local news website is live broadcasting a murder trial. victim's boyfriend was finishing up his testimony earlier. guy is probably middle 30s. seems like a typical local. likes to drink, likes to party, works construction... likes to keep up appearances of being a clean cut, good guy.

prosecutor asked him if he smoked weed the night before his gf's body was found

his response was cracking me up: "uhh, you know, uh, i may have uh possibly you know.. maybe... been passed a... you know... a... i'm not sure what it's called.. what they call it... a device... a pipe.... or a bowl.... or some sort of thing.... or whatever.. a pen... a vape pen, i guess... and i may have.. uhh.. or may not have, i don't recall, have taken... i'm not sure what they call it... a puff, or a smoke, or.... uhh... maybe .... a hit of what i didn't know at the time was possibly marijuana."

:lmao: dude. you're 35 or so.. you're on trial.. just say "yeah, i was smoking weed".  it's the least of your worries right now.

That reminds me of Michael Irvin saying something about pot and going "was it one of those - what do you call them? - joints?...or something like that"

Right now it's 53 in the Northwest, same for Oildale.  Slightly chillier in the Northeast checking in at 52.  The high today will be right around 60.  Lows tonight in the upper 30s.  And now back to Alyssa and her googly eyes to tell us all about this weekend's 4th annual Jerk-a-Thon for prostate cancer awareness.  Alyssa?

I've been wondering what Vin Scully was doing in retirement.

THAT'S HOW THEY GET YOU!!!

Awesome. Wife had to get bloodwork today after urine tests and an ultrasound the other day because her doctor is concerned about renal disease. MRI also showed she has a stress fracture in her knee (I didn't even know that was a thing).

Bonus: Daughter has a 102 fever and is feeling terrible.

Just looked up Oildale .  I am so sorry man.

Bipolar Girl just called. She's at the hospital, and so drunk as to be almost unintelligible. Told her to call me when she sobers up.

:kicksrock:

Hang in there!

Update: two subsequent calls from Bipolar Girl, cut her off at the knees both times. Just got a call from a doctor in the ER, trying to fill in the clinical/psychological picture. I told him what I could.

Happy Friday, everybody!

Howdy.

I've been a bit distracted of late and haven't been logging a lot of FFA time. Still settling into the house and working on things, still looking for a job, etc..
good to hear from you- hope the new swanky house is at least a source of joy for you while the jobhunt continues.

I have a line on a job that sounds like an absolutely perfect fit for me. They seem quite interested, even they don't have an official position they are trying to fill. The division manager keeps talking about how they sometimes make "opportunistic hires" when the right candidate comes along and has heavily implied that I fit that profile. But I don't know what it pays. And I have to wait until she gets back from NYC and another manager gets back from Tokyo to interview formally.

sounds great- genuinely hope it works out for you, and sooner than later.

I've been trying to get back in with architecture firms rather than interiors firms that do architecture. I went through a bunch of rounds of interviews with one firm that was a great fit work and personality-wise... but they wanted to offer almost half of what I was making. if things keep going on (heading into my third month with no work), I'll have to take anything.

currently waiting on imminent word from another firm that is also seemingly right in my wheelhouse after a couple of great interviews with the partners. didn't even balk too much at my salary (apparently interior designers pitiful pay for architect employees is somehow higher than architects' pay for architect employees). when I met with them the second time on Wednesday, they made it sound like I'd be hearing from them the next (yesterday) morning. crickets. nailbiting.

I didn't realize you had lost your job. Man, I'm sorry.  :sadbanana:

Wait. Wtf? I didn’t realize you were in mothballs. Let’s get on the phone.

Yeesh.  Tough situation, man.  But maybe the best thing for her is to remove her safety net.

Knee doctor said stress fracture is actually in the femur right below the knee. 6 weeks on crutches and in a brace for Mrs. GD.

Daughter GD confirmed flu. Looking like a delightful weekend.

...and if you don't stop jerking off, you'll never get rid of that tennis elbow.

I've got my own crap going on but, for all that is good, I'm wishing you a break. Keep venting here if it helps, GD.

dang, the other guy (the prime suspect) in this trial was found to have his DNA mixed with the victim's on some piece of evidence... that makes it "in excess of 1:500 trillion" likelihood of a match that could only be produced if he and the victim shared this piece of evidence.

that seems high
