GM's thread about nothing (11 Viewers)

Mr. YSR's birthday is on Monday and my mom just called, asking what to get him. He and I aren't big gift givers, so I told her "nothing", but apparently that won't stand. So she asked if there was a book he might like to read.

His interests: poker, movies, Special Forces (loves a good Netflix documentary on these groups), conspiracy theories (to a degree, he's not off the reservation or anything), home improvement/renovation and/or construction, investing (commodities, mostly), and MMA. He does not read novels.

Any of you guys have a book in one of these realms that I should look into?
Pretty good documentary about special forces that I saw a couple of years ago. Team America: World PoliceIt's a little bloody, but then so is war.

"The Great Gatsby"
You, I do not like.
"How Ancient Aliens Taught Delta Force to Re-felt Their Poker Table For Profit" by Tom Hanks (Illustrated by Dana &$%*@#& White)

Ironically, the movie was better than the book in this case. Especially Don Cheadle in the role of Tom Hanks.

Seal Team Six is a book written by an ex Navy Seal sniper who was in Mogadishu for the "Black Hawk Down" incident. Not the most well written book but definitely an interesting read for someone into the subject matter.

So anyway... good to know I can't stay out of the political threads for two entire days. If any peeps PM me their contact info, and I start to do more consulting in the US, I might come to buy you drinks one day.

Did you google map the east side of Youngstown?
No I have some weird encyclopedic knowledge of Mahoning County and the surrounding area.
that boy funny!
Really awesome posting, since we haven't been able to use the img function here since approximately April 22, 2003.

Tell me more about his interest in commodities....anything specific? Pretty broad range of topics fall under that rather large umbrella....help me drill down. Get it? Drill down? HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEH

"Dating" needs to be more modernized. Even after you get married, it doesn't change.

So you have: (possible movie)/drinks/dinner/drinks/(possible sex)/sleep

This sucks and is wrong. It isn't 1953 anymore, lets not "beat around the bush" about the whole goal of a "date" if I'm paying.

I propose: sex/(possible movie)/drinks/dinner/drinks/(possible more sex)/sleep

This just in: while I kinda agree with everything he said, Jonathan Franzen really is the snobby ##### that everyone says he is. It's pretty tough to agree with everything someone says, and still come away not liking him.

I expect 2 or 3 people in this thread to know what I'm talking about, and like maybe 1 of them will actually care a little (it's about novels).

Apologies to everyone else.

I was going to read all the pages I missed but then I was drunk and on vacation in Florida so I didn't. Congrats to those who deserve it, thropawishes to those who need them, and I'll see you guys in like 11 days.

Also I'll probably post this exact message like 8 times.

Very :excited: to see RWS here again!

Happy day to Tiger Fan!! I don't have to give wishes to Guster since he's kind enough to be my Facebook friend.
