GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (15 Viewers)

Really sorry to hear that.  My best friend died when I was 8 and I still think about it almost 40 years later.  I don't know how to advise about talking to your kids, but I am confident you will find the right words.  As someone who has been where your kids are, I do think it's important to talk and follow up about it later on.
I just talked to my youngest on the phone (he lives with his mom). He was shaken up and a bit emotional, but he wasn't particularly close to the kid. My daughter was. And some of my younger son's friends were too.

Been a rough year already.

A kid at my kids' middle school killed himself. He was a 7th grader. Daughter and youngest son were friends of his, at least casually.

I don't know the family at all, but I can't stop thinking about them.

Year to date tally is two kids who were friends of at least one of mine dead by suicide and one other who died of some kind of freak burst aorta or something.

#### this world.
I say this not to scare or be a ####  - get your kids someone to talk to. A professional. Even if just to recognie signs in other.  I was just having a long conversation with someone about this today - this stuff is contagious. Crazily contagious.  Sorry they're going through this and good luck.

Anyone got any advice dealing with a 15 yr old girl who is depressed and questioning her sexuality? Asking because I've never been a father of a 15 yr old girl before, this all new to me.

This guy had a 2:20 appointment.  Calls in around 2:00 saying he's running late, and we need to call his brother to pay for his exam, since the brother goes to work at 3:00 and he'll be underground (in a coal mine, presumably).  He kind of laughs incredulously that I don't pick up a sense of urgency over calling his brother to shell out $75 bucks for his exam.  Guy is 39 years old.

Rolls in around 4:15. Flames and other peoples' names tattooed all over his body.   Asked if he could smoke a cigarette before the exam.  "Sure."  Medical history shows chemical dependency.  Hepatitis C.  Four children.  Run him through.

Next patient is a morbidly obese woman.  She was nice enough, but holy gees man.  Couldn't even fit the blood pressure measure around her wrist.  Couldn't line up the machines with her sitting down.  It wasn't a vertical problem, it was a horizontal problem.  She couldn't brake the plane of her own stomach to line up with the machines.  Nothing to blame her for really, it was just kind of gross.

All I could think was that there will be four more of that dude running around and 0 of me/her. Maybe it's better that way.

common sense says, listen.  don't try to "tell" her what to do, think, be, etc.  do your damnedest to have her feel safe with you and that you will help in any way you can.

She knows I'm cool with her. My wife needs some coaching but I'm getting there.

Daughter is seeing a psychologist and she recommended Prozac plus counseling. I'm in uncharted territory here

i've not had any experience either.  just hoping to help.  i don't love the prozac, but wtf do i know?

Can't give advice but wanted to say I'm sorry you're dealing with this and I hope everything will be OK.
thanks.   I'm spending more time with her one on one and telling her things about my youth so maybe she can relate more.   main thing i want her to just be happy, she's my first child and very special.

Gl, Tommy.

5yo daughter, so will be learning from you. My intuition is to do exactly what you're doing: get her help, keep an open and supportive ear/shoulder. Depression can be dealt with and sexuality is sexuality. As long as she's safe, Only negative with the latter comes from outside judgement and criticism, imo.

Saw urgent Care on Friday about my cough- ended up with a ton of meds. Still coughing, but not as bad (not convulsive). Just saw pulmonologist who prescribed a battery of tests. Hoping to solve this thing.

An aside- because of our insurance (ACA), the only available pulmonologist who took the insurance is in deep, dark Brooklyn. No idea what will be next, insurance wise

Hope all turns out well.  I have not been to that part of Brooklyn.

Dammit, Redmond... So sorry to hear about the news. Please keep us updated on how your kids are doing. I've got two friends with girls in middle School... one of whom made a call for help suicide attempt, the other at the beginning of new hormonal rage at her parents, who don't know what to do. Floppinha is blurry only 5, thank God, but I'm sorting away all those events so I know better how to deal with her when she goes off the rails.

Like hipster Brooklyn?  Welcome Back Kotter Brooklyn?

Which part of Bako?

Merle Haggard or Joey Porter or Cody Kessler or Gabriel Iglesias Bakersfield?
I was going to reply there's only one part of bako, but then rememered we designed a house there (never got built) that was likely in the jefferson's part.

so for the sake of argument, let's say the staten island part of brooklyn.

I took a half-day today to get my teeth cleaned. :oldunsure:
Sounds productive.  I have an empty tank of propane rolling around in the back of my car to get filled after a pickup at Staples (online order) for some notepads they apparently don't ever sell in stores any more.  Ahhh...teeth cleaning.
