So, what do we know about Reno, NV? I'll start....

- It's in the high desert

- It has casinos

- It's, like, an hour from Tahoe

That's all I've got. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Phone interview with a company based there this afternoon. Trying to determine if the locale alone is a non-starter. I'm not finding much "bad" about it in my research over the past 24 hours....but I'm also not finding anything that's wowing me either.

One of the counties in Nevada where prostitution is illegal, but close to some brothels.

I kind of like it. The casinos have much friendlier rakes and it doesn't feel so much like they're trying to extract your entire bankroll within an hour of arrival. The truckee river through downtown is kind of cool and there's an Amtrak station for easy get aways. I really like Johnny Asuaga's Golden Nugget in Sparks for a single destination casino, good sports book and lots of table games.

No way I'd consider living there, tho. Closest decent living areas are Truckee and Incline Village, but while those drives are spectacularly beautiful, they would be hellish on a regular basis. They do have relatively new sprawling suburbs, not unlike Vegas, Dallas, are any other metropolitan area if you don't mind that lifestyle, theres decent gaming in town and gorgeous get aways within an hour.

The Donner Party could have hung out in Reno a couple months rather than go through the whole blizzard/cannibalism thing. Just sayin.

Apparently you can shoot people just for the visual thrill of it.
Well, sure, that went without saying. I'll put it in the "pros" column though. Thanks for reminding.

The is a large, poor population there and those areas are depressing and seedy. But most metropolitan areas have similar areas. If you want prostitutes or really really seedy and depressing its just a short drive to Carson City.
Thanks. More informative than most stuff I've found so far.

In regard to the bolded...I'm currently living in the "Homicide Capitol of the US, 2011-203!! Yay! We Did It!!"(not sure if we got bumped this past year or not), so that part of it would probably be old hat. "Want to not get shot? Don't go to the 'hood to buy drugs. You should be good."

Reno is a pretty decent place to live. Not all that exciting to visit, unless you're going to Tahoe.

Some good people there. Downtown sucks for the most part, but seems like there are some nice areas surrounding the city.

It's a second banana city in a second banana state. So they eternally have a chip on their shoulder and are always trying a little too hard. You may find their grit and determination inspiring or you may find their tepid achievements depressing.

I once saw a "dancer" get hit by the "bouncer" outside a seedy gentleman's establishment there. Let's just say GM wouldn't be walking there.

“He left his empty vodka bottles all over the kitchen… never picked up his empty cocaine baggies and left the toilet seat down when he peed. He messed up my apartment to the point where I just couldn’t get it clean. Before Hap started doing drugs and acting weird he was my BFF (best friend forever). We’d go dancing, play on the children’s park equipment, both huge fans of doom metal – listened to it for hours with the lights turned off

At least Mr Happy had a fun run.

Are we talking the total quantity crown or the per capita award?
Don't recall, but I'd assume per capita.

Man, this is sounding more and more like where I'm at now(Orlando), but with less humidity and an actual winter. A one story 'burgh that wants to be a real city in the worst possible way, but just...never gets what it takes. Nearly bereft of any kind of culture because population is too transient, local leadership still too backward, etc, etc.

Reno may have less uninsured Puerto Rican drivers though, I guess. May. (Who am I kidding? San Juan probably has less than here).

Oh...Orlando. I think I'd rather live in Reno than Orlando.

Of course, I'd probably rather live in Lagos or Kabul than Orlando.

Come on...Orlando's the happiest place on earth.

My in laws moved there for business. They couldn't leave fast enough. It's a truly vile hideous place. It's ugly, the casinos are literally falling apart and many are closed down. And that's the biggest economic draw the place has which tells me the direction the place is headed. Meth is rampant. As stated, the proximity to Tahoe is the only thing it has going for it.

When it comes to the wimmens, I'm not a huge fan of extra skinny or asiaends, but for

some reason, I love me some Kobi Tai

It's been years since I've been there- but it always reminded me of all the worst parts of Atlantic City, but without the beach or bigger named casinos. basically pawn shops, gambling/drug addicts and... proximity to Tahoe.

Maybe just use the word "deflated" often and casually, but not in any reference to football. "Man, sorry to hear about your hamster dying, Sally....you must be really deflated over it."
