every damned day.Did a chicken knock on your door for real?
eta: it sucks because he ####ed up the yiddish accent- sounded more portuguese than anything.
the Portuguese accent makes it so much betterI've told this joke quite a few times. The best is when the person says "I don't get it" with a dumb look on their face. And I say "I figured"it was either 6yo floppinha or my drunk friend the other night that told this one
-why did the chicken cross the road?
-to get to the moron's house.
-knock knock
-who's there?
-the chicken.
I assume this was meant for me.every damned day.
eta: sorry to hear about the suicides... I forget- you have kids? does anybody know if there are connections to what's going on?
Sounds like 15 years ago @Homer J Simpson and @General Malaise figure out how to combine their super powers into one person.I assume this was meant for me.
I do have kids, but live far away from where I grew up. So she's not at all impacted by this.
There aren't any connections that I know of. I'm a bit out of the loop on local goings on, but as far as I know, the students haven't been related or friends. It's hit everywhere from I think 7th grade to 12th. An additional class of 2017 graduate committed suicide within the last 6 months as well. It's totally crazy.
I think sometimes things like these gain some sort of weird mental traction with kids that age and start spiraling. One of the nearby high schools made national headlines about 15 years ago when it started to become "fashionable" to get pregnant. Something ridiculous like 30% of the high school girls there were pregnant.
I do know that the district has really started to go from solid blue collar/middle class to low blue collar/lower class. Tons of kids coming from messed up backgrounds and tough situations now. I'm not sure if those circumstances are a contributing factor or what the heck is going on.
My mom taught in the district for about 20 years. Maybe it's just selfish of me for my mom, but I keep hoping that none of them end up being one of her former students.
I just Googled for some articles. I was a little high. ONLY 13%. 64 girls got pregnant in one year.Sounds like 15 years ago @Homer J Simpson and @General Malaise figure out how to combine their super powers into one person.
Soiled the hotel carpet again, didn't you?Too embarrassing to share.
It was a very cool program.anyone else watch the Hubble program on PBS last night?
left me with way more questions than answers... and questions i'm not sure i could fathom the answers to anyways.
seeing the Hubble photos online over the last few years has been cool but without context, ultimately, kind of meaningless. this program really adds the missing pieces.
my mind = blown
Sure you didn't blow a seal?btw... woke up covered in ice cream.![]()

my wife, who is as near to anti-intellectual as anyone i've ever met (despite being incredibly smart & a 4.0 student) sat rapt the entire time. she hates programs like this. hates them. i mean... hates them.It was a very cool program.
and, of course, some will adamantly profess that we're all alone in this great big shebang, amirite?my wife, who is as near to anti-intellectual as anyone i've ever met (despite being incredibly smart & a 4.0 student) sat rapt the entire time. she hates programs like this. hates them. i mean... hates them.
my 7 year old was mostly enthralled, too. not sure what she made of it all but she sat through damn near the whole thing.
seeing those giant columns of color on the internet, or in the paper was cool.. then to realize how many trillions of stars, billions of planets and galaxies they contain & that those columns are just a small sliver of the currently known universe.
i was flabbergasted
after watching that ####, i've pretty much given up any conviction i ever had about anything.and, of course, some will adamantly profess that we're all alone in this great big shebang, amirite?
It was pretty amazing. I was and still am amazed at how they pieced together pictures to find out the ages of different galaxies. Crazy stuff.my wife, who is as near to anti-intellectual as anyone i've ever met (despite being incredibly smart & a 4.0 student) sat rapt the entire time. she hates programs like this. hates them. i mean... hates them.

the construction of the mirror, the installation of the mirror, fixing it. the way they calculated distance. how they can tell if an "object" is moving towards or away and how they calculate distance/time based on that.It was pretty amazing. I was and still am amazed at how they pieced together pictures to find out the ages of different galaxies. Crazy stuff.
All that talk of black holes kind of..... ummm, was a but exciting![]()
i did not catch the show you referenced, but Mobdro/Kodi both have channels and subs that feature tons of like minded ilk - including Hubbel - they serve as a slam dunk game changer in regard to pondering the universe, and it's eternal possibilities - it is eternity.after watching that ####, i've pretty much given up any conviction i ever had about anything.

Getting old is fun.
Huh. Figured it would be throwing urine-soaked snowballs filled with batteries at him.
