Tanner, what the hell is going on in BField???

A 23-year-old man has reportedly been arrested after the release of a surveillance video that shows a young boy being slapped in the face and falling to the ground in a Bakersfield grocery store.

Justin Whittington, 23, of Bakersfield, was taken into custody by police Thursday night and questioned about the incident in the video, KERO-TV reported.

Whittington was booked on suspicion of assault on a child, a felony, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. His bail was set at $1,000,000.

Police were able to quickly locate the suspect after it was posted and shared online Thursday, officials told KERO.

The child was not seriously injured in the incident, which occurred at Vest Market in the 1800 block of Chester Avenue.

The video shows him running through the aisles of the store. The man runs after the boy, slaps him, then picks him up off the ground.

The child is holding his face and apparently crying as a woman takes his hand and leads him out of the market.
Oof. Terrible.

Vest Market (used to be Vest Drugs) is located about a block from the main muni-bus transfer station. I don't even like driving down that block. I know a guy that got scabies just from looking at it on Google maps.

I am not in favor of assault on children (or at least on children you don't know), but a million dollar bail seems a little high in this case, no?

You hit a kid in the face like that you get the death penalty in my world of justice.

Okay, I don't disagree that slapping some random kid is awful, but in the actual world this sounds quite high.

My mom would have needed bill gates money.

BTW There's a 90% that scrotebag is a resident of the fine community of Oildale. I'd venture to guess that he's going to have a little bit of trouble bailing out.

Well, that's going to be the most...interesting..."potluck" for someone, like, ever.

Hedgehog's on the menu.

I got the inside path on a t shirt company that could use a designer....
It's a shame I don't specialize in "Hey-that-giant-vag-with-teeth-was-really-an-accident-and-wasn't-supposed-to-be-a-vag-with-teeth" motifs. I'd probably get hired on the spot.
Maybe you and that strange Annoying fellow could start some sort of weird art-house bar thingee where Homer tends bar.
Hell, worse ideas have probably succeeded.

haven't slept in 5 days.
As really bad things go, not sleeping is one of the really-est.
also just opposed two summary judgments, wrote a complaint against an insurance company, have a mediation next week that determines whether I have to go to trial in june, and my kid's on spring break starting today and I can't take time off to spend time with her so she's going camping with a friend for week.

oh, and I'm sick now too.

Feel like you have the flu?

I did that once. 5 days without sleep, parts of 3 days of it which included a cross-country drive from Cali to Pennsylvania. By the time I hit Indianapolis, I can recall looking down and seeing every fiber in my jeans with stark clarity. Like "everything is so....significant!" type clarity. Probably should've pulled over at that point, but I was 20 something and an idiot. Don't remember much about the rest of the drive, but I'm quite sure I had at least one full-on conversation with myself.

Managed to make it in one piece, went out with friends that night without crashing, then dive-bombed into oblivion for about 28 hours straight. Went to bed Sunday night, woke up Tuesday morning. Within a day or so the flu-like symptoms had started. Felt like I had been beaten with a lead pipe.

I was hoping I'd just suddenly own a house or two.

I don't know how people do this. Well, actually, I do know....but man. Even with assistance, I need my beauty ugly rest.
IB's dashingly handsome with or without rest. Of course, he couldn't speak coherently at times. But I'm sure it had nothing to do with the sleep deprivation.

yes...flulike symptoms. I think my body's crashing from the stress and lack of sleep. I'm working from home today, and if I can just make it through a conference call in an hour and a half I can call it a week and talk my daughter into renting a movie or something.

I just ordered HBO because the 24 year old is coming to my house for dinner and Game of Thrones Sunday night.

That sucks. I got fired once, a few years back, and it was an absolutely awful feeling. Good luck man.
Thanks(to everyone for the well wishes).

Now that the drugs have worn off I'm more exasperated than anything. I didn't get let go because of anything I did or didn't do. I got let go because of other people's inability to do their job, and some dishonesty to boot, which led to lack of profit. So, now the company gets to do its second round of cutbacks since January. Guess who'll still have a job in a month though?

I've said for at least ten years that "working for The Man" is a fool's errand. A partner and I have been trying to make a go of it on the side with an LLC for the past 5 years, in hopes we could work for ourselves 100%. I still have that on my plate, which helps soften the blow of this a bit, but it isn't near enough work to be self-sustaining yet.

Starting to think I should just go into hock and become a slum lord, or something. Those guys seem to make money hand over fist.

In the meantime, if anyone is in the market for a devastatingly handsome 3D animator and modeler/graphic and interactive designer/mograph/branding/illustrator-y type guy with a load of experience...
Get mad, drink hard, party with good friends (work and non-work).

Relax, energize and then get mad again about using this as a wake up call and opportunity to improve yourself and the long term overall for you and your family.

Start contacting everyone you know and can ask for assistance/leads in your job search.

Let me know if you need a friendly ear.

So you can, like, draw and stuff? How's your sketchpad drawing skills? Can you sketchpad better than Tre? He's pretty good.
Unbelievably good

Pretty decent advice. Thanks for the offer too.

Already started doing the bolded within minutes of getting "the talk." Not the first time this has happened, sadly. Used to work in game development where layoffs where common. Being "used to it" doesn't make it suck less though.

Looking at it more as an opportunity(or trying to). Was stagnating a bit anyway.

Insurance companies are the worst. Other than mine which is the best.

I've had a great week other than maybe not taking the wife to a place of infidelity which was a suboptimal idea.
