GM's thread about nothing (37 Viewers)

We have an unused elf for any of you in need of one. We put it out once and JR refused to come downstairs when he saw it so the elf was quickly retired.

JR is also not big on Santa. Santa came to preschool Monday and JR walked into the building, saw Santa, and turned around and walked out without breaking stride. He told his teacher that mommy had already given Santa is list so there was no need for further discussion.
On the basis of this evidence, I would recommend staying away from Eastern Orthodox churches and ZZ Top concerts.

Those of you in a rough patch, let me say this: about a year ago I posted that my company seemed to have been granted some life by a decent order that came along this time last year. Well, that didn't lead to much and by Coshole the dumpster fire was in full effect. As chronicled here, I had numerous moments when I thought my wife was leaving me, my financial life was ruined, and I my life was over. I had settled to take a job earning half of what I was used to just to have a paycheck. I even got laid off at football guys after a decade.

Then something amazing happened. I started being honest about my station in life. It was hard, but I started by being honest with myself. Then my wife. Then my family. Then my business partners. I think I started first by being honest with you guys. There was generosity I never dreamed of from people like homer and thorn and cosjobs and others who asked nothing in return but now have my undying loyalty and friendship.

I sold all of my non essential possessions to make ends meet. Things I didn't need like my golf cart and outdoor tv. Things I cried about turning loose of like the mandolin my parents gave me as a college graduation gift. But I did what I had to do and the bills weren't paid late and we had food to eat.

And it started to get better, a little at a time.

Now I'm heading in to 2014 with a job I absolutely love working with people I adore. My marriage is stronger then ever. My daughter is amazing. I have a new daughter named after a large black woman who will be here in less than two months. I have a company that has been profitable four straight months for the first time in its five year history. I author two blogs for one of the most successful marketing firms in the country for a substantial amount of extra money each month.

So first I thank you all for being there to listen, laugh, cheer on, and make fun of me this year. You guys and this thread have meant more than you will ever know.

But more importantly to pack and bob and others: it gets better. It does. One foot in front of the other, day by day. It gets better. Hang in there and I'm here if I can help.
This was a very nice post. Good for you, Abe. I bust your balls, but I'm happy for you.

Now teach me how to blog for money.

Stu Jr has been anxiously awaiting the Packers visit to Dallas for a full year now. Tomorrow is the big day. His first NFL game! :excited:

Aaron Rodgers being ruled out was disappointing but barely dented his excitement. Then yesterday Jr came down with something. 103 degree temp last night continued throughout today. Poor guy slept basically 20 hours straight, with just a few 5 minute breaks. Game status very much in doubt. Questionable at best. :oldunsure:

But throughout he insisted he was going to the game "no matter what". :football:

Finally about two hours ago his fever broke and he felt much better. Now he's down for the night and will hopefully be ready to roll tomorrow.

Haven't read anything past this, but Romo gave you and your son a game for the ages. He'll never forget that. Romo.....it's really impossible to put into words.
It's the perfect storm of suck. Tropical Storm Jerry dumps buckets of crap players onto the field, converging with Hurricane Red Jesus, the spineless yes man who couldn't get a job anywhere else, so he does everything demanded by the idiot who doesn't know a thing about football, while Tropical Depression Romo, who might thrive in a stable environment with good coaching and talented teammates, feeds off the other two to spew forth hailballs of crap the second a high pressure system presents itself.

It's Mother Nature. You can't fight it.

We were supposed to get 3-4" of snow last night and it turned out to be 9". I hate my piece of #### snow blower with a passion. The thing is great as long as there is 2" of snow or less and it's is dry and fluffy. Anything, else, notsomuch. I seriously considered throwing it in the street and running over it, repeatedly, with my car.

Frosty, please add Sears, Roebuck and Company to your enemies list.
What's a snow blower?
A chick who goes down on your pasty white ####?

That last, bobbled interception won me a playoff game. I yelled at a television, in a room by myself. Talk about a wasted life.

:bag:

:lmao:

Also "Operation" by Deerhunter just played on my Spotify. One of my students actually said "This is The Deer Hunters, right?"

I was shocked that any of them would know who the band was. Not to mention I like the pluralization shtick.
That kid is pretty cool.
Never heard of 'em. Apparently that kid is cooler than me.
I would recommend Halcyon Digest to anyone.
Yup, top 20 album for me. Still can't believe you hate My Morning Jacket.

And so, tomorrow night brings an end to "MAN WEEK". We cemented our last day absent wives/sisters/daughters/rules/dishes/reason/vegetables by going straight from school to Buffalo Wild Wings to eat happy hour fried pickles and other healthy choices. We had popcorn for dinner with what was left of an ice cream cake for dessert. It'll be good to see the women, but we've had fun since they left. Whole lot could be written here that won't, but suffice it to say, I got good kids. Good friends. Good family. You folks. Best friend lost his SIL today. I knew her. Sent her flowers over 10 years ago when she was diagnosed with cancer the first time around FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK you cancer. Take me, jerkass. Leave these good people alone. Come fight me. I'm gonna swing at you a few times hard.

Seems I've overindulged. Again. Another win for MILOS?

I miss Shining Path. I still cry when I think about Big Bottom losing his son. I'm glad Bill is still alive and kicking. I really like him. I wish I was nicer to Cosjobs than I've been to him in the past. I'd like to do Mellyhole III and Cosjobs I over again. I thank you all for keeping this thread alive. I don't have much money or power or anything to call a legacy. But we have this. Cool. Should we show our kids? ;)

You're good people GM. You're always willing to help others as best you can. This thread, this community doesn't happen without you at the center of it.

Have these people getting carried away with elves on shelves been addressed yet? Do they not realize the #### they do has consequences for the rest of us?

"Little Johnny's elf made elf doughnuts for him and his sister because they were so good. And Chartreuse's elf undecorated her tree last night. Julia's elf brought her a note. How come my elf hasn't done any of that?"

"Based on the recycle bin, it seems like your elf got into a bottle of Pritchard Hill last night. She was probably sleeping it off. "

I hate you people. :finger:
Is this the little bendable elf that my stupid sister-in-law keeps putting up pictures of on her Facebook? What the #### is that all about?
Some chicks are trying too make a bunch of money off of Christmas by getting kids to get their parents to buy them stuffed elves. Parents have to be parents and take it to the next level. At this point, for way too many of them, it's more about the parents than the kids.

I'm easily annoyed, so this bothers me.

Well, that and my daughter being a social butterfly who feels like she's missing out on something because, "She's THE ONLY ONE in her class without an elf. "

Yeah, I'm sure the Weinsteins have an elf.
Oh, OK. Sounds awful. My SIL has some elf-thing that she keeps putting in different made-up situations and posting a picture of it on Facebook every day. Like, in the wine bottles deciding between red and white. It's horrible. She's pretty horrible, too, yet somehow a bit better than my brother.
My boys love the elf which they named Sparky. We only move him around though, nothing crazy. Mostly because that would require work. Although I was drunk Friday and had him riding an angel's face. They just like the game of looking for him when they wake up. Dylan did ask me this morning why he had tags on him.

Yeah, that's the one.
 So it's a thing? Not just her being particularly dumb?

I weep.
All over Facebook. Google search took me here: http://www.pinterest.com/jhudziak/crazy-elf-on-the-shelf-pics/
Oh yes, that's it! Luckily she seems to be the only person on my Facebook that I've seen do it. I've been (mostly) spared, I guess.

I hate those pictures she posts more than I hate genocide, kitten-killers, mosquitoes, people who make spelling and/or grammatical errors in their thread titles, and that GMTANner I don't like, combined. :(
I don't actually have a problem with the Elf on the Shelf. I mentioned in the thread about it that my sister does it for her stepdaughter and she gets really creative. She has a lot of fun with it and my niece is beside herself with giddiness every morning. In my experience, the people on my FB who post pictures of their elf are the people whose posts typically drive me crazy anyway.

I don't have a creative bone in my body and that whole Pinterest thing overwhelms me, so our house will likely be elfless.

I woke up this morning around 4 with this terrible pain in my chest. Yesterday there was this old who had her car stuck in the snow/ice and I pushed her out. Dress shoes don't go well with ice. I guess I pulled a muscle(s).

That's when I noticed Mrs. SLB wasn't in bed with me. I went to find her and she tells me Cal had been up all night long puking.

So I check my magic football playoff game and I lost by .2 points. If I had any idea how the scoring worked, that's probably like 1 rushing yard worth. Screw you Bush.

I've been out delivering gifts to all of my clients the last 4-5 days. Some of them are at a hospital in the same buildings. So I'm not walking back and forth from car, I brought one gift in and set it outside the door, and then delivered the other one. Chatted for a bit, and she let me out a side door. I go to retrieve the gift, wrapped in brown paper, and there are people walking towards me. I pick it up and keep walking all in one motion. This younger gal coming the other way saw this and looked at me like "um, yeah WTF was that all about?!!". lol

You should have started running.

At one point on Sunday, my magic football team had a 0.4% chance of winning. Ended up winning by 4 points. I give all credit to football talk here in the thread.

Slightly related news: Resse's Power snuck out a close win as well. But I'm sure that they will be destroyed this week.

There are a crap ton of cedar trees on capital of Texas highway in Austin. About 8-15 feet tall. Hundreds of them. Well, it's become a tradition for "people" to decorate them like Christmas trees this time of year. Actually looks pretty cool driving through miles and miles of decorated Christmas trees.

Who takes the decorations down?

Don't know. Most of them end up cleaned up by mid January, presumably by the people that decorate them. But there are one or two that seem to stay up year round.
