GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (22 Viewers)

Premiere went really well last Saturday. I've been talking with a major distributor every day since, Today we did a conference call with the Director, Producer and me on my side and the agent, the beancounter and the lawyer on the other side. They said they expected to get an offer to me this evening.

First the first time ever, I am literally waiting with bated breath.
Awesome man. I've been meaning to ask how everything went. So glad to hear!

I send that vibe yeah.

It's actually not a bad idea I have two freezers and two fridges. I had to go to Freddie's and buy 7 bags of block ice last night to keep it all cold. I also built a fire in the fireplace to have at least some heat. We just got power back at 6 am.

I went to my office last night to watch the Masters and recharge my cell phone and the whole neighborhood had power except about 20 houses.

Seems like our little section of the neighborhood always gets the worst.
Still no power here.  Really fun.

I'm getting the feeling I'm gonna get fired soon. I think I posted here a year or so ago about the "merger" that happened where my parent company booted every senior exec except me. Corporate offered me a 6 month "stay" bonus (which felt like blood money to me, as the guys they let go are my friends - to a man, they told me to cash that check). I took it and cleaned up a lot of stuff that no one left knew anything about. That's (mostly) done now, and I'm just kinda....there. I'm not included in many "spontaneous" lunches, for instance. I've been doing our business longer than anyone who is left in our region, and I feel some are threatened by that. To be fair, I've not tried too hard to integrate myself into their culture either (some of it is a union vs non-union background - these are the laziest people I've ever seen).

And, to be honest, I don't care for myself if I get hacked. I make a decent amount of money there, but can survive on much less. I can get a decent job just based on my experience. The problem is my health and the cost that comes with that should things go sideways again. I can't afford - at my age - to get Long-Term. And I don't want my mother or brother to be saddled with that ####.

UH - do you feel like you can give it an effort to be more actively involved with these people?  I know it can be hard, but nothing to lose.  Give it a real, honest effort.  There are likely at least a couple people in that group you find will be decent.  If not, and/or it just feels too "icky" then do your thing and let it play out.

They would be foolish to dump you, but foolish people do foolish things.

Oh, I know some of this is on me. Most of it, probably.

I tend to put my head down and plow through whatever wall is in front of me. "Leave me alone, and I'll get my piece done" and all that. Probably the same thing that wrecked however-many marriages/relationships.

My boss is about 20 years younger than me and has small kids. Same with the operations manager. That doesn't bother me, but it creates a distance as far as having things in common. Plus, there's a dynamic between the two pre-merger branches that makes the US/USSR Cold War seem like a sand box spat.

Corporate cliquey-ness is always there.  When it gets out of hand, it truly sucks.  I experienced it first hand a couple of times in my career - we have talked about that.

Sometimes you can improve the situation ...sometimes you can't.  You know whether it's possible or not and the chances of success and whether it's worth it or not.  I hung in there at times when I could have closed shop and said ####'em.  As a result, other things opened up for me.

Hang in there, man.  It looks like this time just your work won't do it for them (even though it should).  Give the schmoozing an honest shot and if things don't work out, when you look back you know you gave it your best.

And you know I don't mean ###-kissing.

Good lord, it's madness at my corner Latin American joint.  Apparently Radiohead is playing a couple of blocks away from here.  I had no idea as I've had tickets for a while to see Wire tonight instead. :oldschoolpunk:  The GMTAN contingent decided to see Radiohead in Portland instead of basically across the street from my place in Seattle?  Jerks. :hot:

Their new album is decent. Good show?

Stayed in last night, staying in tonight. Need to balance my karma after acting like a Philistine for five nights. Will break out the Drambuie and iced tea for SNL, perhaps.

this Criminal Minds show, while never good, has deteriorated to a point of being embarrassingly bad

guy gets second place in a HS science fair so he ties people up in a desert and electrocutes them to death

OK

Big fan

Wire?  Don't know yet - show starts in 30 minutes, one opening act.

Radiohead?  Don't know.  Haven't seen them since In Rainbows time.  The two shows I saw (2006 and 2008?) were fantastic.
OK. How were they. Yes. You were clear about seeing Wire, who have a new album.

So f'ing tired....forgot how tiring puppies are. Our oldest dog (10 going on 11) is fading fast and our younger dog (6/7) is severely attached to her. So we got a puppy for middle dog....and I forgot how tiring it is. This is Walker (not Texas Ranger). Catahoula Leopard dog and he's 3 months old. I'm ####### tired.

More like "Dogahoula" amirite?

can't explain why but i remain intrigued by curling
Some GBs and I looked into it. It's worse than a bowling league. 34 weeks. Have to join the "club" and volunteer at at least 6 fundraising functions per year. And this is for the beginner league. FTN

There's one league  in Cedarburg we could do without the volunteering and stuff but screw driving that far on a Tuesday. We drink far too much.

Back in the olden times I used to go to Montreal every year about the same time they had the Queen of Hearts tournament. So I'd sit in the hotel room and fap to Franny from Abbotsford.

But you could get a Bloody Mary at Morton's Wisconsin Inn.

God! I love that bloody mary
