GLAZER: Atlanta Likely to trade up to #6 for Julio Jones (1 Viewer)

Calling the scenario "likely," Jay Glazer predicted late Thursday afternoon that the Falcons would trade up to No. 6 to draft WR Julio Jones.

Glazer confirmed previous reports by SI's Peter King and NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora that the Falcons are trying "very strongly" to move up, and now he's going a step further. Glazer believes the trade has a "very strong" chance of happening as long as Jones or A.J. Green is there when the Browns go on the clock. Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff has been aggressively pursuing an offensive playmaker as the missing piece on his contending roster.

Would make Green the #1 in Dynasty drafts hands down if he goes to ATL.

Would make the Jones/Green choice tougher if it's Jones that goes to ATL.

As the owner of the 1.2, I hope it happens.

I'd take Julio 1 or 2 (Ingram Non-PPR) if he lands in ATL.

I think AJ would be a better fit in ATL, but Julio isn't a bad consolation.

This is interesting to me. What, if anything, does it say about Roddy White if ATL thnks they are missing a needed playmaker?

Also, is the receiving pie big enough in ATL to support two stud WRs or is the pie going to grow with ATL passing more going forward if they were to land one of Green/Jones?

Doens't say anything about White. He will be top notch but no longer have as much coverage rolling his way. Green or Jones is an infinate upgrade over Jenkins.

Nothing about White. He's a stud. Jenkins and Douglas are terrible, terrible, terrible. Neither are anywhere close to starting caliber. Not sure Douglas is even a decent slot guy (something he did look like pre-injury). They need someone to keep teams from doubling White. Gonzalez looked like he was running in quicksand last year. Turner has a year (maybe two) of high level play left in him. Ryan is a rising star at QB. He needs help now (and the future)

Doesn't say anything about White just Atlanta needs another playmaker. Gonzalez is up there in age,Turner doesn't catch many balls and Jenkins is an ok WR.

So do you see Green/Jones stealing targets from White in this scenario or merely garnering attention from opposing DBs... or the ATL passing game airing it out a bit more (increasing the receiving pie)?

Targets will be taken but then given back because instead of walking off the field after a drop by Jenkins, they will keep going.

If this happens, I'd be more inclined to think you'd see a combo of Gonzalez and Jenkins stats with a slight decrease of White's stats.

 Good point.

It wouldn't affect White at all in 2011. Jones will be a rookie after all. But man this would be huge for the Falcons. Wow.

If anything it helps White even more. Like he needed it LOL. Nothing like another thread on the other side ;)

I can't see how they make this happen without trading away their whole draft.
I'm interested in what sort of package that they could offer for Heckertt to drop down that far myself but Jay Glazer is dialed in and rarely makes mistakes on breaking news. The news confirmed yesterday by Holmgren that the Browns were in discussions to trade-down.The rumors this morning that they were in discussions with the Pats caused a stir but now a Glazer Tweet on the cusp of the draft synches it for me that we can expect a deal:http://www.twitlonger.com/show/a4upt9
Jay Glazer On Thursday 28th April 2011, @Jay_Glazer said: ATL trying to move into top 7 for Green, JJones or Peterson, talking w Cards, Browns and 49ers w Browns the most likely spot. DiMitroff aggressively looking for play maker
I am curious to see what Atlanta is giving up because that is a pretty big move up the board.

As owner of 1.03 and 1.02, I agree. Prefer if the Rams traded up though.
