And so that is what we have done here. The real names were taken from this year's version of InsideLacrosse.com's indispensable All-Name Team; I used both the men's and women's teams. A few unbelievably fantastic names were left out of the quiz because they appeared in last year's version of this. I mention this only because it would be malpractice not to use the name "Brewster Warble"—real, and spectacular—for any other reason than I had done so previously. It is, like so many of these names, more beautiful and more perfect than anything I could have created. It is, as you will see, not remotely alone in that. Good luck.

Looks like the thermocouple is going out on the water heater. It's supposed to detect if the pilot goes out and shut off the gas flow.  Instead it's just shutting off the gas flow every couple of days so I get a nice cold shower in the morning.

Anywho, found some online sites about how easy it is to replace a thermocouple, EXCEPT we have a lucky model that was made for about 3 years with left-handed threads on the connection (after which there was a class-action lawsuit). And apparently it's pretty much impossible to find a replacement part with the left-handed threads. Neat.

So instead of a $10 part with a quick-ish fix, I'm dropping about $40 on a "tuneup kit" that replaces the whole pilot/sensor assembly, and of course nobody keeps it in stock so I get to wait a few days for shipping.

At least it still works for a day or 2 after re-lighting, so we're not completely out of hot water.  Still kinda sucks having to go check it all the time.

Seems like you could get a local pipe shop to make you a female reverse to male regular pipe extension to screw on and use as an adapter. I'd think under $10

Just buy the whole burner replacement kit. $75 bucks or so. It's easier than replacing just the thermocoupler

to be fair, the whole conversation boiled down to the word "nipple."   just a bunch of nonsense before that.

To be fair, someone mentioned "a local pipe shop" at least once too.

Of course, right after that was when the nipple got dropped.  I just assumed it's some kind of code for gay plumber/HVAC pron.

Ordered this although I think it may still need to thread into the gas control thingy, which could be wrong-threaded. Supposedly these kits come with a left/right adapter though.

 
Huh. Turns out brussel sprouts are really good. Thought I hated them. And weirdly enough, I'm not sure that I've ever even had them before now that I think about it. Can't believe I've been missing out all this time.

I had the same revelation a couple of years ago.  Hated them when I was a kid, but it's because they weren't prepared correctly.  A sear on them is essential.  I've had them with all kinds of sauces, bacon, pork belly, etc.. and all awesome.

ETA:  I had these in Center City Philly.  So good.

I prepared it pretty simply: sauteed in olive oil, salt, pepper and a dash of basalmic vinegar. Looking forward to trying some other preparations now too. They seem like they'd stand up to pretty heavy seasoning. I have a new Chile Mex seasoning that seems like it could be a good match.

I'm in the same boat.  Just discovered them. I think dry/hot cooking techniques (roast, pan-fry) give you much better results than boiling or steaming, which is where you can get the stinky cabbage character.

Made this the other night :thumbup:

Make sure you use teh Googles and youtube to help you with installation. Teh youtubes is a God send.

No. Brussel sprouts taste like Satan's cinammon starfish after a grueling 10k and night of grain alcohol mixed with several "4th meals". They should be abolished with mosquitoes and polio

Frozen are absolutely horrible.  But fresh are my go-to vegetable when grilling.

 
Tomorrow I meet with my lawyer to file my first ever lawsuit.  Can't remember if I told you guys when I get hit in March.  Car was less than 2 years old and had over $11k in damage.  Other driver's insurance offered a very small settlement on my medical claim, which I was fine with, but he denied any offer for diminished value on my car.  

I feel a little sleazy, but when I told the agent that I'd have to hire a lawyer if he didn't make me any offer, he said, "You do that".

What the hell insurance is that agent from?  You mean they didn't just pay to have it it fixed for the $11K - what did they offer?

Doesn't your insurance company "take over" in this kind of instance?

Note:  It's pretty clear that I am naive about this kind of stuff.  Been lucky with these kind of situations.
