Is Glenn Beck chaning his tune?
Saturday, September 19
Let me say definitively, NO. He also apparently has no clue as to what has been going on in Iraq for the last six years. He claims in this video that we should go into Afghanistan, hit them hard, show them who is boss and pull right on out to the ticker tape parades. He thinks they will be so scared they wouldn't dare mess with us again if we use Glenn Beck style warfare. Kind of like terrorizing them back.
I have a few questions for him on that. What does he think took place in Iraq since the invasion? Why do you think 4,662 men and women have died in Iraq? Why do you think we stayed after foreign fighters from around the middle east came to fight us and thousands of Iraqi locals took up arms? Why did we go into the cities and throughout the country hunting down people who were setting IED's against our vehicles and troops? Are you saying our Armed Forces went in half assed when they took down the Republican Guard? That is because we did not kick their heads in hard enough, we caused thousands of men from Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and all over the middle east to come fight us in Iraq? Do you think we really stayed for some experiment to see if we could try out nation building?
For him to suggest that his idea is not what happened to the T in Iraq makes me really wonder how closely he followed or understands the war in Iraq, the one he was so in favor of fighting. His solution to stop nation building, is to do what we did in Iraq, but instead of not listen to guys like him who told us that if we left, the whole middle east would collapse and be taken over by terroists.
HELLO GLENN BECK, we stayed for the reasons you claim to support. If you don't think it was for oil, democracy, WMD's or for middle east empire building, you have to think we were sending a message to the radicals in the middle east. Did I miss where we tossed flower grenades and shot people with confetti?
That is what Iraq has been about, sadly. We showed the muslim world we would stay, fight, take thousands of casualties, spend hundreds of billions of dollars, kill thousands of civilians and dang near destroy the country. Middle east who might have wanted to start something with America, could not believe this guy Bush. Lying about WMD, going in without United Nations, then suddenly say it was for democracy after the WMD did not show up. No, just going in fighting the army Saddam had, remember "bring it on", we were staying right there, taking the fight anyone who dared take up arms and alot of civilians in the way. So how has Beck changed his opinion again?
Let me explain something to Beck and to anyone who thinks he is somehow changing his foreign policy to something more reasonable or more libertarian.
We destroyed Saddams army fast and hard, sorry it was not hard enough for Glenn. We were about to turn the country over to the interim govt rounded up by the Coalition Provisional Authority. Just what Beck is advocating we do if we roll deep into Afghanistan. But guess what, the situation on the ground would not allow us to leave like he says he wants to do now in Afghanistan. They fought back, the enemy started to hit us with guerilla warfare. Setting IED's, firing rockets onto our camps and bombing religous sites to spark chaos. They started to fight and fight hard, using tactics that we were not prepared to deal with effectively. Remember Glenn, we have been at war here in Iraq for the last 5 years, fighting the guys who were not scared.
He is advocating another long drawn out Iraq war, plain and simple, only in Afghanistan. It is the neoCon class who want to make Afghanistan the next big fight. Beck is calling for exactly that in this video. A homegrown insurgent, guerilla warfare battle, against people who hate us for their own reasons. But if we went into Afghanistan full force, guns blazzing, 150k+ troops, with the intent of slaughtering any and all Al-Queada, then just march right on out with victory declared, we might have a worse situation, right? Was that not the rational feed to the people by Beck, and the entire Republican party during the 2008 election.
Glenn Beck does not know what he believes or thinks. He has no foreign policy principles other than what comes to his mind at that moment. I posted a video of Glenn Beck being labled as a neoCon, not Libertarian. Depending on what you think a libertarian is, either he is or isn't. His policy stances are far from Libertarian, but he calls himself one, that is about it. I can't find many issues he says he supports that makes him a libertarian and not a Karl Rove Republican.
People who stand on non-interventionalist principles don't start pre emptive wars. We understand the ramifications of doing what he calls for.
Dropping guided bombs from our best war planes onto the known Al-Queada camps and positions, along with a few thousand Special Forces to go out and round up the leaders, was all that should have happened after 9/11. No Patriot Act, no Iraq War, no torture, no wiretapping millions of Americans, no need to throw habeas corpus in the dumpster.
All Americans became more vigilant. We would never let a plane smash into a building without the hijackers having to fight off every able bodied person. But in guys like Glenn Becks mind, we needed to do everyone of those things because he was scared. He was so scared a terrorist would kill him that he was willing to toss the Constitution out the window. But now, when a new president wants to pass a healthcare bill he suddenly wants to hide behind the Constitution and act as if he gives a darn that politicians aren't following it. Well, I'm not jumping on that bandwagon.
