Isn't the Caymus Conundrum a little pricey compared to the others being posted?  I was made fun of for posting a $15 wine, and I'd swear that one is over $20.

:lmao:

Hey, I just clicked on the Malbec you posted, and that is the one we had at our Super Bowl party five(?) years ago, the party where I had the marching band at halftime.  It was recommended by Michael Hughes, the wine expert who's now working for Cooper Mountain and whom I tried to introduce you to.
Waaaaait a minute....You did what with the who at halftime?

How tired were you when the second half started?

Yes, I've been meaning to get out there, but Rite Aid is as far as I can travel these days.  Cooper Mountain is one of our favorites. :)

The Kirkland brand Willamette Valley Pinot Noir from Costco isn't bad, either.  Think it's about $15.

Wine chat >>>>>>>>> plumbing chat
Only issue is, I guess, seasonal because they've been out for months now.  Mrs. SLB was already buying it by the case so it's going to be scary to see the bill once it gets back in stock,

Despite the hint of patchouli and more than hint of B.O. when we walked in the door, I really liked Cooper Mountain when we were out there.  Mind you, that was a decade ago.

$17.98 at our local place.  And sometimes it's on special.

Trust me...when my wife starts looking at wines over $15 she knows she's going to have to work off the extra cost in trade.

I like riesling.

There. I said it.
There's nothing wrong with a nice Dry Riesling, particularly some of the German Kabinetts (which can be off-dry) and Trockens.  I love those.  And a semi-sweet Riesling can go really well with spicy sushi, Thai and Chinese.  The Kung Fu Girl Riesling should be on this list.

Hey GB, what kinds of things are you looking to do during this weekend (the PG-rated stuff, I mean)?
:) We are pretty mellow.  Good food, good drink, take walks (beach or otherwise), movies or theater?  We like to see new stuff.  I had one friend suggest Catalina, and another Coronado in San Diego.  Those are pretty far away, but we could probably talk ourselves into a 4th night if we went that far.

Last week a kid committed suicide at the high school that my son and step-son go to. He hung himself on school grounds (I think it was near the football field) during school hours. The kid was described only as "a former student".

Later in the week I found out the deceased was a kid who was in my step-son's Boy Scout Troop. He had gotten his Eagle a year ago right now. He had a troubled family life and he wasn't a great student, but he was a very personable kid and he was dedicated and organized enough to become an Eagle scout. Our family knew him very well.

My wife and I are still so shaken up by this. It is truly heart-breaking that he felt so hopeless and unhappy that taking his life somehow made sense to him. He wasn't even 19 yet.

:(

West Coast dudes and dudette (Hi K4!),

I need to be a less terrible husband and take my lovely and super long-suffering wife on a long weekend away in the next 3 months...willing to fly within reason if necessary.  San Diego?  Vancouver?  Victoria?  Seattle?  Super at a loss...done PDX, done Seattle a LONG time ago and the traffic is butt-rape bad. Did San Diego with our son, which means Zoo and LegoLand.  Frisco? I don't know.  HALP!  Did Victoria 17 years ago...literally.  Worth a return?
I heard there's water in the Kern.

Damn.  Sorry, GB.   That's awful.

Just brutal.

I'd skip Catalina.  It is basically an island that looks like a lot of other places On the California coast.  I mean it's a decent place for a weekend getaway but I wouldn't recommend it to an out-of-stater.

Santa Barbara >>>>> Catalina

:goodposting:   I find both of those options (Catalina and Coronado) dreadfully boring, but I'm probably not the greatest person to give advice on this as I don't like sitting around on a beach.  Santa Barbara has a lot to do and is lovely.

I agree.   Once you've had brunch at the Hotel Del and gone to the beach, you're done.   Catalina is fun for a weekend, but there isn't all that much to do for the effort/cost it takes to get there.

But what about the wine mixers?

The Carmel/Monterey area is often overlooked and underrated...especially if it is just you and the wife.

Wife absolutely loves this red wine out of Portugal.  $6.99 at the grocer.  Solid.

I'm on box number two of white wine for 2017. :bag:
Also from Portugal is Altano Duoro, a very nice red under $10. I found some 10 years old in my cellar the other day and it aged wonderfully (also good "fresh")

Camus Conundrum

All are under $15.
That's under $15 now? I really like that one a lot, but never saw it under 20

I prefer a Gerwutztraminer for the spicy Thai
