GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (23 Viewers)

It can rain pretty hard up here, but it's not like the rain storms of the south or midwest.  Average rainfall in Portland is less than many other US cities, which seems strange but it's true.  Typical winter day will be cloudy, damp and cool with periodic showers.  But, rarely will we dip below 32 here and snow is very uncommon until you get up into the mountains, which are pretty close.  I dig it, but the winter days can be dark and depressing for many.  Summers, though....summers are the nuts.  Long, warm days that don't get dark until nearly 10pm, usually in the 70s to 80s with an occasional trip to triple digits.  It's the summers that will keep me here until the day I die.

When I lived in "big" city and walked everywhere, I had a nice LL Bean rain jacket with a hood.  Umbrellas just get turned inside-out by the wind and poke people in the eye.  Not to mention only fairies use them.
they make windproof umbrellas these days actually

So......the twins apparently have foot and mouth disease, which is highly contagious and there ain't much to do for it other than keep them hydrated and full of Motrin.  Wife was supposed to go out of town for the night with her friends in Hood River for wine tasting and fun.  She says she will cancel, but I'm telling her to go.  She needs to go for her sanity because I know how much it sucks to be home with them all day long and I also know how much it sucks to be married to me.  Part of keeping them hydrated is nursing, which I can't do apparently, even though my massive moobs look like they are full of milk.  We've never used formula and the mere suggestion of buying it sends my wife into some weird craze, so I shut up because even though I'm dumb, I've learned which battles to wage in this marriage.  All this is to say I hope you all have a better weekend than I will have because the way it's shaping up ain't real good.
gm... fwiw- I can't remember umbrella-chat, but I did remember this thread on coxsackie. haven't reread it to see if there was anything useful

The thing I was most looking forward to today was picking Hazel up from her school at 3:30.  I've never picked her up from her new school and she was really excited today that I was going to do that so she could introduce me to her friends.  Even if I can't convince my wife to go out of town I'm going to try and convince her to let me pick Hazel up from school.  Smiles are in short supply these days and this is one I could really use.
I hope you don't get a punch in the nads instead.

just got a call from the school nurse. somehow, 5yo floppinha and 9yo floppinho collided heads on the playground. 5yo went to the nurse for the third time this year, 9yo has only been to the nurse with scarlet fever in kindergarten (his last school was like something out of a dickens novel).

I guess I'm just happy they're actually playing together... or close enough to bonk heads. but I'll be hearing about this all weekend. 5yo is in a stage where tears are plentiful and injustices abound... I WANTED TO OPEN THE DOOR, NOT HIM (tears). I WANT YOU TO HEAR MY PIANO PIECE FIRST, NOT HIM (tears). its' a stage, right? right?
Definitely a stage. Unfortunately for you, she's a girl, so this is the GOOD stage.

Maybe you could offer to take her place on the overnight wine tasting.

So you'll be picking him up and taking him to the island? Thanks
Don't sweat it, man - I'll figure it out. I'll rent a car or use that Udder ride-service-thing. Or look for a magic-haired Vespa on the highway. Or take a cab to Hobby from GHWB.

The layovers are crazy to fly into Hobby for me - or, the times are all ####ed up.

and shoes, right? who needs 'em?!
I've worn nothing but Nike shoes the last 15 years or so which is easy to do since they are based here.  But on Saturday I went to the Adidas employee store where everything is half off and bought my first pair of Adidas running shoes.  These are pretty great and for a guy with fat feet, I'm hoping I don't burst out of them the way I do on Nikes after a few months of use.  Might be a game changer for me.

I always buy New Balance since they are made in the USA and all.  Last couple of pair have sucked though.  Going to try some Adidas now since Murica is going to be great again and they really don't need my business now.

gotta pump and store milk for times like this.  although, with twins, there may not be much 'extra'.  my wife and her glorious knockers produced enough milk for a small country

Thanks.  I've spent the last nine days slipping into the more accessible online havens of the new nationalist movement.  Ignorance of these areas is dangerous, as we all just learned.  I don't know how active I'll be here, but I desperately needed to vent a bit.
you're one of the good ones my friend.  stick around.

Nice of you to say.

I try not to discuss politics in this thread, but if you're at all interested in what exists down the rabbit hole and haven't looked into it yourself, I'm discussing in other threads.
I'm interested, I guess... but please provide direct links- I don't have the stomach to wade through the rest.

I'm good.  i rarely go in to other threads.  i'll poke my head in, just to see the crazy, but don't usually engage.  living in CA i have enough people losing their minds right here at home.  good friends of mine were protesting at city hall a few days ago.

My cousin is in his second year of law school and has already been offered a well paying job with the firm he is interning at.  I was told that he has helped win two cases already.  The head of the firm told him he has never offered a job to somebody that hasn't even graduated at but wanted to lock him down now.   Great kid, funny as hell, really proud and happy for him.

I reiterate my claim that MSP is the nicest airport in the US.

Just had the second-best airport sushi I've ever had, at one of these joints with an iPad at every seat.

Caveat: have only been in Delta concourses.

Yeah, we'll figure it out.

Annnnnd a good-sized mouse just popped out from under the banquette, ran over my foot, and then disappeared again.

Recalibration of sushi rankings pending.

I could do a full ranking of best airport meals (not just sushi) but furley might get pissed and I don't want to upset our detente.

That sounds really good, though.
lol

best airport food i ever had was Ku-va in Miami

so good we ate it on the layover out and again on the way back in

I am a staunch supporter of over the top for toilet paper. I hate when my wife puts it the other way. She must not care either way because she does it both ways. I, however, now see a reason for that terrible behind method; when a 2 year old goes to the roll and spins it as fast as he can, if it is the over method then the whole roll is on the floor and if it is behind it just spins.

My wife says she doesn't care but somehow it's always under if she changes it

And yeah my kids loved to unroll it
