So, we are heading to Italy in March again and wife invited a work friend who is tagging along.  We usually book private tours, they cost around $200.

Would you charge the tag-a-long $100 for the tour in a 50/50 split or would you split the price up 3 ways?  $200 is a set fee for between 1-10 people, so amount of people doesn't alter price.

Thx - Will answer yours.
nice!  3 way split would seem fair.

"How about we pick up the tour and you pick up dinner tonight".  WA LA

it's been 18 mumfs since I lost my 'real dog'.  we got a new one and he is great and a rescue and he needs it and we did a good thing, but damn, losing 'my dog' crushed me.  I still see him out of the corner of my eye sometimes and it spooks me.  Hard to replace it when something you spend everyday with for almost 15 years (for me) just disappears.  Our last 2 weeks weren't great, makes it tougher for me.  I have his ashes on the mantle, they don't get buried.  They go with me.  I still call the new dog Jasper............I got a digital picture frame and run some of his highlights on loop.  Paw a 40 oz. out for me.
our last cat was this kind of unique soul.. profoundly affected the two of us and the family (we rescued him from a parking lot across the street from our place). our 6 yo still tells us she misses him almost nightly- 2 years later.

our new cats are fine and dandy, but lack this guy's street smarts and charisma. also call the new boy cat "chip" for the old fella who went through too long with cancer. on top of all that- a ####### mouse showed up within a week of him getting put down (at home in my arms... :(  )... just to rub it in.

speaking of dogs.  we are looking to rescue one, but are on the fence.  we've never been dog owners and don't take the responsibility lightly.  all of the breeds we like are high energy, smart dogs, which makes for more work.  but from my uninformed vantage point, more fun.  maybe a dumb, lazy dog would be a better choice for first time owners?  any tips?  or just go for the one that pulls on the heart strings?

my yard is now loaded with squirrels....my old guy, till his dying day, woul drag his #### after these squirrels in a noble attempt to catch one.  the new guy seems to have a deal with the squirrels, I don't bother you, leave some acorn crap around for me to eat.  he looks at them with a puzzled look, but wont bother.  almost like the squirrels know that crazy beagle isn't around and its party time.  bastards.

gotta find a breed that fits your lifestyle and house.  then find the breed rescue that is local.

:goodposting:  and then a trip to the pound/rescue and pick that one that you fall for or vice versa.

As long as you can give them exercise, high energy, smart dogs are great.  When you let them get bored, they can become destructive.  Less so the older they get, but then you also may be stuck with some bad habits/the things they've already been trained (or not) on.  If you're active enough, you'll be fine with whatever.  Just try to fit the breed to your lifestyle if you can.

50/50 or ask the tag-a long to give the guide a decent tip.

we have a small yard and a huge canyon across the street.  we have a perfect kennel/lair for the dog under the stairs.  pretty big spot to have as his/her own.  as far as lifestyle, someone is almost always home.  we are active,  the wife has taken to walking like SLB, 6+ miles a day.  we want a medium sized dog, slobber and excessive barking are deal breakers.

Always tough to decide whether to go with the 3 way in Italy.  You know what they say, "When in Rome....

bang your wife's coworker with her."

Charge her 1/3 based on this logic:

It's a set fee for up to 10 people. If your wife was bringing 3 co-workers, would you and your wife still pay half and have the other 3 split the other 50%? Of course not.

Killing a mortgage broker for ####### up your loan, then going radio silent after he agreed to provide daily updates--that's not really a crime, right?

Let me swing by with our knucklehead and let you take him for a spin for a couple of days, then you can tell me how much "fun" it is. :) Having a dog smart enough to quickly pick up commands and the energy/athleticism to go balls out on hikes, or doing laps, or agility training is great.  Having a dog smart enough to realize that if he is obstinate for long enough his "mother" will give in out of sheer frustration is less great.

First time owner?  My advice would bet this: Be honest with yourself.  If you think you want a high energy dog, go about two notches lower on the energy meter as you honestly think you can handle.  Would rather wind up with a dog who had a little bit of a governor on the engine than to find out I had just rescued the "Buggati of dogs" if I knew I was more of a "Subaru of people" kinda individual.

Not fair to the dog either if you rescued, say, a boxer or some kind of herder that need to "work" every day to not be total spazzes.

Don't they bark a lot?  They're good looking dogs.
Beagles are great dogs (aside from sometimes being kinda smelly if you don't keep up with it).  I grew up with tons of them(both as hunting dogs and pets) and almost universally they were good dogs.  Barking isn't really the problem with them in my experience.  It's the howling.  At any time of day, with zero warning.  That and the inability to ignore their nose for even a nanosecond.  Will follow that thing to the next county if they pick up something they think is interesting.

Awesome dogs though.  Sweet nature.  Pretty chill as they age.  Can be pretty stubborn however, due to the nose.  It really does rule their world, but you can deal if you realize that going in.  If I ever get another dog it will probably be a beagle.

Because you wife invited her and its not costing you any additional to have her join you, I don't think you should expect or ask for money.

We have some sort of hound mix (possibly with boxer or pit...something with brindle color) and yeah he doesn't bark much but that BAAAROOOOOOOOOO howl when someone walks by is neat

Oh he's also a complete glutton.   Throw out an old loaf of bread, hope the fence and scarfs it down.  Pizza to close to the edge of the counter, yep no leftovers.  Snatches food from the kids hands of the aren't looking

Neat dog

we have a dog. it's dumb smart. smart enough to know when to act dumb. eats ####ing everything. socks, chocolate, shoes, dolls, it's kennel, wood chairs. you name it. it's allergic to grass. ####ing grass. GRASS! ####ING GRASS!!!!!

the only person she listens to is me. otherwise, total ####ing disaster. jumps on people, nips at hands and arms, tries to sleep on the couches, rips holes in my screens.

smart enough to stay out of the road but that's about the best thing i can say about it.

wife & kids love her. but they don't take care of her. so, keep in mind if you're getting a dog... who is going to really be doing walks, feeding, nail trimming, etc.

the damned thing just tore around my house like Forrest Gump for about 10 minutes, scratching the #### out of my floors and banging in to furniture, trying to run down the cat. who would claw her ####ing eyes out if the dog caught her.

roll the dice, doggo. you're going to crap out and be blind.

:lmao:   these are some of my concerns :lmao:

on the dog adoption front, i think it might be easier for fish to buy a house* than adopt a dog from one of these tree hugging, humanitarian outfits.  there is a ridiculous amount of paperwork, screening, etc.  i was requested to send a video of my backyard from one of them.

*too soon GB?

Go on your local facebook page.  People are finding dogs all the time.  Just say one of them is yours.  wa la.

and GFY.

Check out Caeser the ####### dog whisperer right here.
came home from taking the dog to a dog park this morning. let her in the house, went to take a leak, come out in the living room and she's eating a chocolate bar my kid left on our table.

maybe... 1 minute left unattended and she was already in to some ####.

we just had a new kennel liner/tray delivered this week BECAUSE SHE ATE THE OLD ONE. she's in a kennel during the day because SHE ####### EATS EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

and i don't mean she ate the liner/tray over the course of a few weeks or months and we just lazily didn't do anything about it. i forgot to put her in her kennel one morning before leaving for work (because... that's my job), which apparently angered the dog... i guess???? so she ate 3/4ths of her liner/tray. ATE IT.

it's "indestructible". was.

prior to that she ate another "indestructible" doggie bed. my wife only buys "the best" for her pets. ####### bed was 100 bucks or some nonsense. dog ate it. ATE IT, TOMMY. ATE IT.

oh, btw, we have two cats. one of them loathes plastic. in all forms. so he pees on it. if he has to climb up a complex series of obstacles to piss on the plastic, well, by god that's what he's going to do.

my 9 year old just came up the steps crying her eyes out because the cat pissed on a box full of her favorite toys. that were dutifully put away in the place where they belong. she did the right thing and the cat still pissed on her toys.

PETS ARE LIKE HAVING TWINS  @General Malaise

The lady who came to check out our house when we adopted a dog was more thorough than the one that came for our home study when we adopted our daughter.

This sounds like a kid problem, not a dog problem, brother.
