GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (13 Viewers)

To be fair to Armenianbuttlogic, and to quote Brooke Shields (why not?) - "if you die, you've lost a very important part of your life."

It is a sad commentary on our world that a convicted war criminal drank poison in open court and committed suicide today and it's not even an above-the fold (or bolded, depending on site setup) headline on most news sites.
It's intriguing, but fairly unimportant to me.  Guy was a scumbag, so no loss there.  Interesting choice to make, quite hardcore.

I really try to be open minded and not let politics affect who I hang out with or how I treat people. But I have to say, between the Trump stuff and all the sexual harassment/assault stuff that has come out, my list of people that I would prefer to not be around IRL has grown much more than I ever thought it would. I don't think there's anyone in the GMTAN that I wouldn't cornhole with (although there's probably some of you that wouldn't with me I'm sure), but some of the stuff around here lately is pretty cringey.

I really need to get out of that sexual harassment thread. I'm trying to ask questions of one guy, but it seems like he's happy in his position of thinking the men are being wronged, so I run out of ideas.

The rest of the article pretty much says you should sell it all now.
That's a very poorly written article and the author is incredibly sloppy in his research.  For example:

With the price of cobalt hitting $30 a pound, investors have poured into shares of companies that mine or own rights to the metal. Canada’s Cobalt27 Capital Corp., which believes there is already a deficit in supply which will worsen, is up 162% this year

Cobalt 27 IPOd in June this year at $9 CDN.  This very second, it's $12.45 CDN.  It's peak price was yesterday at $13.75.  So it's up 38% right now and 52% at its peak.  What he fails to mention is that KBLT used Arak Resources as a shell company to do their IPO.  Had this writer spent just a cursory amount of time researching this, he wouldn't have made this blatant miscalculation.

And that's just one example of his erroneous work.  This is really bad writing.

6yo Floppinha- if she makes the editor's cut- will be on Comedy Central's The President Show Christmas special tonight! 10e/9c
btw- the whole thing is improv... I guess trump/santa asked floppinha what she wanted for christmas- and unprompted, she says for trump to not be president (I'm sure my wife had nothing to do with that). trump then says- oh yeah, well then this guy (pointing at spence/elf) will be president instead. the two of them then get into some kind of wrestling match. fin scene.

Our school has some deal where if you read everyday at home you get a coupon for a free pizza Hut personal pizza (which sucks because then I have to eat it too and half the time the dumb coupon expires and depending on who the manager is they will or won't accept it)

Anyway it's on the honor system and of course we always forget to fill it in until the last day of the month.  My 3rd grader is a smart kid and reads most days but occasionally skips a few I'm sure.  He refuses to just color in the damn thing so he can get a free pizza.  I don't know whether to be proud of his extreme honesty or be worried that he's that damn stringent on something harmless like getting a free pizza.

He's not bowing to the man for some ####ty, little, under-sized personal pan pizza.

The school my wife used to teach at partook in this program when she first started. A few years in, a few parents complained that the school was encouraging an unhealthy diet. So the school stopped doing it but allowed individual teachers to continue it if they wanted. My wife was the only one that continued it. She did have one parent complain but my wife pointed out that 1) it was totally voluntary and 2) Pizza Hut would redeem the coupon for a free salad as well.

People are ridiculous.

way back in HS, my friend and i  went to the mall so he could buy a pair of jeans

guy is very..... particular..... he picks out a pair of jeans, goes to the checkout

girl at the register: if you also buy a belt, you will get the belt & jeans together for less than the price of just the jeans

friend: but i don't want a belt

girl: it will save you money :)

friend: but i don't need a new belt

girl: it will save you like $10. it's a promo we're doing. i'll just add the belt so get you the discount.

friend: that doesn't make any sense. i don't want the belt.

girl:   but it's a free belt and you save $10

friend: i don't want the ####### belt. i don't need a ####### belt. put the belt back.

girl: :hot:  (rings up the pants and belt together so he gets the discount)

friend: :hot: (leaves the belt and walks out)

That's the Michael crighton theory in action.

"Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward—reversing cause and effect. I call these the "wet streets cause rain" stories. Paper's full of them.

In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know."

Can anybody provide a recommendation for a good bottle (approx. value of $15) to take to a White Elephant Liquor Exchange party?
