I had a round transistor radio when I was a kid. Probably the best present my parents ever got me.
I had one of those "slap top" 8 track players when I was in HS, too
The kind that looked like a TNT detonator?
Yep. It would go to the next channel when you hit it.

For one Speech Class assignment in HS, we had to give an album review. A chick did Michael Jackson's Off The Wall with one of these players and it was mesmerizing. You could tell she practiced way more than anyone else. She kept changing songs faster and faster as her presentation went on, slapping the hell out of that machine. Sort of like hip hop DJs do would do with scratching. She got an A+ and the only one, IIRC

(I did the Doobie Brothers' Greatest Hits on vinyl :bag: )
Did you ever have one of these bad boys?

No, but I would have loved one of them back then. The round one I had didn't, IIRC, even have an FM dial. Appears this one didn't either. Which was fine - 7 year olds didn't need no stinking FM old-people radio channels.

So for the last 10 years or so I've had this vision. It's something I've joked with my sons about.

We always make fun of the geeks that camp out for the new releases of vidya games and crappy LOTR/Harry Potter/Superhero movies. Especially the flaming dorks that wear costumes and crap.

This coming Friday may be the day I finally put my plan into action.

I really want to go down to where all of the Star Wars folks are lined up for the new flick.

I want to go dressed like this or this. Just walk around and wave to people. No talking or anything. Maybe get on the evening news.

What do you think?

If you get on the news, refuse to say anything but "beep boop beep boop"

Yeah you do that.

I was thinking he should say "Danger, Will Robinson!" to everyone.

Nothing so cool here. Got a Sears red transistor radio (slightly bigger than a pack of cigarettes) and was so pumped to be able to hide it under my pillow and listen to "Cincinnati Reds on Radio" after I went to bed. Thinking of it now, it looked like something from an early 1950s Sears catalogue.

no gold dial - plastic red dial

Oh and am radio played a lot of very cool 60s hits - its where I really started to appreciate music.

I did do this about 5 years ago. Golden Tee is the best video game of all time imo.

Hardest part was building the cabinet out of MDF, but it came out pretty nice. Then it was just a matter of sourcing all the materials -- the guts are similar to basic PC builds which I've done many times, and then you just need the controls, video screen, etc.

Took about 8 months, but in the end it was an exercise in frustration as I blew about $1200 and never could get the ####### thing to work. One night I was drinking a lot and couldn't deal with it anymore and smashed it into a million pieces in the garage, then tried to set it on fire. That ended up being one of the final straws in my marriage, but my new wife is better so it worked out well in the end.
:lmao:

That dude can go on some amusing sideways tangents, then other times it's like he's on quaaludes. It's Nipsey, isn't it?

####. Looks like I might have to put my dog Bailey down very soon. She's 14, this last month or so she has gone downhill fast. Not eating much, just walking from bed to bed to sleep, doesn't seem to recognize us much. This morning she came downstairs and her back legs gave out in the kitchen. I carried her to her bed so she could lay down. The kids came home from school and apparently she still couldn't get up. My son had to carry her outside to go to the bathroom.

I'm going to be an absolute wreck, let alone the kids.
So sorry to hear this Foos.

Losing a dog sucks so much that I didn't get another dog after my last dog died. Just not sure it's worth it. Sorry for your loss Foos. :sadbanana:
Exactly why, 14 years later, I still don't have another one.

Also sorry for your loss, Foos. But it hurts so much because there's very little as amazing as the love between a dog and human. I couldn't go without having one for long anymore, even after losing dogs in the past.

Wife roped me into going to our historical society Christmas thing (greenfield village...I think it's nationally acclaimed or something)

Anyway they have beer so

I also got yelled at because they had a ww2 Red Cross house thing and I asked her if she thought the nurses had to give a lot of handjobs

Well, my wife just got notice that she had officially been approved for Disability Retirement. Good timing since December 1st was when her sick time ran out and she got her last paycheck. Pretty surreal that she's late 30s and officially forced to retire.
What's all involved with that?

My wife has a lot of physical problems and we're thinking of trying to get her on that.

Did she at least answer the question?

She struck me in the chest and asked if that's all I was thinking about the whole time

They put a big tree in the middle of the living room and said "don't touch." Didn't work in the Garden of Eden and it's not gonna work here

Tell her that a guy you know with a History degree that says they did.

Had to fill out a long application, submit all relevant medical records, get checked by the state's doctor, be approved by her Board of Ed and be approved by the State.

They have to determine that you're totally and permanently disabled and can no longer do your job even with accommodations.
