I see these things on my phone. it could've been furley playing the according on rollerskates for all I know.
No way it's Furls.  Guy doesn't know how to use his phone to record a damn thing.  *Ahem*

(I can only "imagine" how today went at the office, what with Discount Double Check cracking his torso in half on Sunday)

If everyone was so motivated to do good deeds for candy, the world would be a better place
her motivation is blatantly obvious on its face but when couched in 6 year old terms, too cute to refuse.

she knows trick or treating there is on a saturday and Halloween is on a Tuesday so she gets to double dip.

i can't help but be proud that she sorted out the advantage and figured out how to disguise her intent in such a way that i couldn't say no.

it was truly the stuff of nightmares.

some sort of cross between the worst case of hysterical, shell shock laughter and grand mal gesticulating that makes me embarrassed by proxy. my skin was flush red from a combination of the awkwardness and fury.

my grandmother lived to be 101 and passed a few years back. she lived her last 8 or so years in a nursing home. she lived to see both my kids be born. used to go visit her a couple days a week just to chit chat as she could #### talk a blue streak and her stories (history to me) were interesting.

my kids loved to go visit. the place had an aquarium. sometimes families brought their dogs/cats/other pets to visit. they loved pushing my grandma around in her wheelchair. she doted on them. good stuff all around.

at Halloween and Christmas the old folks passed out candy to kids who came. specifically on Halloween they had the residents gather in the community events room and kids in costumes paraded through to trick or treat. everyone loved it.

apparently my kids loved it so much that they have asked to go back each year since great-grandma died. i just couldn't. too rough for me.

my kids are 6 and 9 now. the youngest has really been pushing that this year is the year. we're going.

what broke me is she has insisted we "go visit the people at the homeless shelter".  which is what she calls the retirement home. she positively beams with excitement when talking about it. how can i say no? she's jumping out of her skin that i said yes.

all i can think of is... she's technically correct... it is a homeless shelter in a way. and that's depressing as #### to me. but the smiles on those faces when kids roll through in costume.. how much fun they all have for those couple hours.  worth it.

In a similar vein we went to a local apple fest (craft fair and carnival type food, bounce houses, etc)

Anyway the local church was doing the Samaritans Purse thing where you pack a shoebox with stuff for poor kids for Xmas.

We helped pack a few and my 8 year old asked why they weren't getting stuff for Xmas.  I said something about parents not being able to afford it or kids not having parents,  etc.  Then he said " what about Santa?".  I had to go with the "oh I'm sure he brings them stuff too" but just felt bad, especially since we spoil my ####### kids and most of what they get sits untouched after a day and they just go back to mine craft and YouTube

Hate the real estate/lending/appraisal industry with the heat of a thousand suns.   Just learned that my house isn't going to close on time because (1) the mortgage broker ordered an appraisal from the wrong company; (2)  the second appraiser, who was paid for a rush to have it done by the 13th, didn't submit it until today and it got rejected by quality control; and (3) the lender, after getting 3 years of tax returns, 2 months of bank statements, two years of business tax returns and a 2017 P&L statement still doesn't understand how I'm paid.

Sellers are really upset and they are currently debating whether to give me an extension or take a back-up offer.

Now you know why everyone takes cash offers.

Maybe you should have your lawyer send them a threatening letter?

Is your lender local or out of state?

local.   worked out most of this today.  amended appraisal finally came in and the sellers agreed to a one week extension.   but all this stress was totally unnecessary.  it was a five week closing period.
the broker messed this up by ordering wrong the first time. Not a good way to get referrals.  I asked because out of state lenders are notorious for delays and underwriter BS.  Glad it got resolved...

Thanks.  Still a couple loose ends but the underwriter has to run out of questions about my finances someday.

Have them call me for a reference

My m movie will have it's final theatrical showing on Nov. 16 in Austin. Tickets here.

I'll show a good time before and after. The whole country gets to see it January 3, but so far, I still really can't say ####

it's the worst.  i call it underwriting purgatory.  somehow, no matter what you do....they always want something...and then something else...

or they say nothing and will give no status updates and then suddenly fund.

good times

I’ve been thinking about what I want to be for Halloween.  I think I am going to be a dish.  Women love doing dishes.

Summer of change continuing into fall. If I want to keep doing my job for the company I’ve worked at for 6 years I have to join a new vendor’s team. So I’m interviewing for my current role with a different company and I’d have my current employer as my client.

Except I was the first employee ever hired at my current employer, am vested as a partner and basically built the system to what it is now.

If I don’t take/get this role with the new outsourced vendor then I’m looking for some other job.

But, the business is healthy. Still hovering around profitability.

It was my wife’s birthday yesterday and all we talked about at dinner was my job and our business. Which is ok I guess cause it’s one of those seasons of life but sometimes I wish I had a career track at some faceless Corp where I could maybe possibly leave work, at work. I know it’s not that simple but startup/entrepreneurship is frustrating and ####### scary sometimes.

:loco:

this sounds insane. hope it works out... job > no job. or would they keep you at the old place if this doesn't work out?

if the new job happens, is there a way of pumping up the new outfit while burning the old outift down to the ground? am I misreading this and just venting because of idiots walking in the bikelane with faces in phones causing me to almost die?

I have no interest in burning the old outfit to the ground. The new vendor is an experienced outsourced sales team that has taken companies like ours and moved units better than most internal sales departments can do.   I would essentially be better resource with the new vendor to accomplish the job that I’ve been trying to do internally and I would have a team of sales people that would be able to provide me with support and training and accountability that I honestly need.

In theory, while it would not be a step up in terms of job title it would definitely be a positive development for my skill set and career except I don’t really want my career to be in sales in this industry.  Part of me is wondering if I just go outside of this franchise industry and look for sales or marketing or business development jobs with larger companies that would be a bit more stable and maybe provide me with more of a career track.

But, because I got in at the ground floor of a new start up a few years back I have a personal and financial interest in growing the company so I may take a job that I have no intention of doing beyond this project simply because I care for too much about this particular project.

gotcha. glad it's more on your terms and offers positives to your skills and potential fortune, even if it's not necessarily the direction you'd be choosing. also glad the company isn't forcing you out as I was misreading.

the murderous part is just me.

glllll roboto

Flop, pack up your family and move to Austin. The economy is booming and no one crosses the cyclists. A local talk radio guy is fond of saying 14 guys in padded shorts run this town. :oldunsure:

I'm all for sharing the world with pedestrians and cars. I just don't want to die doing it.

re: austin... they use architects? figured it's all artisanal dyi out there.

but big plu,s the MLS team is a-comin'.

if we moved there, we'd have to grow stupid beards though, right?

Another drawback:

It is only scarf weather in Austin about six days a year.

Would also have to invest in bicycle suspenders (whatever the #### those are) if what we've seen reported in these parts is true.

I suspect half the cyclists in Austin are into it solely for the gear. They like to clomp into happy hour in their dumb shoes and order a margarita.  :lmao:

I do it for the shorts.  It's the only socially acceptable way to show off your shvantz in a park on a Tuesday afternoon.

I know that I'm an idiot and should have read the carton closely enough to not make the mistake, but I'm still really frustrated to get home and pour a glass of milk and realize that this is not chocolate milk.

That's some seriously messed up packaging design.
