Last night my daughter suggested that action movies employ real death row inmates as the villain, so when it's time for their character to inevitably die in the movie, they can just kill them for real. I was horrified, yet intrigued.

Awesome.

Been hanging out with my pooch all day. I'm covered in dog hair and I smell like him, he's eaten like a king, and I've got an appointment to do the deed in a little less than two hours. He's currently sleeping by the fire. It would have been much easier to do this early in the morning rather than make it an all day event. Thanks for the well wishes guys.
tpw...my oldest pup just turned 12 last week and hate to have any thoughts about that subject

So my mother and my daughter were having a conversation at one point yesterday and my daughter mentioned something about how we came from monkeys. My mother recoiled in horror and asked me does she really believe that? I just casually said yep and moved along. I knew my parents were crazy conservative Catholics, but I didn't know it was this bad. I mean, they pray for me daily because I don't go to church. But to deny science and evolution. Come on now :wall:
My 13-year-old nephew goes to a liberal Catholic school, and they did a field trip recently to the Creationist Museum in KY (liberal school = we're going to show you differing viewpoints just so you can spot the crazies). He said that there are actually people at the exhibits telling the kids that if they don't believe in what is displayed, they are going to hell. :loco:

Heading out to a retirement party for a lady I worked with. She makes the beer nerds on here look like amateurs. She has kegs from all the local breweries, including one small batch that was made just for her party. Plus she has a bunch of beer friends that make their own. And it's all free. :banned: :banned: :banned:

The parents are watching the kid, a buddy is picking me up. Since the crew is a bit odd, I think we're gonna hit it hard and fast and then go watch some college hoops

About once an hour, my dad gives me temperature updates of various places - where we are now, where they are from, a town near where thy are from, where my aunt and uncle live. If anyone wants to know the temperature where they are, I bet he can let me know. It's 50/50 as to whether I'll pass it along though
:lmao: Old people and weather. I don't get it.

Sorry again, man. Just had to do this about a year ago and it was brutal.

My wife's grandma is 100% convinced Obama lowered gas prices to get re-elected.

My MIL stopped dinner last night to toast Obama's re-election. Tacky, right?

It led to a somewhat-awkward exchange later with a (non-family) guest. And then I asked her what she'd think if we'd been visiting some of our Republican extended family in 2004 when Bush got re-elected, and if they'd toasted Bush getting re-elected. I could tell that one landed on the chin.

Then my wife told me it was hot when I gave her mom the business.

RIP Zeus

That was among the harder things I've done. We had a good day, most of which I've had tears either welling or streaming. He died in my arms. I got to chuck dirt on him. It sucked, but I feel really good about the timing. I don't feel he suffered much, but if we would have let it go any longer it would have been rough for him, and the most important thing for me was that he didn't suffer. He ate steak and apples (his favorite treat oddly enough) today, and spent most of the day doing something like this with me. He went out well.

I'm crying my eyes out right now. I loved that big stinky dog. I'm going to miss him a lot. I will definitely not be watching old yeller or where the red fern grows for a while.

We just had to do it to our girl earlier this year (11 years). :sadbanana: I cried for a week.

:banned: to Zeus. Sounds like you gave him a pretty great life.

Tech chat is to me what mini-van chat is to Krista.
:hifive: Scroll right through this crap.Although I do need a video camera. Been using this 8mm thing I've had for 15 years and it finally died.

Anyone with recommendations?
Flip cam?
I'm going to need more than that, brother.
I have one, super easy to take video and its small enough that it doesn't suck to carry around to events. Flip HD Video Camera

These are pretty easy for basic stuff but Cisco stopped making them. You can get one if you want but IMO you may just want to spend that money on upgrading your phone to one that does 1080p video. If you want something beyond basic then you dont want to use a flip or your phone.

My God, I am pretty desensitized by the internet, but nothing gets to me like a dog passing. i dont kniow what it is, a special bond, a man and his dog. I feel for you brother. Godspeed and may Zeus bathe in bacon.

Having bad cat/dog allergies I have never really had the opportunity to connect to an animal in such a way, which is something I regret

Loved the way the turkey came out...but it kind of tasted like, well...turkey. With a bit of a kick and a touch more taste. But my god, I put some elbow grease into this one. Can't wait to make soup tomorrow! Oh, reminds me. Need to text boss to tell him I'm out for the day. Thanks for reminding me, me.God I'm stuffed. Wife does pasta by hand. It's incredible. But if you've never had homemade pasta by an Italian on a day where sooooooo many other food items are present, tread very carefully. That stuff will expand in your stomach like a puffer-fish about 20 minutes after it hits. My god. I can't move. But, I can't move just enough to pour myself a large glass of Jameson (SP?). :excited: :excited: Can't wait until the kids go to bed so I can fire up joint, light a fire in my fire pit and smoke one of K4's Stoogs.
The soup. My god. The soup. wow. Used a mexican kick on this one and found a woman by the name of Laura Vitale to walk me through it. wish I could send you some. Holy hell. Top achievement of my life so far. That and starting the EAT OFF kick.

I realize I'm unlikely to get any sympathy for this.I'm so mentally, emotionally, and physically at the end of my rope with my job that Mr. krista and I discussed last night the idea that I might quit, giving a month's notice or some such, without looking for a new job first. This would entail giving up large amount of $$$ to which I'd be entitled in March. I had the Amazon interviews but otherwise haven't really pursued anything, but I'm not sure I can make it much longer.I've never worked in a place as dysfunctional, with so many people who are completely unable to do their jobs and spend about 99% of their time attempting to cover their asses instead. Everything I do is 1000 times more of a struggle than it should be, in terms of getting people to work together as a team, working toward the same goal. I work regularly with people who have absolutely no idea what they're doing, and sadly there isn't a disincentive for this. For three years I've beat the drum for at least some performance basis to our compensation, but my company just can't get there, and ceaseless, unrelenting cost-cutting means we are constantly overperforming with fewer and fewer resources. Ugh, I realize I'm not explaining this well. Simply put, I can't do anything more to protect the company, some of our senior management, and our owners from themselves. I sleep a few hours a night and my health is a complete wreck--not to mention my mental state--and things go further and further in the wrong direction every minute of every day. The company's results are heading in the wrong direction, and the good and now some of the bad rats are leaving the sinking ship. I've stuck it out as long as I have because I love my team, my boss (I realize no one ever says that!) and most of the legal department. We're very high-functioning but need help and support that is never going to be there.I've worked very, very hard in my entire career. I've never hesitated on long hours and personal sacrifices--I've not only regularly worked 50+ hours straight or 400 hours in a month in my jobs, but I've dialed in for conference calls from my dad's funeral. My dear grandmother committed suicide and, while she was in a coma, I ran back to Chicago to work for a day after getting "the call" only to return and find she had died overnight. I've never done this because of money but because I simply don't know how else to work or a way to give less than 100% to something. Money comes as an unnecessary bonus to working the only way I know how, and even then I "invest" it unwisely--as much as we joke about it, our Central American empire exists mostly to provide good jobs to Nicaraguans who need them. So the time and sacrifice is not the issue, but the inability to make any difference and the inequity of watching people coast by when my team and I might quite literally be killing ourselves isn't something that I feel like I can continue to survive. I'm at the end of my ####### rope.I just needed to type that.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I hate shopping, hate consumerism, hate fast food, hate modern music, hate most tv shows, hate hate hate.....But damn it, I LOVE Starbucks. And Rite Aid. Love.Just re-joined Costco. Hate that place too. No propane tank refill? really? Neat. Oh, but I can get a hot dog. :finger:possibly drunk.

I love Costco because I love quality products at reasonable prices, but I really, really hate going to Costco. There's something about warehouse shopping that brings out the worst in people.
