Played some poker today and came across probably the craziest/funniest hand I've ever seen or been a part of. Just thinking about this still makes me laugh.
I'm sitting at a $1/3 NLHE table, have about $250 in front of me at the time and had been at this table since it opened two hours earlier. Middle of the day in the casino, all decent players. I don't play very much anymore and certainly don't know these people, but at this point, had earned some respect on bets and there weren't any crazy aggressive players. I also have a pretty wide range of hands I'll play and typically play my best after the flop. So, all that said, here goes....
I'm in 3rd position. First and second players both call. I look down at 7h8c and call the $3. 3 more callers, then the button raises it up to $15. Big blind calls, first two players also call, so now I call as well with 4 callers already in and the last three people call. We have an 8 way pot, $120 already in. Already a little strange given the dynamics of the table and type of players (this was not a loose table at all).
Flop comes 3h4d5h. I'd love to see a 6 come out, so while I miss initially, all is not lost. First three players check. I check. Next three check...and as this is going around, people are starting to smile, checks are coming slower and slower, and finally the button has just had 7 people check it to him, but on this pretty dangerous board, he checks reluctantly. Turn comes and it's the Ah. First two check, and guy to my right, an older guy who has been pretty tight overall, tosses in $25. I float the call just waiting to see what happens (plus potentially could still win with a 6 and maybe even lucky with my 7h).
And this is when it gets even funnier. Next guy folds....then the next.....then the next....and even slower than the checks going around, next thing I know, every single person has folded on this board. Clearly worried about someone having a 2 and no one drawing to a high flush or obviously already had it. Which is just crazy to me with 6 other players in this hand. River comes Jc and the guy to my right checks it to me. I have 8 high, the nut low at this point, with no chance of winning this hand. The older guy has about $60 left in front of him so I push my chips in and figure it's my only way to win this $170 pot. I was actually pretty sure he didn't have the 2 for the straight or the flush, so it didn't take me long to make the move. Few seconds pass and he folds.
The entire table is mumbling, half asking what I have, and I just toss the cards in and take a ####### 8-way pot with A345J on the board with 8 high. But the way it just went around was ridiculous.
