Givens and Stokely (1 Viewer)

Givens and Stokely. Will they ever be the same? Or for that matter, will they ever play again?

Both are recovering from severe injuries that IMO probably shelve the two for good.

Anyone have any more info about their conditions or their rehab progress?

Lots have players have come back from ACL injuries (Givens). The Titans are reporting that he may be available Week 1. Stokley (Achilles) is slated to be available for training camp. How you view their futures really revolves on how you evaluated them in the first place.

I never thought they were that good to begin with, both having benefited from playing with Manning and Brady.

Even if he recovers 100%, Givens has more upside potential in his situation, although I think Brandon Jones seems in line to be more of a go-to receiver for VY.

I know someone on this board once said that the Colts should sign Givens instead of re-signing Wayne last off-season (a Pats fan - I don't remember who). Needless to say I'm glad Polian didn't take that advice.

The talka bout Givens being done for good is way overblown. ACL injury - not a huge deal these days.

I don't think he'll ever be a solid fantasy option, but he can be a very good possession receiver for Tennessee.

Regarding Givens - this is from CBSSportsline

Earlier this week, Coach Jeff Fisher said, based on the timetable followed by other players who've had the same injury, WR David Givens has a chance to be ready for the start of the regular season, according to The Tennessean. Others in the organization aren't nearly as optimistic. Givens didn't just suffer a torn anterior cruciate ligament Nov. 12 against the Ravens. He also tore his meniscus, which had to be repaired, and he broke a bone in his knee, which required bone plugs in the break.
This is alot going on for a player that needs to seperate to have success. I think he's done. Also from CBSSportsline

WR Brandon Stokley ruptured his right Achilles' tendon on Dec. 10 at Jacksonville, and had season-ending surgery 10 days later. The injury, which occurred while he was with the Colts, almost drove him away from football. But he didn't want to wrap up his eight-year career like that and so he signed a one-year deal with Denver in the offseason. "A lot of teams were really scared of the Achilles," Stokley said. Stokley, who was expected to miss six-to-eight months after the surgery, is hoping to be ready by training camp. His goal is to play in the season opener. Stokley's not trying to rush back. He just started jogging on a treadmill. After that he'll work out on the field and then begin cutting.
Stokely is 30 years old and this is usually an injury that takes at least 2 years to heal. I think you can put a fork in him also.

Hey, if you think they are done, that's you're opinion. But . . .
Veteran David Givens would also be added to the mix once he returned from injury. Fisher said he thought Givens, who suffered a season-ending ACL injury last year, would return for the team’s preseason preparations.

"I’m not thinking otherwise," Fisher said. "That’s what we expect and that’s been the track record. Those who have suffered injuries in the middle part of the season or even the latter part of the season have been able to come back at some point in training camp. It’s coming along, it’s going well and he’s working at it. He’s probably in the toughest part of his rehab right now and he’s giving us every indication that he will push right through it."

This team report makes it sound like Stokley is being counted on to play for the Broncos pretty much all season.

As I said initially, if you considered these guys factors in the past then they may be able to do similarly from here on out. I personally did not consider either of them as being major controbutors going forward regardless of their injuries so my opinion also will not change much.

Neither of these wr's are very talented. They were a product of the systems they were in. I could not believe how much money the Titans threw at Givens.
