GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (18 Viewers)

around here sturgeon spearing is a thing

somewhat controversial, low catch number is allowed, etc.

i'd never really given it much thought until i read a quote in the paper the other day.

guy was asked why he loves it so much and his response was (to paraphrase) "they're hard to catch. they've been around forever. they're dinosaurs. it's like hunting a dinosaur."

i don't meant to offend but

hunting dinosaurs

dinosaurs

dinosaurs live among us... and we hunt them.

dinosaurs

people are the worst

Does it make me a bad person if I hit on the girl looking at greeting cards next to me while I'm looking for a valentines day card for my wife?

I don't really understand anything you're upset about here.

she

i'm a fair bit older, we lived in different cities growing up and we just were never terribly close

Sounds like she is going deep on her contact list for recruits.  The least you could do is join so she can make her monthly nut.

Plus can you imagine the great stories you could tell here?  CAN YOU IMAGINE???!!!

Question for the parents here.....Mrs. TF's dad was killed (murdered in a robbery) when she was 7 years old.  Our 6 year old son today asked how he died, and my wife successfully changed the subject...but obviously I'm sure it will come up again.  Not quite sure how to answer it....not opposed to some loose truth, but obviously don't want him to get scared, etc.

Just looking for some guidance/experience from the thread.  No right/wrong answers at all, but I appreciate the perspectives.

Thx.

i don't see the harm in telling him. hiding it will make the whole thing a much bigger deal/ordeal down the road.

he probably won't understand it but at least he has the knowledge to mull over as he ages.

not a fan of hiding things from my kids so ymmv

Considering he never met the man a little white lie, until he's old enough to understand, is probably justifiable

Thx.  Yeah, I'm not a fan of hiding things either.....but I guess once he hit her blind with it...just took us by surprise.

We've always been very upfront with our kids.  Told my daughters (6 and 8) about my buddy who was shot and killed by the cops. I think I posted this in this thread earlier.

Anyway. We just told them when they asked what happened and explained why.

Id tell him the truth.  Good way to let him know that guns can be dangerous and that some people are bad

These are the hard things to deal with:

Sometimes people die

Sometimes people die younger than normal

Sometimes people die unexpectedly

Sometimes parents die unexpectedly

Sometimes people are bad and kill people

Someone might kill you or me at any time and there's not much you can do about it really

You still need to deal with other people though

And yet you should still be safe

Your mother was once your age

Your mother had a father

Your mother loved her father the way you love me

Your mother lost her father

You shouldn't be scared that your parents are going to die

I don't know how many of those your son already knows but if the answer is not many then you might want to ease him in

Just learned that my favorite radio station, WNKU, a non-profit college station, has been sold to some "bible broadcast" company.  So devastating.  Other than Tanner's spotify thread that he gave up on, this is where I find music that is new to me.  It has introduced me to so many artists I didn't know before.

Now I guess I need to step into the 21st century.  I have Pandora in the car but it seems repetitive.  How do I use Spotify?

Step 1... Get a box

Step 2... Cut a hole in the box

Step 3... Download spotify

Eta.. sucks about your radio station. But seriously, Spotify has been a game changer for me... have fun with it.

Explain it to me.  Also, I don't think I have enough storage on POS work iphone to download it.
