GMA (i know) just announced Troy P. Out for season (1 Viewer)

heard on tv as I was waking up. that is a HUGE loss. But I'd like a better source than Good Morning America.

Others say sprain 3-6 that needs evaluation/MRI.

http://damox.com/pittsburgh-steelers/2009/...has-mcl-sprain/

Polamalu Has MCL Sprain

Troy Polamalu sprained his MCL in last night’s overtime win over the Titans. The injury typically keeps players on the sideline for 3-6 weeks. While this injury is not as serious as an ACL tear, further tests could determine it’s far worse than a simple MCL sprain and could sideline him for a significant part of this season. That’s all just speculation at this point, and while Polamalu will be missed on our defense, we did hold the Titans to just 10 points last night while playing over half the game without him.

i've scoured for any real info. I think GMA just misread the report, doesn't know that there are degrees of MCL sprains/tears??? For now I'd say 3-6 until MRI seems most likely, but there does seem to be a lot of "negative" buzz. Stay tuned.

Both of these "reports" are way too premature. The extent of the injury is currently unknown. I wish they would just wait until they hear the results of the MRI nefore they start speculating on whether or not he is done for the season.

Regardless the exteny of the injury, I feel terrible, as a football fan, for Troy P. as he is the best in the business! Sorry Steelers fans.

Dude was playing dirty last night. He really hates the Titans. Bet he hates them more now, huh?
WTF? How was he playing dirty? He tackled one guy (Crumpler?) with a facemask, however if you watched it, his hand appeared to get caught in the facemask. After he threw the guy down, he grabbed at his hand like it hurt because of getting caught in the cage.Maybe you should think before you post ridiculous comments?

He was absolutely playing dirty last night you did not find it odd that everytime he tackled chris johnson he was going for his knees The hit on the sideline was horrible the guy was already going out of bounds weighing 195 lbs and troy feels a need to dive into this dudes knees you dont think taht was intentional?? you are delusional

First, no disrespect, but have you ever played football? There is a difference between a players knees and his thighs. Defensive players are taught to tackle players at their legs, not their upper body. Second, did you watch the game? You say "you did not find it odd that everytime he tackled chris johnson he was going for his knees" HE TACKLED JOHNSON TWICE!!!!!!!! One time was the textbook tackle in the backfield where he took out Johnson, at the thighs for a loss-perfectly clean hit. The second time was the play where he got flagged for a late hit. Watch the replay, it wasn't a late hit. Johnson wasn't out of bounds, and wasn't going out of bounds, until Troy's hit (which was again, at his thighs) pushed his momentum out of bounds. He wasn't playing dirty, he was playing football. No helmet to helmet hits, no horse collar tackles, one facemask that appeared to be incidental.

I agree. He was playing hard, real hard, but not dirty. I personally thought the late hit call was unwarranted, I don't know how he was supposed to stop, or just assume that CJ wasn't going to cut back to the inside.

I don't think there was anything dirty about any of Polamalu's hits and the PI call was ludicrous.

Now Harrison's hit on Scaife's knee is a different story altogether.

I don't know if "playing dirty" is the best the best way to describe it, but the guy had a major face mask and late hit in a half of football. That might not be dirty, but that's a pretty aggressive pace for penalties. And yes, I have played football.

That said, he was the best player on the field last night before the injury and as a football fan I hope he's back soon.

Watch the film. The late hit was a bad call-CJ wasn't out of bounds-Troy knocked him out of bounds with a clean hit. Watch the facemask-his hand got caught in the Titan's facemask-it was incidental. The pass interference was another horrible call. He wasn't playing dirty. If you go by the penalties without re-watching the tape, you might think that, but the tape doesn't lie.

This is flat out wrong. He grasped the mask and deliberately pulled down in a twisting motion. And I'm a big fan.

This gets my nomination for post of the day. The "has no idea what he is talking about and hates the Steelers" post of the day.

A good laugh is a great way to start the day.

No he didn't. Watch the tape, he had his left hand on the guys shoulderpads, and as he was trying to tackle him, his right hand got caught in the facemask. Did it deserve a penalty? Yes-was it a deliberate, dirty play? No.

The PI was an awful call and in fact was OPI if anything. Other than that I disagree. Again, I wouldn't go as far as to call his play dirty, but the other two calls were legit personal fouls that are going to called almost every time.

I love watching Troy P. play. That INT he had was insane. Such a sweet play. I hope he isn't out for the year. Harrison on the other hand is a little b!t@h for that dirty hit he put on Scaife.

I am a Packer fan. No horse in this race. To me, Troy looked like he was playing dirty last night. On two seperate occasions he went after knees, plus the late hit out of bounds that was low. John Lennon said it best. "Instant Karma's gonna get you."

I am not a big fan of him, but i don't think he was playing dirty. Aggressive yes...dirty no...I do believe CJ was out of bounds already, but not sure it warrented a penalty as I think he had already began his motion to tackle. He seemed to be going toward the knees/thighs in the game, but i don't think it was with intent to harm, just him determining that was the best method to bring the ball carrier down on those plays.

The Facemask was the correct call, it wasn't incidental.

The PI was a questionable call...i'd have to see it again. I believe the ref was saying that Troy cut off the route and then basically just stopped forcing the WR to run into him...I believe this is illegal, but also believe the call could have been just as easily a no-call.

That said, it's sad to see him get hurt, he's a good player, that Pick he made was outstanding, and it was painful to watch the replay of him getting hurt. As much as I dislike the Steeler's, I'm hoping that it's only a 3-6 week thing and not a season ending injury.

Can we please stay on topic.

I know it may be early but any more word on Troy?

I don't want to open an injury thread and start reading about if he was playing dirty or not. Take it to the game thread.

Thanks in advance!

All reports I've heard have said MCL sprain-3-6 weeks.

I wouldn't call it a dirty hit but he was already out of bounds. It was close enough that the flag could not have been thrown, but it wasn't unjustifiable for it to be thrown.

Disagree somewhat. He was clearly out of bounds...BUT.....It almost seemed like Troy had put his head down a bit early, and was commited to the dive long before he actually launched and hit Johnson.Borderline call, probably the right call. Sloppy play by Troy...but I have a real hard time calling it "dirty".

Rodney Harrison, the only dirty Safety in the NFL, retired this off season; everyone else plays hard/tough football.

you guys must now call all players who hit someone out of bounds and all players who grab a facemask dirty players.

In case yous forgot, its football a violent sport played by big, fast, mean men. #### happens. Dont watch the game if a facemask or questionable hit out of bounds makes you upset. Since when it tackling someone low considered bad? Thats what DBs are taught.

This is just another example of the ####ification of America. Only on an internet chat board would this even be discussed. I doubt Jeff Fischer, Crumpler, CJohnson and the rest of the Titans would even know what you all are talking about.

At this point if you told me that Fitz is out for the season after losing a monkey knife fight I wouldn't even blink.

re: the late hit out of bounds --

1) johnson makes his last step in bounds

2) polamalu dives to make the tackle

3) polamalu makes contact with johnson's leg before johnson's foot hits out of bounds (johnson is in the air 1-2 yards out of bounds when polamalu hits him)

should not have been a penalty, imo

really I thought it was an ok hit too. Looked like CJ was trying to turn it back upfield and not just taking a line OOB.

I like Troy but, Troy plays Steeler football and Steeler football is dirty knee hunting football and its ironic that he went down to a knee injury.

The flag out of bounds was a tough call, it looked as if he stepped on the white right at the same time Troy hit him.

speaking of Instant Karma, it was on Pittsburgh Steeler websites that the "Bernard Pollard Fan Club" t-shirts were being sold last year... :lmao: Let's hope it's just a sprain, and Troy is back in a few weeks.

From a Colts fan's perspective, not last night nor ever have I felt that T.P. plays dirty. He is a tough and aggressive SOB, but nothing dirty about his play.

FWIW: The local ESPN radio affiliate is still calling it an MCL sprain and that he is expected to miss 3-6 weeks.

We should know more later today or tomorrow...

Bump up your Steelers Wr's. They will be losing a lot more often and should have to throw more.
...says the man who's team won zero games last year. Our cast off is the best defensive player you got now. Troy has missed games almost every year. I think the Steelers are fine. Tyrone Carter plays a lot. Timmons will be back. LeBeau has 10 days to prepare them for the Bears.in the next 5 weeks, we play Cincy, Detriot and Cleveland(along with Chi and SD). For some reason I think we'll be okay.

My 12 yr old son commented that everytime Troy went to make a tackle, he led with his head. Almost a spearing type of tackle, which would be called immediately if it was done on a QB. I'm not sure "Dirty" covers it, but he was clearly walking the thin line between aggressive and too aggressive play.

The PF call was bogus, especially since the ball looked to be un-catchable too. The other two calls were legit, he grabbed the face mask and didn't let go and the action helped him with making the tackle...that is for sure a 15 yarder. The hit out of bounds didn't seem like much at first, from the first angle. When they played the reply with the angle covering the sideline (north - south), you could clearly see that he was out of bounds and it was a very late hit considering he was several steps into the white area. You don't need to have played to understand that.

The INT was awesome and he was flying around all over the place. His intent of play was questionable, but regardless of which team you root for...that is what you want from your safeties. Safeties are supposed to straddle that thin line every play and every game. Just as the aggression can help, it can also hurt...which last night was a prime example.

Just watch Troy P, he is easily the best defensive player in the league. Glad I don't have Fitz, the Curse is REAL!

Unbelievable some of you are calling a Troy P a dirty player just cause he chooses to tackle low which is actually great technique. Coaches always tell you to go low on shifty players because if you're focused up top it's easy to be juked out your cleats. Also, Troy P has tackled that way his ENTIRE career. I remember the playoff game in Denver a few year back where he took out legs the same way. Its nothing dirty about it. It's football. What Brett Favre did to Eugene Wilson is dirty. Major difference.

It also wouldn't surprise me to see DeShea Townsend at safety a bit. He had been getting reps at safety in training camp so I could see them moving Towsend to safety and put Ratcliffe in the dime.

Troy was absolutely playing dirty last night, and I have no horse in this race.

Poor fella was whiny about CJ putting the ball in his general direction last year.
