GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (11 Viewers)

Today I was reminding one of my classes about the do's and don'ts of our graduation ceremony.  I talked to the about the dress code. I mentioned that they may not wear hats during the ceremony (the wear gowns but not caps...every year 3 or 4 guys show up wearing ball caps).

Me:. If you wear a hat we will confiscate it.  And it will be up to you to come and get it after the ceremony.  Just don't even bring one.

Goofball kid who always asks stupid questions: Can we wear a hat on the way to graduation?

Me:. No.  There will be school officials following you from the time you leave the house.  Seriously, Ethan...what do you think?

Other kid:. Ethan?  You're not even graduating.  What do you care?

Entire class:. Ooooooo roasted/destroyed/wrecked!

I love fennel. Slice thinly on a madolin, drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice and season with S&P.  So good on a summer day.

When I was 12 my brother got a coffee table book about the Porsche 911.  Almost immediately I was entranced by that car, the speed, the sound of the engine. For some reason the appearance has always (inexplicably) reminded me of a Great White shark.

So back then I told myself I would buy one for my 40th birthday. And as I grew up it became less of a kid's joke a more of an actual goal.  Maybe I would be in a position to buy a sports car at 40 and, owing to wanting one for so long, act like it wasn't a midlife crisis but the realization of a long time goal.

My Uber black this morning was a Tesla with 13,000 miles on it.  Black on black with the moonroof and "big" engine.

I have zero desire to own a 911 now. None.  The Tesla is far and away the nicest automobile I've ever been in. It's the automotive version of a cold beer, a hot woman, and the Vols winning the bcs championship.
Yeah, my boss got one a few weeks ago.  It's unlike anything I've ever driven, ridden in or even seen.  Really amazing vehicle.

However, there's things about it that take getting used to.  My boss went through a car wash and was instructed to put the car in neutral.  He tried for 5 minutes and flailed around like a guy trying to install Netflix on a toaster.  Finally, he got it in there by accident.  He went home and Googled it, which offered no more clarity on the matter.  Finally his son told him that he has to half click up or down on the toggle switch to get there.  Something with polarity of the battery or somesuch.

I think for my 40th we're getting a minivan.
One year in and zero regrets on this purchase.  Wife loves it.  Very very nice being able to fully open both side doors and the trunk with a tap of a button on your keychain.  Being able to put all the seats down and use it as a hauler is unbelievably useful.   Don't listen to the naysayers, these things are awesome.

Both my parents still drive minivans. Been TeamMinivan for a while now.

Damn.  I keep looking at third-row SUV options and it's tough to get anything new for less than $40k.  The Honda Oddysey, meanwhile can be had for less than $30k.

That was the challenge for us.  Well, there were a few challenges, including my wife's refusal to drive a foreign vehicle (Detroit girl; dad works for GM (not me); betrayal to drive a foreign car I guess) but I wasn't spending $40K + for a behemoth gas guzzler.  Found a fully loaded 2014 with 28K miles for $19K.  Fits all our needs perfectly.

i bought one for the wife when we had our 4th kid back in 09.    Whenever we go up to the mountains or any long trip I always take it, instead of my suburban.   I figure if we get trapped in a deadly snowstorm or stranded somewhere we have about 3 weeks worth of food in the carpet  to live off of.

GM, I have a question. Where did the "me eat all the poop" avatar come from.
Many many moons ago when side board cliques were becoming all the rage, LABS decided it would be funny to have a random draw and choose the avatar the person you drew for the new FBG design.  Happy Schnapps (oh where have you gone?) drew me, found the avatar for me and said to me - "GM, I just made you a star".  And the rest is history.
