GM's thread about nothing (12 Viewers)

I'd really like to get a TV. I was thinking 42" was enough, but now I'm thinking that I have to have a 55". Currently have a 19" CRT. Will there still be good sales after all the Christmas hoopla?
I have read at a bunch of different places that the prices will be starting to increase sometime in early 2011, so I would probably jump on a deal as soon as you can. What kind of price range are you thinking about?
I'd like to spend under $1000. I want something that isn't too expensive, but is a quality picture. I don't really care if it's LCD or plasma if they are both fairly thin and light.
Ideal size depends on how far away from the TV you'll be when viewing. I think there are charts online for figuring this out.Murrrrry Crimmus, amigos!

Actually, prices on electronics decrease in january if you don't mind "last year's model" b/c that's when all the new models come out. Since you're going from a 19" CRT, any decent TV you get will be a huge upgrade. You'll have no problem going under 1000. I think Sams has a few 55" for around 800 that are fine.

Is this where I ask alcohol questions?I have learned this summer that I like Captain and Coke (well, spiced rum and coke zero). I have tried regular Capt Morgan, Sailor Jerry, Admiral Nelson and just yesterday, I bought some Spiced Jack. The only differences besides price is proof. Does it matter what I am mixing with my Coke (zero)? Is spiced rum, good to drink straight? Oh, and I have liked all 4 of the rums that I have bought. Didn't really find a difference. Just checking to see what any experts have to say.
try it with Diet Dr. Pepper. Works very well together.
Word. Captain Morgan PS and Diet Dr. Pepper tastes (and goes down) like candy.

A 300-mile-long line of thunderstorms is hitting Dallas, Austin and San Antonio simultaneously. Glad I don't have to go anywhere today. The rum that nobody mentioned earlier is the Kracken. Our GB Samuel will testify it is the bomb.
That same system is dumping about 2-3 inches of snow on us here in STL today. Good times.

He just told me I was logged in with the wrong name. He can't believe I'm in trouble. (This was dictated to me by Cal.)
Time for Cal to learn the old "Acorn-Tree" analogy.
lolHis exact words "you got to be kidding me".
Tell him "Same as Day 1." If you can get him to use that in proper context in a conversation with his mom, I'll send him a present.
Should be easy enough. Let me see what I can do.

Guests have arrived and settled in (e.g., Mrs. BL's blood pressure has dropped to an acceptable level). It's been a fun day of last minute stuff:

[*]picked up the last minute stocking stuffers before 9 a.m.

[*]spend the rest of the morning making peanut butter cup ice cream

[*]most of the afternoon baking Christmas cookies

[*]in the background watching

on near-coninuous loop (Chloe's favorite)
Tonight is mega takeout night - Chinese, Mexican, rotisserie chicken, and sushi. IOW, nobody could agree so we gave up.

Hope everyone has a great holiday.

I just spent the afternoon with one of my best GBs. She makes me laugh like no one else. We went to lunch then to her little brother's house (who is equally as funny) so that they could do a dry run on some Christmas cooking. While over there, we hopped in his golf cart and headed to a new craft beer place in town. This is the first of its kind around here, and I was thrilled to see it. Grabbed a growler of Allegash Curieux and headed back.

I drank good beer and laughed for 3 straight hours this afternoon. I haven't done that in a while. I have that great sense of contentment right now... just in time for family dinner and the rest of Christmas. :bs:

Hope everyone is having the kind of day I've had. :banned:

Just woke up. Mrs. SLB left hours ago. :lmao:I got up enough a few hours ago to tell the boys to clean the house because Santa was coming. Not to mention my inlaws and parents. They're doing a great job. I love you Santa.
;)Mr. krista4 and I bought a painting at an auction at the Brooks Museum of Art in May. We paid $3,500, but it is very large and cool and we were drunk by that point in the auction. We've seen and loved a lot more of the artist's work since that time, and Mr. krista4 decided to go to the gallery that donated the piece in search of possible Christmas gifts for me. Turns out the artist died about a month ago. Gallery owner says that our painting is now worth...$20,000!! :goodposting:eoMMan will hate this story, but I am blown away and have to share it with someone, and I don't want to tell any family members.
Are you trying to tell us that your husband killed a man as a Christmas gift to you?
He didn't kill him, but the daily black tar heroin drops the mail slot were not exactly ethical.

:goodposting: A friend's daughter got a this little puppy for Christmas. They posted this photo (no idea if anyone else can see it) on Facebook and were asking for name suggestions. It's a tiny little female puppy. Looks like a Terrier/Pekingese mix. Very, very cute pup.

My 18 year old son said "Rampage".

My sil just said chocolate diamonds are really cool and I told her what a rip off they are. I hope my racist bil (not Mrs. SLB's brother) didn't get her any for Christmas.

I invited our black neighbors over since their family canceled due to the weather.

Should be interesting.

I'm going to start drinking heavily.

I'm also drinking heavily. We can't travel to see the family for Christmas, so it's a pretty low-key holiday this year. We were headed to church for a Christmas Eve service, but JR was such a disaster at dinner that we skipped it and I came straight home to pour a glass of bourbon even though I wasn't going to drink tonight. The only amusing part of dinner was watching him dip his cheese quesadilla in queso. Gotta love a boy that puts cheese in his cheese.

Ripper was the first thing that popped into my head. Not sure why.I had a bit of a panic attack just now as my old as hell DVD of Christmas Vacation was a digital mess when I switched the source on my TV. It's my 2nd most heralded Christmas tradition to watch this movie on Christmas Eve. 2nd behind eggs benedict at my grandmother's ("that one") on Christmas Day, and just ahead of sushi on Christmas Eve at my favorite local establishment. I didn't have sushi today, but met my sister there for a drink a bit ago. Turns out the DVD is just fine after a reboot of the system and I'm about to watch Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid weave their masterpiece for a bit.

Christmas Eve dinner conversation centered mostly around how many of my friends have had forceps used while giving birth to their children. Dad was on a roll.

Merry Christmas, everyone. :lmao:

OMGOMGOMG! I just remembered there are two gallons of sangria in my refrigerator! BRB.
I put a brisket in my parents' garage refrigerator and found a couple of hidden bottles of wine! :hifive:
Did they let your boyfriend come?
We drove up together yesterday, got in around 11:15 last night. He left at 9:00 this morning to go to Knoxville to be with his family, but will be back Saturday night, then we will leave together Sunday.

Drinking whiskey and watching Colorado-Indiana basketball. Is this game live or a replay? Never can tell with CBS college sports network.

Had to stop watching The Road because it freaked me out when Viggo and the kid went into the cellar with the languishing pseudo-zombies.

So this is Christmas

and what have you done?

another year over

Stockings are stuffed, gifts wrapped, whiskey drunk, and all is right with my world. Except I probably won't get any tonight. But aside from that, we're all good. Merry Xmas GBs.

Apparently I gave a "perfect" oral presentation today. Standing O from the audience. I rule!

Murry Chrimmus to everyone except Uncle Owen for drafting Deerhunter.

merry christmas, or whatever you heathens celebrate. one last bourbon and I'm going to bed.

thanks for being the degenerates that you are. I'll never forget that it was you random ifriends that got me through the worst christmas ever 2 years ago. this one is actually pretty tolerable.

How does Kracken compare in taste to Capt Morgan/Sailor Jerry/Adm Nelson/Spiced Jack? and not whether it is better than, but does it have a similar taste for Rum and Cokes?

You're the best bunch of people I've never met.**And to those that I have been fortunate enough to meet, you're pretty damn swell too.

GM, a gal at work gave me a bunch of books for Cal a month ago. They are above his level too but he is a pretty good reader as well. There were about 30 books and I didn't really bother looking through them all.

Then I noticed him reading this book.

I decided to take it away. Too many questions for a six year old.

If Asheville gets the 4 inches of Christmas snow the National Weather Service said is possible, a jewelry store in Wilmington may be out more than $250,000.

Alan Perry of Perry's Emporium will refund the cost of all jewelry purchased in his Wilmington store between Nov. 26 and Dec. 11 if at least 3 inches of snow falls in Asheville on Christmas Day.

UPDATE**************************************************************************

*****************

If snow keeps falling in Asheville as meteorologists are predicting, the city could set a record for the most snow on Christmas since record keeping began in 1902.

Some places in the Asheville area are already reporting nearly 4 inches of snow and Asheville is on track to get 8-10 inches of snow by Sunday morning. That smashes the previous record of 5.4 inches on Christmas Day in 1969.

Blizzard Warning for Rhode Island! My back went out terrible yesterday and I can't really walk. On top of that I let my lawn guy borrow my generator and the fridge is FULL of Christmas grub including a rib roast and a ton o shrimp. Merry Boxing Day! At least I have this kindle.
