GM's thread about nothing (37 Viewers)

Just got done counting up my miles for tax purposes. JFC, no wonder it seems like I spend a fortune on gas and I even had a three month "break" in there and it doesn't count if I just to the office and back home.

doing my red sox squares pool thing again this year.

it usually fills up pretty quickly and i give returners (GM, Thorn, Zooks, Tre, TF and a bunch of folks from back home) first dibs on squares (max of 2/person), but if anyone is interested, let me know.

details are here
If you still have squares available after the returners I'm down for two.

GM/Drifter/Proninja and anyone else..I am joining my wife in Seattle (she has a conference) from Wed 4/10-Sat 4/13. We are staying downtown and do not plan on renting a car as there seems to be enough accessible by foot or by public transportation. If anyone has any advice on things to do/areas to not miss/etc it would be sincerely appreciated.Hotel address:The Arctic Club Seattle - DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel700 3rd Ave.Seattle, Washington 98104THANK YOU! Make me look good!!
Touristy stuff -Take the "Locks" Argosy cruise. Takes you up out of Elliot Bay and through the canal and locks into Lake Union. Pretty cool way to spend 2 hours or so.Take the ferry over to Bainbridge Island if the weather is nice. Better with bikes if you care to rent a couple. Stand on the aft deck when you go and you have a small shot of seeing some Orcas if you keep your eyes peeled. I saw a pod the last time I went over there in February.I've heard nothing but good things about the Underground tour even though I have not done it.The Market, obviously. If you do decide you want a car, there are tons of Zip car and Car2Go cars for the grabbing. For food, there are tons of options. Depends on what you like to eat. If you want a cool experience, take the water taxi over the West Seattle and go to Salty's on Alki for brunch Saturday or Sunday. Make a reservation in advance (like now) and ask for a window seat. Great view back at the downtown skyline and good food.
I'm a movie geek and really enjoyed catching a couple of films at the Cinerama Theater that Paul Allen restored. But most people think I'm a moron for watching movies while on vacation, so there's that.

So um, why isn't this ##### going to be in jail for the rest of her life? My link
It's people like this and the Duke lacrosse accuser who help make it difficult for real victims to step forward.

She should receive his sentence. I've always thought that that was the proper penalty for perjury.
So she should be thrown in a male prison for 5 years? I would be all for that.
Bob - they ate at Kemoll's and said that it was really good - thanks again for the reco

The second night they ended up going to Pi with a group from the plant
 Pi is President Obama's favorite pizza. I understand he gets it flown in to the White House. I've never had it though.

Great Happy Hour - One of my favorites for cheap eats that are Asian inspired. They also have Ninkasi ESB on tap, which is one of my very favorite beers pouring right now and can be hard to find on tap. Terrific place to take your lady. But most people think I'm a moron, so there's that.

Just started taking my blood pressure medicine again for the first time in two months. I just got over a throat/sinus/flu thing that made me hacking up crud for three days. And I forgot that the medicine makes me cough in a painful way for three days when I am "starting" to take it again. So I feel fine except my neck muscles feel like they've just competed in the Iron Man on their own.

Better pour some beer on it.

Pretty much decided. Last day of "work" April 26 (when I'll be somewhere in Asia after my April 22 Singapore meeting). Travel a couple of weeks. Come back and work part-time/temp (I have an excellent opportunity available to me in this regard) while selling or giving away most of my possessions, with a target move to Nicaragua August 1, or earlier if someone buys my house.

This is the best news I have heard today. Hope someone buys your house soon. And you love relaxing in Nicaragua. And you visit Seattle again soon.

Good luck as you travel the world

Thanks, GBs all!I told my boss today what my decision was as to what I'm doing. Considering he is the last person in the world to do something like this, he was shockingly supportive. Called my decision "courageous" and "brilliant", among other things. That made me feel better.

Tomorrow is big day as we have to break it to my team (other than the two who already know) and then later the rest of the company. Communications guy was happy he had a better story to tell now, but still said I was "dead to [me]".

Those Walking Dead nerds are taking that show way too seriously.
I just don't understand the fascination with zombies. Same deal with the vampire fad of the late 80s/early 90s. I'm not 10, so maybe I'm just outside the target demographic.
At their heart, both genres have interesting social & cultural critiques. Zombies worked as a great metaphor for the soullessnes of industrial factory life, and this translated well to critique the McJob cubicle hell of post-industrial life. Plus zombies are funny. Vampires have always been about sexual predation, and feminists in particular have done some good work with the genre. A good pop/tv example is the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. Of course, like any genre, there's a lot of crap in the stew. I don't know where The Walking Dead stands, but see Twilight for a good thing turned into overwrought teen romance.

I like anything involving the end of the world. I don't know why, but I find it interesting. I've read tons of books on it too.

And yet this guy couldn't get into Glengary Glen Ross...I just don't understand the world sometimes.

Krista, congratulations. I hope, and believe, that you will be happier than you've ever been before.

Until you adopt a Nicaraguan baby. O/U on that is Oct. 1.

The Malaise family has planned out all its meals for the months of March and April and in an effort to simplify things, every Monday is MEXICAN MONDAY!!!!11 :excited: :excited: :excited:

Tonight, I was in charge, and even though I really wanted to try the complex enchilada recipes (and because my wife doesn't eat chicken), I decided to make Meatless Mexican Lasagna.

At least it smells good.

I agree with this guy. Can we add in all the comic book movies too, or is that pushing it too far?
Add 'em. We're regressing into attention starved adolescents.

I was going to recommend the underground tour. It's a ton of fun, but kind of dependent on the guide you get. If you get a good guide, it rocks. If you get a mediocre guide, it's still pretty cool. Definitely worth doing.

If I may be permitted to defend the show for a moment...I've never seen a "vampire" movie or TV show in my life. I've never touched a comic book in my life. Hell, I haven't even played a video game since Atari. But there's just something cool about TWD. To narrow it down simplistically, I enjoy seeing the zombies getting their heads taken off with swords, and stomped on until their brains squish out.Sue me.

Vampire and zombie movies generally have car chases.

Canucks really do things differently. Are we the only ones who make up what we're doing for dinner that day? Sometimes the wife and I text each other possibilities, sometimes we just have a 60 second conversation before cooking. Also, all three of us usually have different meals. Ms. Canuck is a veggie, I need a protein rich meal, and the Flaming Bird is a little booger about what he will or will not eat, choosing starvation with fanatic obstinacy if we don't negotiate his dinner first. Usually it's funky twist on what I'm eating, like if I'm having chicken breasts, he has little shredded up pieces of chicken with a blob of ketchup to dunk them in. My wife is a saint to deal with all this nonsense.
So, are you retiring (sorta)? Sorry, I didn't follow closely enough.
Oh, look at the tiny notebook on this guy!
:lmao: :lmao:
