GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (24 Viewers)

I'm calling bull#### on that, Furls.  I had to Google who that even was.  If you knew her name, then you hadda know she was singing that song on those old "NFL gear for chicks!" commercials w/Alyssa Milano, or something.
i have a mom. she's in to Leslie Gore. or was.

I CAN HANDLE THINGS! I'M SMART! NOT LIKE EVERYBODY SAYS! LIKE DUMB! I'M SMART! AND I WANT RESPECT!

Yes. That's right. While I was listening to the Pixies, I never once took a break to listen to Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest or De La Soul.

My favorite drama movie is Blood Sucking Freaks....just like yo mama

Every time I learn something new it pushes some old information out of my head.  I just took a home wine making course and I forgot how to drive.

popped this on and forgot i had US Open coverage playing on a different monitor.  threw me for a loop to hear golf narration underneath some dude screaming at me.

thought maybe i just wasn't punk enough to understand

eta: now i see the problem. when youse were listening to the Pixies, i was listening to hip hop's golden era. '91 brought us a handful of the greatest records of all time https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1991_in_hip_hop_music
Seems racist.

Any tips/suggestions on how to talk a wife out buying house that is waaaaaaay bigger than we need?

We have no (nada) kids and two (dos) dogs. Currently live in 3 bed/2 bath house. Gonna move...possibly build...a new house in 3 to 5 years. She wants something like a 4 bed/2.5 or 3 bath plus pool for when family visits. I'm all for the pool but I think that's too much house for two people the majority of the year.

Right? Amirite? Wwyd?

nothing you can do

maybe bankruptcy, though?

Have you tried punching her in the face?

Watching a coworker go through the process of changing desk locations. This person is picking up one item in each hand and walking it from old location to new location. While it's irritating the hell out of me, I've crossed paths with her before and wouldn't be shocked if she was unaware that the box has been invented.

Show her how much the taxes and insurance are going to increase.   Tie that to something tangible that costs about the same.   "If we have to pay this much more money, we are going to have to give up [something she likes].

My ex-wife talked me into a house that was way bigger than we needed because we were going to have more kids.  Ended up destroying my credit for years when we had to get rid of it in a short sale as part of the divorce.

Divorce her.  Pay her half the equity you have in the current house.  Let her buy her own giant house with the cash you give her as a down payment.  You keep the cozy comfy house and bang strange in every nook and cranny of said house.

Nope. It's a great song.

That and "Where is my Mind" are typically the only Pixies songs that non-fans know.  I've been referring to WIMM? as "The Lovers Theme From Fight Club" for years.
Everything the pixies did is great. There are no bad options imo.

I feel the same way about Jane's addiction and smashing pumpkins. It is like a portal back to college

I am not familiar with the Pixies music, but the title "Where is My Mind" reminds me of something Ozzie Osborne once said - "Of all the things I’ve lost, I miss my mind the most."
Are you like 20 yrs old?

The merge from Walker Rd. onto 217 Southbound is the worst freeway merge design in the world.  The guy or gal who did it should be publicly flogged.  It's part of the reason why I gave up driving to the office.
Good news GM. Since it rained a billionth of an inch traffic is at a standstill all over the city, you could probably jog onto the freeway today

I was going to drive as I saw the rain in the forecast, hopped in the car, heard the traffic report on the sports radio station, knew 217 was a parking lot, circled back home, parked and walked to the train in the rain.  Dumping here now, but I'd rather walk in a monsoon than sit parked on 217.

Also, I started walking from my office in Tualatin to the Tigard transit center.  5.5 miles and usually some nice looking ladies jogging along the Tualatin River and Fano Creek Trail.  But the last few days of June Gloom have chased them away, so nuts to walking to Tigard, I'm walking my fat happy ### to BWW for beers while I wait for that train.

how could you be fat if you're walking that much>?     i'd imagine you've dropped 20-30lbs

5.5 miles? who has time to walk that far?
Catshirt Bob and me.

Also, 9 miles total for the day.  1 mile from house to train stop in Tualatin, 1.5 miles to office, 5.5 miles office to Tigard, another 1 mile back home.  I listen to podcasts, get high as a Billy goat and nobody bothers me.  Glorious.

Must be nice to not be needed at home or at work

He has about a billion, screaming two-year olds waiting for him at home.  Methinkst that 5.5 mile walk is the only peace and quiet our hero gets all day.  Add in yoga pants?  I can see the draw.

Hell, now that I think on it, I have a dog and probably walk 3 miles a day, all told, just waiting for "his majesty" to do his business.  It really doesn't take that long.  Another couple wouldn't be a huge deal.

Or I could have just "+1'd" this.

Incidentally, how high, exactly, does a billy goat get?

Walking really does reduce the urge to kill, if you're diligent. Haven't been very diligent lately.  :oldunsure:
If I could work someplace where the walk took me up to 45-70 minutes (and it didn't regularly rain like some kind of precipitation demigod turned his urethra dial to "soak" every afternoon at 4:45-7:00 PM) I'd at least consider walking every day.  Every job I've ever had, save the one where I worked from home, the commute was at least that, and wouldn't be unheard of to be double any given day if traffic sucked.  As you say, it's not a horrible way to decompress.

15-20 mins per mile and I'm home in about an hour or so?  Done.  Just not doing that ish in FL.

I'm needed both places.  Some people commute in a car 2+ hours a day.  I do it by foot.  Doing this removes the need to go to the gym.  Trying to be healthier, physically and mentally which is good for work and home.

I leave my house at 6:50am and the office at 2:15pm.  I'm back home by 4:08.  I am always "on call".  I also speed walk like a weirdo.
