GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (18 Viewers)

Morning, k4. How was thy trip?
Fantastic. Best one we've had in a long while, I think.

What's new with you?
Not a lot.

I appear to have lost/misplaced my passport. I don't even want to think about what I'll have to go through to rectify that.

I'm also planning a campaign of shock and awe against Comcast. They are ripping my mom off something awful - after a $30/mo increase last year, they're raising her bill ANOTHER $40/mo this year. She lives in a huge 55-and-older community and, I think, they are the only provider allowed there (checking on this, though). I know I can get her on an antenna and she'll get all of her locals and can set up streaming options. The problem is the internet (&, to a lesser extent, her land line). If Satan's cable company is the only game in town and she goes a la carte with web/phone, they're going to try to stick it to her. If I can get her away from having a land line, that'll help.

Surprisingly, I don't think getting a new passport is all that difficult.

Sorry to hear about your mom; hope you can get it worked out. Comcast is the ####### worst.

What infuriates me is that most of the thousands of older folks (almost all on fixed incomes) living in that community will just pay without question (like my mom did last year). I'm going to have to spearhead this for her because she isn't good at bucking the system. I'm not naturally, either, but every so often I get enough self-righteous courage to want to wreck ####. Intellectually, I know I won't really make a dent in Comcast in any meaningful way. But a nice, fat Bronx Cheer in their general direction will do me fine.

I'm gonna do a "destroy the house" clean-sweep before I start the process of getting another.

$6-a-bottle-Andre champagne Mimosas on the menu right now.

It's 75 degrees here today, which is about 30 degrees above normal for this time of year. Feels weird to have the windows open in December.

I guess there's a reckoning coming, though, and it'll be 2 in a couple of weeks.

If you really want to destroy the house, use Everclear or Bacardi 151. Andre is too hard to light.

Spent much of the day with the boys Christmas shopping with a trip to a live Nativity coming up soon. Thanks to Bloody Marys and Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale, I've been in a pretty good mood all day.

Fairly certain that my indifference to all things Christmas is going to be my wife's breaking point.
It took me over 20 years but my wife is coming around. A lot of it has to do with slowly poisoning my sons with my ambivalance.

I may have gone too far though. Beerkid bought this and swears he's wearing it Xmas Eve when we go out to dinner with my family. http://rockyouruglychristmassweater.com/birthday-boy-jesus-ugly-sweaters/

It will not go over well with the majority of my family. I've got about 2 weeks to convince that, while it is hilarious, my 80 year old mom (who is paying for everything), and my born again brother and his wife will not appreciate it.

Is your insomnia chronic, k4?
Oh yeah. For about 25 years.

Sorry your Ravens play our Seahawks today.
It's gonna be ugly. O/U on Schaub pick-6s is 1.5. I'm flying the over. I can not remember the last time the Ravens were a double-digit underdog at home. I'll give Baltimore this, though - they'll play hard. But if I were Harbaugh, I wouldn't play any of the remaining 4 good players left that aren't on IR.

No (legal or not) fixes for the insomnia?

Nope, have tried everything over the years. Best I can do is that a heavy dose of melatonin can get me about three hours.

Jeez. That sucks, my friend.

I have a sort of reverse-insomnia in that I have no problem falling asleep, but can't STAY asleep. After about 3 hours, I'll start stirring and - if I don't drop back off immediately - the wheels start turning and sleep becomes just a concept dreamed up by a science fiction writer.
