GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (11 Viewers)

Ug.  This just sounds stupid as hell.

I hate Perfect Attendance awards for the same reason.  They encourage kids to come to school even when they're sick and/or contagious.  A few years ago I had this girl show up to school the day before Xmas break.  She looked and sounded like death warmed over.  I spent the first week of the break on the couch, sick as hell.
the kid going to harvard at 12 gets a "good luck".  the 12 year old with perfect attendance gets a huge trophy .  it's all about $$ and is a complete ####### joke.

To be fair, it's basically controlled choice with 10% of the criteria being attendance with you getting the right score as long as you don't miss 10 days.  The bigger issue is the state tests which are the end all, be all.  Schools are more upset with absences since it sets back their test prep.

oh and little sammyinho is playing bookie on Friday, so take that NYC DOE.

(and yes I noticed the typo...Steve jobs had a dirty dirty mind apparently)
in CA it's only about attendance.  no kid in school, no money.

proninja is inundated with family and friends visiting him, so he authorized me to give an official GMTAN update, though I'm sure he'll be in with more details and better descriptions of the medical stuff when he can.

Everything is going very well!  You might recall that, in conjunction with his first surgery, he had a shunt put in to take fluid from his brain to his abdomen, as kind of a fail-safe in the event the remaining portion of the cyst in his brain continued to block the fluid from draining naturally.

As it turns out, the shunt can not only take fluid from the brain to the abdomen but can take gut bacteria and yucky things from the abdomen up to the brain, which is what happened and caused an infection.  The second surgery was to remove the shunt, and the doctors have been monitoring to see if the fluid is draining without the shunt such that they won't have to put one back in.  It appears that this is occurring and that he won't have to get a new shunt.

With this great news, he could be released from the hospital as early as tomorrow. :excited:
Awesome!  Thank you for the update!

Here, they all get a base amount that is then supplemented by various different metrics.  Pure attendance isn't one, but there are other quirks like what percentage get free meals.  Even then most PTAs try raising $1 million plus a year.  The entire NYC school system is both fantastic (for the "talented") and one huge cluster####.

Just to show you, Trump International (Columbus Circle) is on 60th and Central Park West.  Two blocks over, there is/was a persistently dangerous elementary school that was basically failing because no one with any money wanted to send there kids there (shocking I know) since it included a large public housing development.  It took the school board 7 years to maybe come up with a solution and they may have made it worse.

not what I've been told... our principal let us know that 3 days out trumps 9 days for ms applications. but he could be lying to us- or misappropriating the truth to ensure he gets maximum attendance.

also- from what I understand, some of the top schools are shifting or have already shifted away from the standardized test- prioritizing their own test. so lil' skippy has take a bunch of tests, one for each school. and of course the people with money are getting their kids test-prepped.

I think the worst thing is that you have to priortize/rank the schools in your application... and the chances of getting into one of the top schools if it isn't ranked first is practically null.

the whole thing is completely nuts (and takes energy to not get sucked into... wife is already deep down the rabbit hole).

my daughter did this midweek.  mix in some explosive ####s.  causing the first serious butthole pain she's ever had.  freaking her out to no end.  absolute panic on her end(pun intended).  36 hours later, fine.
glad she's doing better.

oddly enough, mine hasn't hit the can in days other than to vomit. now that I think about it, we had her sit to go and that's when the vomiting started. I think she's now equated can to vomit, so I don't blame her for trying to ride it out. at some point in the middle of the night on Sat, she was standing in our kitchen projectile puking-- looked up at me and said "I... I can't do this". even though she's doing better, we kept her home today. #1 son went in with a slight fever, but apparently happy and wanting to go to school.

tl;dr I may have my own brain malady soon.

Some of you may remember Ken, my drunk disabled vet neighbor. Well, hegone. Disappeared over Thanksgiving weekend. His apartment is being renovated, and we share an air duct. So I'm getting a heady mixture of paint, carpet glue and who knows what else. I can't air the place out because it's colder than a pimp's heart out there. In fact, my heater is bringing in fresh load of carcinogens on the regular. Getting a third arm or something like that would be cool, but I think I'm going to have to settle for a splitting headache. And I still have plenty of work to do.

Wife got our 3 year old haircut today.  Showed her a picture of Oakland Raiders owner mark Davis and asked if that's what she used for reference

Pretty stoked about having a SWA companion pass for AngryWife next year. Feel like I've finally made the bigtime. Planing a few swingers vacations to celebrate.

So for the most part, my co-workers are boring people  who have nothing to talk about other than work.

Today is our holiday "party" (which is basically just pizza at lunch time in one of the conference rooms) and then someone decided to organize an office happy hour after work. (which we can't even leave early for. It doesn't start until 5)

So basically, in the spirit of the Holidays, I'm working an 11 hour day with no lunch break.

Our boss is buying lunch at a good restaurant, and a handful of us are taking a half-day PTO and organizing our own happy our instead of going back to work.

Honestly, it would be nice if just once I had a team of pretty girls performing a cheer routine to my masturbation.  Would be encouraging and a nice change up from 'stuck in the garbage disposal' porn.
