GM's thread about nothing (31 Viewers)

Tanner, please text me the video. TIA.
How's the wife?
Ups and downs. We had some pretty deep discussions recently, about needing to keeping fighting this, making an effort to not let the depression take over, staying strong for the kids, etc. She seemed better for few days, at least her disposition despite the pain. She's in bed with a bad one today, though. I struggle every day with convincing her to keep hope and trying to make things semi "normal" around here for the kids. Thanks for asking, buddy.

Otis, regarding your wife's birthday et al.....I think the brunch is MORE than enough, GB. Unless I'm way off base, a fancy brunch for 40 of her friends with endless adult drinks is going to set you back what...$3,500 with tax, tip and miscellaneous? That's a TON of money. Maybe not for you fancy lawyers, but you're setting the bar REALLY high if this sort of expense for a birthday (regardless of the milestone) isn't enough.
No ####. If that isn't "going big", then I don't know what is. Just doing that and what everyone else is saying, to be reliable and do everything around the house and for her during the near future.

I've never spent more than 10 minutes mulling over a mattress purchase. Is this like buying a car or something? Of course, I can sleep anywhere at anytime (and often do) so maybe I'm the oddball.
I'm with you. Our current mattress sucks but I could sleep for 20 hours straight given the chance. It's more for the wife.

Any tax experts? I started a thread, but really just curious about two things:

Do I claim small amounts from class action lawsuits as income if I did not receive a 1099?

Also, can someone confirm that for my IRA's, when shares are sold to cover the management fee, that is not treated as a taxable event, but I cannot claim those fees as tax deductions.

:( Hang in there brother.

He was wearing a tshirt ninja mask. See chat roulette thread from the other place if still up.

Ranted about shuke's numbering system in who's hottest threads.

Drinking beer, watching the teevee and playing video games. Thoughts on optimizing my experience?
I finished house of cards season 2 while drinking beer and playing chess against shuke and UNi. Pretty good day so far. About to get more beer and find another series to watch (although I am thinking of watching house of cards season 1 again).Anything else on Netflix I should be watching?
Sherlock is good if you haven't seen it. First 2 seasons are on Neftlix.
Thanks for the suggestion. I've heard good things.
It's smart, fast-paced and the acting is out of this world. Go for it.
Started watching Season 3 last night but had to turn it off. Obviously you need to see the first 2 seasons before you watch the 3rd.
Yes. The third season was much more arc and less episodic than the first two.

:lmao: at the shuke terrorist video.
Did anyone save this? Can I get a rough transcript?
I did not, sorry. It began with a black ice comment before moving into more current material. "You" were anonymously dressed in a pair of ski goggles with a face-obscuring balaclava or some such. The friendly, earnest voice was in total disconnect with the visual. Maybe it will be reposted.

Man I gotta see this. What means, "See chat roulette thread from the other place if still up"?

Doing my best, brother, thanks.

Thorn:

My cousin is a lawyer in the Bay Area. He was with a pretty big firm in SF. They did mostly insurance/liability stuff for some big corporations.

He worked is way up rather fast. Partner etc etc. About 5 years ago (when he was about 45) he broke off and started his own firm with couple of other folks.

I spent some time with him this summer. He said "I should have done it 5 years before...despite the fact that I was set."
 everyone I've talked to that has done this has said essentially the same thing. It's ridiculously nerve-wracking, but I'm about as certain as I can be that this is the step that needs to happen.
Good luck. I think you're going to do exceptionality well.
:goodposting:

Really happy for you, GB.

You need something catchy though to bring in clients. I would like to suggest "Better phorne Thorn".
Get Thorn on the horn

And you aren't just setting it high for you. Think of all the women that will go back to their husbands/SOs and say "Wow, that Otis is SOOOOOOOOO great, he treated all 40 of us to brunch with bottomless bloodys and mimosas. Why don't you ever do that?" You're already putting yourself at risk for a shanking at the next large gathering where these husbands will be present.

Throttle it back, big guy. You don't need to buy her a zoo animal or take her to Mars because she's turning 30 and having a baby. Brunch for 40 is way more than enough. Maybe toss in a pedicure/manicure or some jewelry if you really feel like you need it, but damn man....I probably won't spend $3,500 on my wife for the next 20 birthdays combined.

But I'm poor, have 3 kids and a wife with very low expectations (duh, look who she married),
:greatposting:

About 30 minutes ago, my husband left to go fix a sink at his parents' house and took our almost-8-month old daughter with him. It just occurred to me that this is the first time since having her that I have been in my house, alone. I don't know what to do with myself but it's really nice. It also made me think of Otis and his question.

Otis, without knowing anything about your wife other than your assertions that she's low maintenance, I would say the brunch should be plenty. If you want to do something nice for her on top of that, give her a night away at a local hotel or something. Chances are, she could use an extended amount of the kind of quiet time I'm really enjoying right now. Especially after your 2nd arrives (glll and congrats on that by the way).

I can't post here anymore , not liking Dumb and Dumber.... dealbreaker....

Insert if we knew that we would have said it earlier so you would have never posted in here joke

Established board thread from years ago. Tanner killed as tshirt ninja.
I think it speaks to how funny it was that I knew nothing about any of this, didn't even realize it was a t-shirt over the face, and still loved it. The visual plus the voice delivery were money.
Could have used a script.
:lmao: I thought he was reading from one. It flowed pretty well.
The numbers kept sounding like variants of pi.

How the hell do any of you guys keep up on this thread, or follow any one conversation in it for that matter, while maintaining a life outside of here? I post once and I check back in a few hours later and suddenly it's 10 pages later and there's no way I can sift back through to get caught up. This is insane.

Few highlights:

- shuke looks like you're going through some tough stuff at home, though I skimmed -- hope all is well, sending good vibes your way

- Thorn, I think you started a law firm. Gonna try and dig for some more details on this. Very psyched for you and wishing you luck.

- Congrats to Brent and GM and whoever the hell else suddenly because distance runners overnight. Knock em dead. I bought a knock-off Total Gym made by Weider for $150 on Amazon. Got great reviews. When I was 22 I lost about 50 lbs and got into the best shape of my life using that thing. It's the only thing that ever seemed to work for me. Figure I'll give it a shot ahead once OKid#2 arrives any day now (until then I'm drinking as much booze and eating as many cookies as I can find).

- Thanks for the advice on the wife birthday present. Found the perfect hit and knows what she wants, so I'm pulling the trigger and should be all set.

- Anyone want to swap me something for a PS3? I'm thinking something like a couple of sweet t-shirts with the logo of your local auto body place, or one of those beer mugs that freezes, or something cool like that. Serious inquiries only pls., and you better PM me, because I bet by the time I get back in here it'll be 30 pages from now and I'll never find your offer of sweet gear.

That one section may have needed another rewrite. THE REST OF THE VIDEO WAS FUNNY DAMMIT

After asking for advice, come in and tell us that you've found the perfect thing... but don't bother to tell us what it is

Trying to figure out what to do the rest of the day. We were supposed to go mattress shopping but wife not feeling good. Was hoping to save Lego movie for tomorrow, could do it tonight but really wanted my wife to go so we could go as a family.

Have that bed sitting in boxes in our garage. Maybe I'll just buy a mattress off Amazon.
Have you checked the mattress thread here? Tons of great info about memo foam in particular. Since having one of those I'll never go back. And there are some pretty sweet deals to be had.

Time to go pick the kid up, take her out to dinner and then do the daddy/daughter dance thing. She's excited and nervous, so I can't help but get a little hyped up for it. Should be a fun time for her and that's good enough for me. Looking forward to a nice glass of bourbon after she goes to bed

Otis, you doth protest too much. Your summary and responses were pretty much on point. Good luck with the wife's birthday celebration. Imagine the fun in later years when your wife and daughter #2 have b-days so close.

oats being oats.

pretty sure that means you're going to have your wife whacked? right?

Na, it's just not that exciting. A nice new bag, wallet and sunglasses for spring. She loves that stuff and there's one in particular I know she likes. I laid the hint and she was against spending the money, but after I twisted for a while she relented. I think she'll be happy. That plus the party will be a nice back-to-spring, getting her body back after the baby, etc. celebration. Between this pregnancy and the two she lost before it (one pretty far along), it feels like she's been pregnant for years. Just looking forward to maybe having regular secks again.

<insert comments about how stupid I am to think that with a 3yo and infant in the house suddenly it'll turn into Hustler Club>

I don't, which leads me to saying idiotic #### like "how's the job going?" when the person I'm directing it to just got fired for having a threesome with the boss' daughter and the lead waitress. Half of the thrill here is flying without a net.
