GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (24 Viewers)

First thing I saw in Ketchikan was this.  Can you top it?
First thing I saw in Ketchikan was a bar at 9 am with bathrooms called "Emergency Rooms."  Women were labeled "in patient."  Men were labeled "out patient."

Also, saw a tunnel with a big sign sitting in front of it that said "Tunnel" with an arrow pointing at it. Super helpful.

I don't have a problem going to sleep, I just keep waking up at like 3:30 or 4 am. Sometimes I can fall back asleep,  other times I end up watching science shows on TV.  Go ahead, ask me about pulsars, mother####er

We are dogsitting for my in laws.  I woke up at 3:30 AM to a standard poodle staring me in the face about 2 inches away.  He's a good boy but his narrow face and weird haircut is creepy.

Lotta insomniacs in this thread. Starting to think it's this thread. :oldunsure:
My schedule is pretty normal so sleep pattern is the same.  Except when I travel out west.  It usually takes me a good 4 or 5 days to get used to the time change.  I average 3-4 hours a night on those days

Tips for better sleep:

1) Go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every day. Even on weekends.

2) No screens at all for at least an hour before bed.

3) No eating at least 2 hours before bed.

4) No alcohol at least 3 hours before bed.

5) No caffeine at least 5 hours before bed.

6) Try this breathing exercise at bedtime to relax your mind and body: https://www.popsugar.com/fitness/How-Fall-Asleep-Right-Away-36597887

7) If your problem is more that you keep waking up in the middle of the night, try a white noise machine if you haven't done so. That will help your body relax and ignore other outside stimuli. Sometimes it's hard to break the cycle of waking up in the middle of the night because your body has decided that there some sort of threat or opportunity associated with certain times. Creating a slightly new environment that drowns out any external stimuli can help break that cycle. This particular white noise machine is a very good one because it is totally uniform with no auditory gaps/breaks/loops and lasts forever because it is mechanical, not digital. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HD0ELFK/ref=mp_s_a_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1496838014&sr=8-3&keywords=white+noise+machine

(Note that you need to make sure you buy that white noise machine as "sold by and shipped by Amazon" and not a third party. Looks like Amazon has had problems with counterfeits from 3rd party sellers. Or just buy directly from the manufacturer).

Number 4 is unpossible for many in here, but all great tips.
It's good advice, but none of that works for a large number of people in this thread, as has been discussed ad nauseam here. :(

For my fellow insomniacs:  I've started occasional use of Trazodone in the past few months.  It's an antidepressant that's used at low dosages for insomnia.  While it still only gets me 3-4 hours, it's more effective than anything else I've ever tried (which is basically everything).  If you haven't used this one yet, it might be worth checking out.

I sleep like a scarf swaddled baby.

but went through a period of non-sleep (not intentional- had lots of years of non-sleep being a just starting out architect) that genuinely sucked. I feel for you insomniacs... wish I could offer advise for why I sleep easier now- other than having young kids.

I used this for a time.  It works very well.

A guy I was good friends with in high school (and whose sister I dated) committed suicide a little over a month ago. Thanks to the dumb Facebook birthday suggestion notification a few people who were apparently not as good friends as they seem to think have posted cringe-worthy birthday wishes and sentiments like "I hope you're doing well!!!!".

Ugh. I absolutely loathe the whole Facebook birthday ritual. Let's not pretend people actually care enough to actually know someone's birthday.

Yeah, I'm with you here.  That happened to our GB Tremendous Upside a year or two after he passed.  The guy who posted didn't know and was just trying to be nice.  He felt terrible.

love your avatar mojo

my plan for today is real simple.   bang the wife like a screen door in a tornado, then golf.    I might eat some food at some point but not committed.     Sorry for your demon hell kids GM
