed. But this travesty gave Campbell some better experience and maybe the balls to call an audible when the coach calls in "Betts to the left again" on 4th and 2.

Al Saunders was asked why Portis wasn't in there on the last drive. He said he had no idea, you'd have to ask Coach Gibbs about that.

Yep, Al Saunders is running this offense.

If I remember correctly they had a minute left w/ 2nd and goal from the 2. They could definitely get off 3 QB sneaks in that time.

Well, there's a pattern developing in the two-minute drill in Washington:Week 1 vs. Miami- in OT, the offense drives beautifully downfield, with the running game going full force, however Gibbs opts on first down to kick a 40-yard FG instead of picking up more yardage. The attempt is good, but the decision to do it on 1st instead of 3rd down is questioned. Week 2 @ Philly- in the 2nd quarter, after a beautiful drive downfield in the final two minutes, RG Jason Fabini fresh off the bench false starts on the two-yard line; the sideline goes into vapor lock and subsequently gets a delay of game penalty. Gibbs opts to send in the FG unit, however he changes his mind after the Eagles call time out to freeze Suisham, and he sends the offense back onto the field. One more false start later, Campbell throws a beautiful TD pass to Cooley. Week 3 vs. NYG- final two-minute drive . . . you know the rest. This is just not acceptable, and it's bizarre given how much Gibbs has traditionally emphasized smart play and preparation. It's truly the greatest mystery to me of his return to coaching, and it makes me wonder if they have too many chiefs and not enough indians (no pun intended) over on the sideline.

Would love to know the context of Saunders' response. Because at face level seems like (1) lack of communication (2) that Saunders is not especially happy with the fact as he said "youll have to ask Coach" and (3) perhaps Gibbs is too involved than he should be in the micromanaging of the play calls.Curious to see how this aspect works itself out over the next couple weeks, as well.

Saunders is in the booth, so he's not on the sideline to handle substitutions. That certainly doesn't restrict him from calling plays though, especially given that they have shown they'll call all the same plays for Betts that they do with Portis. Now, Gibbs has said he was calling the plays on the last drive, but I'm still not sure whether he's just taking the blame or whether that was actually the case.

I think it was 52 seconds when they spiked it. And I'm not sure exactly where the ball was spotted. Either way, I can think of 39 different combonations of plays I would rather have seen than what they called. Interesting that Saunders had no clue why Portis was on the sideline. Another sign that there are STILL too many cooks in that damn kitchen.

Honestly, I didn't have a lot of problem with the spike given that we're dealing with a young QB here. You're on the 1 yardline, and the spike leaves you three plays to punch it in. May as well get organized and call a good play or plays with your best personnel in there . . . which was precisely the problem given that that didn't actually happen.

I would have higher expectations on that first down if we're dealing with a more experienced QB BTW.

The entire second half infuriated me far more than the last drive by itself. I saw no adjustments on defense and a horribly conservative offense.
Me too. It was like watching a sinkhole open up and slowly swallow the entire house you'd just built. But the last drive was the worst. 1st and goal on the 1, with time to run 4 plays, had just driven all the way down the field, had the momentum. Yet they looked unprepared, confused, uncertain, and panicked. And the coaches called bad plays and had the wrong people on the field, to seal the defeat. It sucked miserably.
