GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (9 Viewers)

Our kids had a snow day Monday.  Pretty much a whiteout at 6am when they called it.  First snow day in 3-4 years.  Without checking I'd estimate there have been 0.0 rain days.

Like ice on the roads so travel was dangerous?  Or just too unpleasant for kids to go outside?

what was the temp?
It was frigid for here, but would have been a not so bad winter day by Minneapolis or Chicago standards.

Overnight in the high teens and daytime in the upper 20s.

Pretty sure the late start was due to ice on the roadways. People here (including my wife) freak out when anything freezes.

I've been having back spasms all day.  I have nothing else to be responsible for for the rest of the night.

Whiskey is a proper Rx right?
I started getting those about 15 years ago. Muscles would lock up so hard I could barely move. I went to the doctor and he gave me all of these stretching exercises to do to prevent the spasms. Of course, I only did them after my back would lock up because I'm an idiot. Anyway, got all of my stretching literature and this: "Oh, and booze helps"

I'm stretching right now...for more booze.

So my dad went in for a heart catheterization last Monday, they figured he was going to need a stent.  Turns out he had 2 major blockages.  Complete shock.  He's been healthy and active all his life.  He had open heart surgery Tuesday.  Seeing  him coming out of sedation being intubated was extremely difficult for me.  He's getting better every day, I was there today when he took his first walk.  He should be out of ICU tomorrow.

My dad was running marathons up until maybe 10 years ago when his knee started bothering  him, and he needed open heart surgery at 67.  I'm a fat piece of ####, so this has me concerned.

This and an "FU!" video in the span of 8 minutes.

Best of luck to your dad, of course.

So my older brother got a golden handshake from the company he worked for last summer.  It wasn't a huge deal but it was a couple of years early.  He was talking about finding some other source of income for the next few years.  He mentioned something a couple of months ago about e-commerce.

Yesterday he posts on FB about his new venture.  Now he's a sharp dude...especially when it comes to personal finance.  But this is just nuts.  He built his own website along with a "store" that will sell shirts, hats, decals etc.

Whats it about?  Well...basically...you're going to die so you better get right with jeebus.  I mean that's it.  He created a logo and everything.

Hell, it might be the WWJD of 2017.  What do I know.

We flood every other month here in Houston (like where people die and stuff) and we've maybe had one day where school starts two hours late.

Hoping for a speedy recovery for your dad @shuke.  My dad died at 44 (I was 17 at the time) and had all kinds of warning signs. He did himself in.  I'm reaching his age this year and the one thing I can say is that I appreciate the life I have every day even when those days suck.  I do all the things my dad didn't do.  Sounds like your dad is an active guy and a great role model for you.  We can't escape fate, but we can make the best of the life we have and enrich the lives of others every day.

Moar fu video fodder

Nowhere near as serious, but my dad had an aneurysm in his right interior iliac artery repaired on Wednesday. It's an outpatient procedure where they stick a wire in your thigh and coil it up in the defect. He's 80, but he came through it like a champ. BOL to shukedad.

Hey can you log in and get your 401k statement.

Why?

For our meeting with our financial dude

I don't know the website.

Who is your plan?

I don't know

You don't check?

Why would I check? Like you check yours...

 um, yeah every so often.

Once a year a guy comes in and talks about some boring stuff and that's it.

I'll get it Monday!

:scared:

I've got a great idea for him for a branding campaign.  The blurb is "Talk To The Hand!!!!" and the graphic is just a giant palm facing outward, but it has a bleeding nail hole through the center.

Guaranteed top seller to his target demo.  Hell, the graphic alone would probably better than whatever he's currently using as an overall business logo too.  Tell him he's welcome to use the idea if I get a 10% cut of all "TTTH" related merch.

YIC,

Who had Dak Prescott To win rookie of the year at 150 - 1?

This guy.

Too bad I was so cheap i only threw $35 on it.

Just spent the better part of the day at the memorial service for that kid from my step-son's boy scout troop who hung himself. It was rough.

I only knew the kid a little bit, but apparently my impressions were accurate. He was a wonderful person. And it seems nobody really has a clue why he did this.
