I got some rib eye steak sliced ultra-thin and fresh bread.  Going to chop up the steaks (Philly style), fry some shallots, and make cheese steaks for dinner tonight.

You'd probably like Eugene. They don't have the food of Austin or the music but it's beautiful and what you lose in big city you gain more in natural wonder. That's as an Oregon lifer that has spent a lot of time in Texas.

Eugene is a fun town

As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock'n'roll

I want an affordable, walkable downtown with lots of bars, restaurants, a movie theater, and a library
I grew up and live near Bend Cos. If you spent time in both Bend and Eugene I would be shocked if you didn’t choose Bend. Liberal enough for you, good restaurants, GREAT beer culture, 300 days of sunshine a year.

Wife has a lot of family in Portland and I have quite a few friends in Seattle, so moving so far away, it would be good to have that social safety net.

Does bend have trains to Portland and Lake Tahoe?
You can catch trains about 45minutes south of Bend. Unfortunately that isn’t really part of the infratructure in the East side of the mountains.

it is about 90 minutes further to Pdx and Seattle from Bend than Eugene. Not so bad imo. Eugene’s only real advantage is being 45 minutes from the coast.

today i discovered WikiNetWorth

http://wikinetworth.com/celebrities/deidrie-henry-wiki-bio-age-married-husband-boyfriend-and-net-worth.html

Short Bio and Death Hoax:

The Hollywood actress Deidrie holds the American nationality and is of the African-American ethnicity. Henry is standing with her 5 feet 8 inches of height with over 80 kg of weight. The lady has a perfect body with an attractive black-looks face and healthy body as well. Last but not the least, the lady also a Victim of Death Hoax on the internet or some wiki site, but it is not true because she is still alive. Well, you also get her on social media accounts.

:lmao: wtf

"Cruelty-free eggs" are yet another example of overly permissive parenting. One needs discipline to excel.

Here comes Cool Whip Carol, once again trying to pass off a Sara Lee cake as made from scratch.

I've gone a little insane in terms of how much I'm working out, and I'm tearing through podcasts too quickly and need some new ideas.  Any suggestions for good stuff to listen to?  My favorites are This American Life and then everything else.  I like Heavyweight, enjoyed ####-town, like Pod Save America, didn't like Serial, to give you an idea.  @mr. furley?  I think you know a lot in this realm?

I think there was a podcast thread around here somewhere, but I trust the GMTANners more.

Just looked this up and actually would be interested.  Adding it.  Why did I think you know a lot about podcasts?  Maybe it was mr. fruley.

Pod Save the World is by the same guys and is really good.

Stay Tuned with Preet is a must-listen.

Slow Burn by Slate digs into Watergate.

Left, Right & Center is a bit more balanced discussion of issues than PSA.

The Dollop is pretty fun. 2 comedians do a bi-weekly podcast where one of them picks, a usually somewhat obscure, figure from history with an interesting/crazy story and then unravels that story while the second guy reacts to the insane stuff. Informative and hilarious at the same time.

Tell Me Something I Don't Know is a lot of fun. It's setup like a game show. Each episode revolves around a loosely defined topic. There are typically 6-7 participants that then share something interesting that they do related to that topic and try to "win" by being the most interesting/least likely to be already known/important in some way. Lots of interesting tidbits to learn communicated in a fun way. Usually has some sort of celebrity guest.

And I always recommend Freakanomics. I'm an economics nerd that leans libertarian so I recognize it's not for everyone, but they approach all sorts of interesting topics/problems that you may not even think are related to economics, and approach them with novel views and potential solutions. I always end up either learning something interesting or at least looking at an issue differently than before. For instance, did you know that the standard body temperature of 98.6 is based off of a single doctor's data? Granted, he collected tens of thousands of readings over a long time period, but it turns out that a researcher just recently happened upon the thermometer used to take all of those readings and it turns out that the thermometer is actually itself off by a bit. So 98.6 is based off of bad data collected about 100 years ago at a single location.

I finished the Dirty John podcast over the weekend. It was pretty good.

Just a head's up, you'll get really angry at the woman involved for her idiotic decisions.

Hood River

all the things you listed and 1.15 hours east of Portland in the gorge.  Not sure about the affordable part.

I know nothing about podcasts. My über left wing vegan brother in law is always telling me to listen to this or that. I run the other way.  What do "normal" people listen to on podcasts?
