GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (6 Viewers)

I went to visit my mother yesterday. We weren't able to get together for Christmas, so yesterday was our gift exchange. She got me a small cast iron skillet - my request in lieu of her trying to buy me clothes ( :wall:  ) - and a couple of "boutique" snack mixes (if she can't dress me, she's damned sure going to feed me). She's going on a cruise in a couple of weeks, so I got her a gift certificate for the cruise line she's on and a good bourbon from a local micro-distillery.

It was a good day. Mom's going to be 75 this year and looks amazing. She rescued a mutt a year or two ago, after my father died, and they are so funny together.

I am going to make this for dinner tonight:

Asian Wings

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup chopped green onion/scallions
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Asian chili sauce (such as Siracha)
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 or 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 pounds chicken wings, cut in 2 pieces at joint
Change these measurements to your taste.  I never measure, but in general I usually use less chili sauce and more soy sauce.

Directions:

  • Heat oven to 450 degrees.
  • Combine green onion, honey, soy sauce, chili sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, ginger and garlic in large bowl and let it sit for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally so the ingredients can come together.
  • Set aside about 1/3 of the sauce before you put the chicken in it so you can cook it separately and brush or pour it onto the wings after they are cooked.
  • Add wings; toss to coat. Place wings with sauce in single layer in prepared baking pan. Bake, turning occasionally, 25 minutes (or about 13 minutes on each side) or until chicken is evenly browned.
  • Increase oven temperature to broil. Broil wings, turning them once, for 8-10 minutes or until sauce is thick enough to coat back of spoon. Remove wings to platter; spoon sauce over wings.
  • While cooking the wings, simmer the sauce that was set aside until it thickens to use as additional glaze on the wings.

After a couple of recent visits, I've really grown to love Minneapolis/St Paul. I can;t help but feel for them when it comes to the awfulness its about to experience with those two fan bases descending upon it.

Grease your lightpoles, Twin Cities. Not a euphemism.

A complete destruction. The eagles looked extremely physical, maybe the Vikings hadn't played anyone that was their match physically. I don't know, but I expected a lot closer game

Same here.  I figured it would have come down to a FG at the end.

ran into good parent friend at school drop off this morning- hadn't seen him in a while. their two youngest are the same age and good buddies with our kids- lots of time together with their family with the kids and without. I throw out the usual- how's it hanging, how was the weekend comment... and he grimly looks back with a "bad". japanese wife is done. wants out. walked with him for a bit to get the scoop, and I got caught in wanting to take a side (hers) but did my best to hold back.

dunno why I'm writing about this... just felt like a gut-punch to hear about our friends on the verge of divorce. after riding a high this weekend with the kids (floppinho's zeppelin show was pretty great, and his auditions apparently went really well too), #### got real when I wasn't expecting it.

tl;dr- don't ask your friends how it's going unless you actually want to hear how it's going.

I'd like to say that I don't have any real problem with being surrounded by 60-year-old overweight dancing lesbians for a whole night, I just wish someone would warn me before I sign on for a whole evening of that. Also, how was everyone else's Saturday?

Is this a factor in the divorce?

in a roundabout way, yes.

he's your typical finance/trader guy from long island, but who moved to Japan for work. met a great japanese woman who was looking to be more than the standard japanese woman (in japan- demure, background system of support)... got married, moved back to NYC, had kids, great loft off of Union Sq. but she's continued to expand her horizons and be more than what's expected by going back to school and work and it's created conflict. seems like the women's spring awakening after trump, weinstein et al combined with a bunch of peers recently divorced have coincided with her discontent and inspire her to want more/different. but the undercurrent seems to be her chaffing against the stereotype of a japanese woman she doesn't want to be (and sounds like he does want her to be).

That's what you get for not buying American.
