my phone data finally reset today for the new monthly billing period

been riding out the last 2 weeks trying to use the bare minimum since i'm not on an unlimited plan.

this is what you get for letting your kid "play some games" on your phone while you wait for dinner one night at a busy restaurant. effing kid burned through 75% of my data in 30 minutes.

My son pulled this crap at the beginning of the month and I've been doing the same thing. We're on vacation and he's sitting in the room watching videos on his phone. Too damn lazy to log onto the free hotel wifi. I reset on the 27th, so I still need to milk about 10 days.

we were on vacation at my MIL's... no wifi. burned through all of our data in the first day. say la vee.

Sister works for Sprint.  She set us up with unlimited everything.  Makes up for all the other things she's brought to my life.
used to have this setup. ruined me for spending more than 30/month on a phone bill. to get that i'm limited to 1 gig data. which is fine as i don't use much............... except when the kids get my phone :hot:

yeah- we were on unlimited with T-mobile... something my wife had hooked us up for ages ago and battled to keep it with them at some ridiculously low rate- which they did because they used to be loyal to their loyal customers. that changed, so we changed to verizon- but now only have the 2G plan to keep costs down. when I'm not on a job-site every day (without wifi), I barely use it. but she's out and about and burns through most of it every month. we're always up against the limit.. but especially when the kids get involved or we're someplace without wifi for an extended period.

I had downloaded some app she recommended but didn't check the settings- ******* was using a ton of data in the background. that was a "win" for her in the "husband's fault" daily score-sheet.

i've got almost no apps on my phone. loaded up facebook one day.. thing drains data like mad if left open. neat.

See, the kid's name is xZander.  That's not really a normal name.  Sounds like something from Plan 9 From Outer Space.  The Simpsons is an animated comedy from the last three decades.  One of the characters is Kang, an alien trying to take over the world.  The joke is that xZander is similar to Kang.

HTH.
So you got the PCP I sent you?

guessing little max is 50% boxer, 25%  gull dong, and 25%  murderdog like tanner said.    He's on day three and has already bit my 7 yr old, the 5 yr old next door and drew blood on my wife.

I told my wife i was going to get another couple puppies because little max needs friends.   She just about #### her pants.

I get unlimited talk, text, and 8GB of high speed data (and unlimited 3G after that) for $45 month. I'm on the ATT network. My wife has the same plan but is on the Verizon network.

You guys are doing it wrong.

clearly.

how much is your wife's verizon plan? why are you guys on split plans? I'd have to look, but I'm pretty confident we're paying over $100 for both of us on 2GB of data.

Gull dongs are the worst.

eta: did you have to buy an $1100 phone up front and are you locked in to a 3 year contract?

I warned you, but did you listen to me? Oh, no, you knew, didn't you? Oh, it's just a harmless little puppy , isn't it?

My wife and I are both on Straight Talk. It's $45 a month per phone. No contract. You can either buy a phone through them at fairly normal full retail prices (sometimes with nice discounts for phones tied to them. Wife just got a brand new iPhone SE for $160.), or you can bring your own unlocked phone (I bought a Moto G 5th Gen for $165 from Amazon).

I got the SIM cards directly from Straight Talk on their website. I originally had ATT SIMs for both of our phones since ATT has better coverage in our area. But my wife's new phone came with a Verizon network SIM and I accidentally activated the phone with the Verizon SIM and it's sort of a pain to change. But not a big deal since Verizon is better in our area now.

The two biggest downsides are that the customer service isn't all that great and if you get into an area where your carrier doesn't have service, you lose service instead of roaming onto another compatible network.

The one other issue is that since it is an MVNO, if cell usage spikes in your area, your signal/call will be dropped before actual ATT or Verizon customers.

But yeah, we pay about $96 total with taxes for talk, text and 8GB each of high speed internet for 2 phones.

i'm sure my wife and kids are experts at puppy training while i'm at work.   Little guy is at home with 5 targets.   From his perspective he hit the ####### lottery

the last 2 nights, around midnight, i have been treated to coyotes going absolutely ape ####.  they are very close to my house.  it sounds something like this.  with a bit more yipping, like at the end.  it's hella close! easily within half a mile, if not closer.  very cool and super creepy.  i'll try and record it tomorrow.

Well,,,with your connections, it could result in a pretty good recording contract....no?

So here's a "what would you do" moment:

I have been working for a large engineering consulting firm for over 2 years now (I am not an engineer fwiw).  They focus on mostly DOT work as it is easy money.  My group has historically focused on other infrastructure like utilities with smaller clients and more of them.  We were recently bought out by a larger company taking our employee count to ~53,000 which in itself is turrible.

My company has decided not to pursue the type of work I do with smaller clients thus most likely ending my employment with them in the very near future.  I have been thrown on a FEMA project at the last minute due to an impending deadline which managers failed to foresee.  I was also told this project was supposed to be fast tracked last month when I had little billable work leading to my current status.  This project is supposed to end next week.  I also have nothing to do after next week again.

It was determined that the output needed to complete the project required everyone working on it to work overtime.  And then they made it mandatory.  I am also trying to finish up two other projects which are time sensitive as well.

So if you were me, knowing you will most likely be out of a job in early September, would you help them out?  I realize overtime would be extra money, but for me it doesn't prolong my employment.  I think I would rather spend that extra time sprucing up my resume and looking to the next job.

tl;dr Company wants to bleed me dry before they get rid of me.  What would you do?

Before I switched careers & entered the painting profession, I was an Environmental/Chemical Engineer (including DOT/IATA). Now, the reason I switched was multi-faceted & many of the things you list were part of my reasoning. Plus, STRESSS....lots a STRESS!

Thus, I totally understand.

I have no answer for you objectively, but I can say that I am MUCH happier working for myself as a lowly painter than I ever was as an engineer.

It is all about self esteem, freedom and self control.

Now, if you want to stay in your profession, which is wise, look around. There are some engineering type places that allow great freedom. But, on the whole, if you want to get out of that kind of rigor...step out on your own. It can be be done, but it takes a tolerance for risk and a willingness to abandon the safety of the organization.

After I did it, I wished that I had done it much earlier. HOWEVER, I make much less money per year. Someday, I may top my earlier salary, but it is not a given. Some....maybe you...may top it right away. Regardless, it is a calculated decision imo. Best of Luck! :)

Do the best job you can while also looking for other employment.
This is pretty much what I am doing.  Whole lotta ### going to hit the fan with this company by December and I don't want any parts of it.  This is the largest company I have worked for in my career and by far the most miserable group of people I have ever met.  I essentially told the PM on the FEMA project that I can't do OT, but will do what I can.  My boss has been really cool with me and knows what my intentions are moving forward. He's not too far from where I currently am with this company.
