I'd buy this, but that's just me.

Or this. I suspect you are a purist when it comes to matters as important as smoking meats, but I like the convenience of having an electric unit in addition to a real wood burning smoker pit.

That is more sight than a fellow like me would need. Now just this past week I was missing my electronic smoker. Generally I like to handle it the old fashioned way, but there are times when I want to smoke something and I don't have the ability to be around to tend the thing through the entire process. My old one, gone now for around 4 years, had a loading system that would allow 8 hours untended. Though the results were not quite as good as my current set up, the convenience had me using it somewhat more often, and the results were more than satisfactory. (My previous one was a Bradley model.)

All in all a solid suggestion.

I have an awesome barrel smoker that has fallen into disrepair. I need to remove a bunch of rust and repaint it. I also have an electric smoker that I use quite frequently, due to the convenience that you cite. Doing real BBQ is fun, but also time consuming. I like being able to put something in the electric smoker and just add a few more wood pellets/chips every few hours.

I have this very model. It's okay. Great convenience and heat consistency but the smoke tray is far too small meaning that you don't get as good a smoke ring as you can't build up the smoke density you need and you have to fill it up with chips about once every 2 hours to get fresh smoke. Great for large quantity shorter smokes, but a bit of a PITA on overnights.

The Bradley I use to own had an wood disk autoloader for 8 hours worth of time, but it required proprietary wood chip disks to work, and those disks were pricey.

I remember. I ate some delicious ribs that came out of it once.

 
Housing market here blows ###. We are working on making an offer on a house. We were prepared for the fact that the house was going to go well above list to the tune of $30k or so. We were prepared for there to be a lot of action. We were not prepared that prior to the offer review date, 5 people would schedule pre-inspections so as to write their offers with a waiver to forgo inspection objection. The Realtor is saying we can write our offer to only be accept/reject as opposed to nitpicking on repairs and price reductions but it seems that if you have two equal offers, the inspection waiver wins. From my point of view, if this is what happens on a good house here, this is the game you have to play and will just as likely happen on the next one down the line if we don't player on this one. So, basically I'm considering spending $350 for a 15% chance of overpaying on a house by $30,000. Neat

My ribs always taste a little "off' to me. The texture is good, the smoke ring fine, but the very outermost layer always has a slightly oily flavor, like a residue from the smoke. None of my other meats get that, just the ribs.

I'll take suggestions on what I might be doing wrong. I have speculated that I do not have enough movement of the smoke allowing some sort of condensation of it onto the meat surface

That is tough. Where are you looking/making offers?

Unfortunately I don't think the hot housing market has gotten me back to where it was when I bought. But then again, not many people have the skill to top tick a market the way I did.

That would be my guess, but I am not an expert.

I have found that my ribs have been significantly improved by smoking them in my electric for several hours and then moving them onto my Big Green Egg for the last hour or so. I will have the Egg set up for direct cooking but over a fairly low heat, with a few wood chips in with the charcoal.

I don't know if that will fix what ails your ribs, but it surely improved mine.

 
Lost my uncle this weekend. Heart attack Friday, kidneys failed Sunday. There were 10 kids in my parents families combined. Everyone is now gone except my father and my favorite uncle (Fred) on mom's side.

I wasn't close with Uncle Eugene but he hosted Thanksgiving a half dozen times growing up. He taught my brother and I how to shoot a rifle. Blue collar guy - farmer & Oldsmobile line worker. Hard ###, didn't say much.

Flying to Michigan Tuesday afternoon and coming back Wednesday. AGTTF

ETA: Eugene was the biggest diehard Lions ever. He was ALWAYS optimistic in August and miserable by December. So I guess I owe that to him.

On the positive, at least you're getting a great rate (unless paying cash)...

I'm very curious to see what happens to the housing market over the next 2-3 years as rates possibly rise.

True. The rate is literally half of the rate when I bought my first house 13 years ago.

We did luck out that the inspector my realtor called and uses regularly was actually heading to that property when he called him. We'll get the report for a very reduced price while sacrificing being able to be there during the inspection.

I just called to make an appointment with my new mechanic since my last one decided to try and #### me. I haven't decided if I should call them out or not. Such ####### bull####. Anyhow, the guy I talked to last week remembered everything about the quote because

I'm looking at buying my first post-divorce house. Found a house I liked and it had three offers on it the second day it was on the market. Aargh.

But I'm hoping to sell the old house yesterday, once the remodel is done on the new house. If this were a game of baseball, we're in the 3rd inning.

Just found out my house I bought in Oct has moisture inside the vaulted ceilings and black mold. Gotta tear out drywall, insulation and roof off about 35% of the house. No way in hell former owners didn't know this. There was water leaking out of the recessed lights when the temps rose a couple weeks ago. Gotta let my tenants out of the lease 2 months early. Insurance will cover a bit of it but I'm probably out of pocket 10k.
