GOSH FREAKING DARNIT!.

Just found out that plans have changed for Thanksgiving...for the worst.

For the last few years it's been a pretty easy day. Wife's grandmother likes to "treat" us to an early feast at Hometown Buffet (I know, I know but it's the thought that counts and my sons and I like to see who can find the biggest walking/talking cliche while we're there) about about 11am. Then we head to my brother's for the real deal at about 2pm.

Not this year. Grandma has a son named Rick from her first marriage (I guess that would make him my wife's step-uncle). He's a decent guy but he has this live-in girlfriend that is unbearable. She is a cross between

Pretty sure she's a closet tweaker as well. She has decided to host Thanksgiving this year. That means we have to drive about 30 minutes out of town to enjoy her company. We did this same thing about 4 years ago. Her family was nice enough but it was pretty obvious that they weren't used to having "outsiders" as guests. "So you're a teacher? That's great. Hey, Jimmy remember that time Cousin Peanut got suspended from 6th grade for driving Uncle Earl's skiploader to school? Haw haw haw."

:duelingbanjos:

Thanksgiving at the Hoarders on Thursday, casino en route to SC Thursday night, then Thanksgiving with my secessionist mother Friday afternoon.

Should be fairly uneventful.

(except for when we tell both sides of the family that YSR Superbaby is due June 28, 2013) ;)

Actually I have no problem with their redneckishness. They're just socially inept. Oh and the biggest affront? The last time we were there I assumed that it was a booze free event. There was none in the kitchen nor at the tables. Yet as we were leaving we drove by the garage. Inside was step-uncle and 2 or 3 other cousins standing around an ice chest and a case of beer. Thanks for the invite, hicks.

Should have brought some to share, cake-eater.

I can't express enough how m,uch cancer sucks. Wife just called, her dad passed after 5 months of being diagnosed with brain cancer. I might be going off the grid for a while, or not, all depends on what's happening over the next couple of days.
Very sorry to hear. My very best to you, your wife and family. #### cancer.
That's tough charv. Stay strong for your wife, she needs you now

any of you guys got a kindle fire? reviews?
Love the Fire as a reader and also works okay for going online. Not great web experience, but plenty for catching up on email and GMTAN. Very hard to beat for the price and gmtanners have a pretty huge collective mobi collection, except for shuke who has morals.
my wife's nook? I'm sure I could figure it out with some help...
Seem to remember someone here had tons of illustrative photos of all manner of nooks, gb. See if you can hook up a forrestmail account

Not sure if I've mentioned this before but the 3rd string QB at USC (the Trojans not the Traitors) is a former student of mine. I have his little brother in class this year. We both just made a silent pact to hope that Wittek breaks a thumb or something.

How does the FB friend recommendations work? It keeps suggesting Adrian Finch (no idea who this is but she looks very hot) and Matt Holliday to be my friends. WTF?

I think they scan your updates for certain key words. Have you posted anything with the words "jerk-off" "dirty player" "intentionally injuring" or "cheap shot slide" recently?
:lmao: All of these are incorrect however "terrible outfielder" and "chokes under pressure" are not.

Actually, there's no such thing as being a "clutch" baseball player. It's been statistically disproven that some players perform better in high-leverage situations than others. :nerd: :grad:

Call it what you will, he sucks whenever you really need him. Catching a fly ball is a challenge for this guy. I've heard he's a good man but he pisses me off on the field.

The A's traded away a future superstar to rent him for a few months, so I want him to walk into an open sewer and break his leg. Then get rescued, but then die of a septic infection a few days later. And also maggots hatch larvae in his eyeballs somehow. So I'm with you in that regard.

Tonight we're playing a game with our 2.5 year old where we have her dog toy on a blanket, and we're tossing him up in the air. Out of nowhere, unprompted, she says "We have a great family." How ####### great is that? She's also pretty advanced, linguistically. My wife and I look at each other, amazed, and she just keeps rolling right along with throwing the dog up in the air. She'll also completely melt down, and an hour later, apologize to us unprompted. Kids are pretty awesome. They can also be a massive pain in the #### and they guarantee you're going to get laid about 82% less than you normally would, but it's so worth it. I think. I'm pretty sure.COWHERD! :towelwave:
you give dog toys to your kid?
It's a stuffed dog.I think we played with a ball today that's made for cats. :bag:
I'm not judging. Kid toys are expensive.
You can make toys out of anything, really.
We brought our 18 month old to a birthday party this weekend. She found drink coasters on the coffee table, and for the next 2.5 hours, "circles!" were the best and most entertaining thing on the planet.Which meant Otis could watch football

Is the word "I" broken or something?
