I tried to look for my whole discussion about my deaf receptionist to copy and paste into the weird coworker thread. Forgot the old GMTAN thread was nuked.

There's a blinking light. And she has gargantuan hearing aids.

It's fun to leave my door open and listen to her answer the phone. She has to find out who someone is before transferring the person to us, so she asks for a spelling of the name. And can't hear it.

"What was the name? What? Spell that for me? S - N - Five? J? Q? Oh, "I"! P? D? C? B as in bomb? Oh, "T as in Tom!" H. Okay, Snith. Oh, Smith! Hi, Mr. Smith, good to talk to you again."

It helps force the extra co2 bubbles up the side of the can so that the excess gas has already collected safely at the top.

Anything in Florida is pretty terrible. I think I like the Gulf Coast some, and maybe Tampa, but the rest of that state is horrendous. I mean people from Michigan and Maryland talk about it like it is Shangri-La; it's a humid, bug-infested, crazy person ####hole. It's like Fresno exploded in a 65k land area. I like the manatees and the gators, but you can keep the rest of it.

My uncle - who has more money than God - bought a winter house in Naples when he retired. He'd spend summers in Maryland and the rest of the year in Florida. Big into golf and fishing. About a year ago, he sold both places and bought a house in.............Ocala? WTF? I haven't been everywhere in the US, but I've been alottawheres and that is the ugliest geography I've come across to date (not to mention the redneck-to-normal-person ratio being astounding)."Let's see......I wanna retire in FLA......... BUT not near its only redeeming geographical feature (the water) AND in the northern end where winter can be felt".

My wife's ex-inlaws (i.e., her kids' grandparents) bought a place in Okeechobee a couple years ago, and of course we're welcome to visit. So we once over Christmas break. ####-all to do in Okeechobee, in case you're wondering.

Nailed it. Going down and hanging on the dock was pretty great. Driving in to Antioch to buy groceries, or home from work in Berkeley was the suck. Lesson learned. Made Hayward look like something special. Never should have left Brisbane, but I was living on a boat and when the wife finally followed me out west... no more Travis McGee for me.

 
Anyone else ever hear of "rolling coal"? Apparently redneck inbreds tamper with their truck's exhaust system to intentionally spew as much black exhaust as possible.

Saw a truck at our local pizza place with a "South Jersey Coal Roller" sticker on the back window. WTF?

I'm no hippy dippy enviro guy in any way, but you have to be a special kind of ignorant to go out of your way to spew pollution like that.

took daughter to the hospital to visit today. after she had said over and over that she wasn't worried and didn't want to talk about it, on the way home she just kept asking, "Is mom going to be ok?" such a relief to be able to tell her yes.
