Looking at house listings, I've seen one today with "his and hers sheds" and another with a "prime creek bottom location."  I'm no housing pro, but isn't the bottom of a creek a bad location?  Are his and hers sheds pink and blue, to avoid shed-space-related conflict?

Can't a girl just buy a nice house with a naan oven without sifting through this muck?

I used to work in real estate.  "prime creek bottom location" is code for "stripper pole included".  Not sure what the other one is for.  It may mean there are 2 sheds.

Sorry, been an insane couple of weeks. We have been moving in to the new house and I have been building out DIY custom closet shelving etc. for Wife 2.0 (who has A LOT of clothes and...shoes. Oh, the shoes) and me. I also just became aware of something quite awful that happened to two of my kids and there has been a lot of court time related to that.

At the risk of being a drive-by posting d0uche, here are a few pics of the (98%) finished place:

I call bull#### on that.

Well, I'm not a realtor®.

Your house looks amazing.  The bathroom and the flooring are particularly swoon-worthy.
Thanks. As soon as we are settled, you are more than welcome any time. Realistically that is likely to occur sometime in mid-August, if the rest of this process is any guide.

His and her sheds: Could be from some of the reality shows I've noticed Mrs. SLB watching that there are chicks with tools that like to do stuff.  Could also be outhouses.

Prime creek bottom location:  If the joint is elevated, would be awesome. I understand your worries about a flood but may have a picturesque pool with the fishes and such.

Your house is 1 kajillion times nicer than mine.  Congarts!

My Grandparent's, mother's side, had a great brick grill/fireplace/oven in their backyard. All of my uncles did, actually. Enjoyed so many BBQ's off of them. Irish bricklayers, man.

HFS, yes.  Nice GB!

It's not too late for your family to adopt me.
Sadly that generation is all gone. They paved the way. Lucky for me I was a mistake and got to know my Great Grandparents and everyone associated. I heard their stories. My many, many, many, cousins  and myself won't let it go when it comes to our kids. We have all been given a gift. Man. We need to do a little something, something. I have a lot of confidence in my boys, they're clean.

I am in RE now and this is code for private pooping rooms.

Damn. Beautiful home.

Thanks guys and gal.

I guess the good news is that when you throw yourself over the precipice of financial ruin on a home remodel, you get to live in something pretty nice. At least for a while.

Jealous. My house is worth a lot because it's prime Portland real estate but it's a 1939. I'd have to spend another 100k on upgrades to get my kitchen and master bath to look anything close to that. You did great work there bud

I don't want to talk about how much we spent, but suffice it to say we put over a third of our purchase price into additional renovations and upgrades. As a result, we are in a negative cash position. That's the bad news.

The good news is that we had 20% equity on the initial purchase, so even if we only get out what we put in, we now have about 50% equity. I'd also guess that between improvement in the market over the last year and our equity uplift, we'd do better than that on a sale.

Unfortunately that doesn't solve the cash issues.

If it makes you feel better, I have cash issues and 0% equity.

I hope that does make you feel better because writing it out just made me feel much, much worse.

In Croatia, everyone has one of these things (there's great debate on the proper size and height of the sides to get proper air flow and venting, but I digress).  After going for 10+ years, I finally was given permission to use it by myself one time last summer.  Oh, if you're over there, never ever call it a grill.

Did he rig up some sort of trapeze above the bowl?   Or do you guys have the worlds largest elf on a shelf?

The union jack framed Corgi photos really pull the kitchen together.

I should know this, but how do they say "naan oven" in Croatian?

Rostijla is the brick structure.  The metal grill-like object which is used to cook riba (fish) or cevapcici (sausage-hamburger type thing) is a "gradale".  Grill has ugly American connotations and is frowned upon as cooking on the gradale is generally at much higher temperatures than on a gas Weber grill.  The only thing I've seen come close is something like the Big Green Egg.

So the region of the world that gave us the Yugo is thumbing their nose at us for our backyard BBQ equipment?

More like mocking.  It's SERIOUS BUSINESS(tm) over there and I've been a party too multiple long discussions on the proper size and shape to ensure the smoke goes out through the top.  Like I said, it was 10 years before I was even given the opportunity to use it and that was just for cevapcici...the father in law thought it was lunacy to even try fish after he saw how I did.  :bag:

Officially done with work for the year so probably just going to sit around and drink for the rest of the year which is pretty much what I do everyday but at least I don't have to go to work the next day

actually I have to email out one presentation that I half assed that we won't actually officially present until February but the guy insisted I sent it out today I actually went to the bar for the afternoon instead so I'm going to send it from home to make it look like I was doing work this afternoon Merry Christmas f******

I think I'm making a new offer in the next day or so.  It's for ground-up new construction; will take 10 months on an as-promised basis, or six years if I go with the Redmond plan.

So against all common sense and over my objections we took in a stray puppy this week. Wife’s friend found him, tried to find owners for a couple of weeks, and I relented and said we’d take him since her work/career weren’t a fit.

He”s about 4 months old, and about the cutest beagle/terrier/hound type mix you can imagine, when he’s sleeping. Awake, he’s probably 80 percent Tasmanian Devil right now. Ugh.

Our 13 year old Dachschund is not thrilled and Leroy (I wanted Arf Garfunkel but got outvoted) of course thinks it’s great fun to try to get her to play with him, and even more fun when she’s had enough and snarls at him.

60/40 he takes out the Christmas tree at some point.

Right now he conked our next to me on the couch and the other one is in my lap, so all I need is somebody to fax me a bourbon, please.
