Most companies crush morale and breed mistrust, they just don't formalize it.
the theory is that it is "the most honest feedback you will ever get". I'm still undecided as to it's value.

I like to think of myself as a person who is always trying to "get better". If I have a flaw, I'd like to hear about it. In this case, I just can't figure out what I've changed over the past year, so either it's something I don't know about, or I'm just turning into a ####ty person.

My wife is wearing a Christmas sweater this morning.  I say: "is today the ugly sweater contest at work?"  It wasn't..... :bag:

Kind of embarrassed to admit this, but I've never seen the movie The Outsiders, despite being a big fan of movies in the 80s and knowing that it was a star studded cast.  My oldest son is going to make his HS debut in a production of The Outsiders this week and plays "Bob".  I looked up who that was, hoping maybe he was playing the Tom Cruise character or perhaps Rob Lowe or even Ralph Machio.  Nope.  Bob was played by Leif Garrett and not to spoil this for you or anything, but Bob gets murdered.

So anyhow, I'm going to see my son get murdered tomorrow night and I could not be more delighted.

About a month and a half ago I made a very small change to my resume.  I just added a key word to my title at my previous job since it was a more appropriate title.  Since then, I have had so many interviews that I am optimistic I will have an offer soon after the holidays.  I have had an interview virtually every day for the past 3 weeks, plus a bunch in the 2 weeks before Thanksgiving.  It's been a challenge since Thanksgiving because I have been dealing with the jaw injury that is still bothering me, as well as the concussion, which is mostly better now.  I hope I am not jinxing myself here, but I just got home from an interview where I met with 4 people, and am excited about this opportunity.  I am in the interview process with 7 companies right now and this one is very interesting, and a significant change in culture from my previous company.

Anyway, the moral of the story is that if you are looking for a job, make sure you not only have all of the key words in your bullet points, but also make sure they are prominent.  I literally changed just one word, but since it was strategically placed it's made a big difference in the amount of interviews I have gotten.

Got a nice day planned tomorrow. After my oldest gets out of kindergarten at noon, we are heading up to Wrigley to meet my little sister at some Christmas Market thing, then heading to Lincoln Park for the Zoo Lights.

Let’s hope a 4 and 6 year old don’t ruin it.

Tom Cruise’s character, Steve, was inconsequential.

Rob Lowe, SodaPop, came off as rather “light in the loafers”  IMO.

Johnny, played by Ralph M., is a meaty role.  Gotta have a lot of range to play the only Italian kid in Oklahoma.

Probably the best role is Dallas Winston (Matt Dillon).  A veritable parfait of James Dean in Rebel, the Fonz, and Matt Dillon in My Bodyguard.

But Bob was Cherry’s (Dianne Lane) boyfriend.  Huge bonus.  Bob knew if the carpet matched the pubes.

WHAT WAS THE WORD?

It was "Operations" but I'm going to change it to Funkadelic now.  Parliament Funkadelic.  I like that a lot more.

I saw them with George Clinton in 1992. Mind blown.

One thing I like about live music other than the improv is the wide range in styles of how different acts will entertain people. Sometimes you'll see someone or a group you don't even like but on stage they just tear it up and you're like "whoa". You come away with an entirely new appreciation of them.

Parliment funkadelic was a spectacle. There was 30 people on stage in various costumes and the music was thumping. Very impressive show.

Hiring dude 1: Not sure I want to pull the trigger on RC94.

Cool AF hiring dude: RC94 is from outer space.

Entire room nods in agreement enthusiastically.

Such an awesome and unique band, and they really know how to put on a show.

Never saw them live, but I remember a bad movie called "PCU" (as in "PC" university; I can only assume I was strapped to a chair Alex DeLarge-style) where at one point, a character walks into a campus house party and George Clinton is playing live.  I don't recall whether P and or Funk were also there, but I do remember thinking how freaking COOL it would be to show up at that party.

this is how i felt about Femi Kuti

having only heard Fela, i wasn't sure what a Femi Kuti show might be like.. but went to see him anyways at Summerfest (on a free stage!) and was totally blown away.

so many happy white people dancing. the least fighty show i ever saw at Summerfest. great time.

Wait, you do Parliament Operations? That seems incredibly interesting and stressful.

RIP Pat DiNizio of the Smithereens, one of the more underrated bands of my generation.
Saw them in a bar in Austin once. They played "For Those About to Rock" by AC/DC through the PA before they went on, which takes some big brass ones. During the encore, the lead guitarist (with a wireless rig) walked off stage to the bar and got a beer, picked it up with his teeth and chugged it, and got back on stage. Never stopped playing the whole time.

Yeah, underrated.  :kicksrock:

Holy crap.  Totally sucks.

"Especially for You" was one of the best albums of the mid 80s.

I was actually just playing the Smithereens version of "Rudolf" on my classroom Xmas playlist.
