I have a friend who decided to hike to Royal Basin today (20 miles roundtrip plus some truly awful forest roads to get there).  She's just a little insane.  You might like her.  Come to think of it, she just told me last night that she started dating a new guy and when I wanted to know about him said, "He's a drummer.  Amazing in bed."  That's it.  Didn't even get his name.

I was getting together with some guy's parents, some guy I liked but not anyone I've actually ever met IRL.  They lived on this HUGE estate.  I was in this short white dress, which I was happy I'd happened to bring along because no one had told me I'd need to dress up but as it turned out it was a party where all the women were in white and I would have been so embarrassed if I didn't have it.  The guy and I had to walk for miles and miles over this gigantic lawn to get to the mansion, and then we wound through hallways, turned corners, through more hallways, where there were little vendors set up in kiosks - it was like a maze - and finally got to where his mom was, and she looked me over a bit dismissively and said to him, "Where is that woman with my necklace?"  It turned out that "that woman" was my mom, and she and his mom had been walking through all these hallways earlier and stopped at a jewelry kiosk, and my mom helped his pick out some jewels for a necklace that was going to be made for her to wear to the big party.  His mom was in a hurry to get home to prepare for the party, so my mom volunteered to wait and bring the necklace when it was ready.  I went back through the maze of hallways to find my mom, a little irritated that she hadn't been more efficient, that his mom had had to wait, but feeling horrified that his mom had been so arrogant and refused to refer to her by name.  It was like she was the hired help.  I found my mom, who had just gotten the necklace, and I can still picture the necklace in my head - I can give you a description if necessary for the interpretation - but I think the dream ended then.

So much going on here.  I'm going to do  this no shtick because i get it in a way that i couldn't explain to more than a few people i've met, you included.  I would send this to you privately but you asked publicly so i hope this is ok.  

First pf all, the short white dress.  Not a wedding or a pure virgin snow thing.  This is a short dress - which has its own connotations.  And the connotation of it being white isn't that you are going to a traditional black tie affair, but that you are expected to be and look like what someone else thinks you should and you would be mortified to do otherwise.  So here you are, this confident, successful, emotionally attractive person with a long list of non furley psychophants on an internet message board who have judged you by the content of your character and not the niceness of your skin, and you're worried about your dress and your necklace and your mother being good enough for you to ever really fit in.  

You feel like "new money", and that you are looked down upon by old money.  

But you still want to be "old poor".  You like regular people better, even though you sometimes deep down feel like you're obviously better than them.  Which you should, if you don't, but you do, and you are.

But that doesn't matter to you.   It won't matter how successful you get you will always compare yourself with the people who were born into it.  And whether you compare yourself favorably or unfavorably, which differs depending on the day or stage of drunken self-honesty, it bothers you that they compare you unfavorably because no matter how much you convince yourself otherwise you care what they think and you know they don't care what you think.

For what it's worth i've spent a lot of time with a lot of thems too and not enough time with a precious few yous and i would take one you over a hundred thems and so would anyone who has ever realy mattered. I think most* of us** would.

Plus other than a bassist, if there's anyone I can compete with it's a ####### drummer.  You don't even need two arms to do that.

WTF is going on in this place?  A dude checks out for about 24 hours and all of a sudden Krista loves Furley, GM hates cos, dogs and cats are ####### living together and, apparently, the Pacific Northwest is going to get blown to Oz?

Having another scotch.  Hopefully the world here tips back on its axis by the time I get back.

Beerkid was just telling me that the other night he was hanging out with his GF and her friend.  The girls were drinking this brand of wine.

 He tells them "I bet I know how much it cost...a s**tload of dimes!"

 
Anyone read American Gods? Started it yesterday and its pretty interesting. And now I read its a tv series next spring? That should be very interesting.

My cousin that lives in Tumwater says the storm was "a let down".  But then again she's a wackadoo Trumper so I don't trust her.
