GM's thread about nothing (11 Viewers)

Holy MFS! Was that Steve Earle I just saw on Wires? This changes everything!
Yeah but he doesn't sing or anything. You have to watch The Tremes for that.

I am on Episode 9, Season 1. I can tell already that my love for the character Wallace is not going to turn out well for me. :(
his whole sex change to be able to remain free and still run the drug empire in season 3 was when this jumped the shark for me

On the dark side of big corporate living today. Hey, we really value you and think you do a good job so here's a #### ton of money but #### you, we're not going to do anything that might advance your career because you haven't kissed enough ### in the past year.
Sorry GB. Corporate life can be the suck.
If you can let go of your pride and individuality, it can be awesome.
You might like Starbucks after all. Everyone here is an individual. That's why we are so unproductive. I am literally creating my job every day and choosing whichever direction my team will go, along with many others like me. Not sure if that makes any sense.
Yeah- I understand the VP you hired from here is no longer there. Not suprised. He was hired as something he wasn't and his personality wasn't a fit. Somebody screwed up on that one.
I don't care if you hate your jobs. I work in Seattle now. When are we drinking?
Name it. Next two Fridays I'm either getting drunk with Guster or flying back to Seattle but after that I'm pretty much wide open. Britney is the one who'd hard to nail down
Fridays are good for me, and I'm inviting myself
Which Friday?

Corporate chat related: We found out on Tuesday (the first day back from spring break) that one of the principals in our district suddenly resigned. When somebody in education resigns in the middle of the school year there is usually some major drama behind it. So far everybody has been pretty tight-lipped about it. The rumor-mill has been pretty quiet. Just yesterday I heard one version of what happened. I'd put the odds at 2-1 that it is true. There have been complaints about Gary's management and leadership skills for the last 3 years or so. Nothing major but most of his teachers don't like him. I've also heard that some parents aren't too crazy about him either. So I guess it all came to a head the week before Spring Break. Our superintendent, we'll call him Chalmers, goes to see Gary in his office. Chalmers: I'll get right to the point. We're really not happy with your style of leadership and there have been way too many complaints. Gary:  Chalmers: We think the best thing is to reassign you to the district office until August [when our contracts run out]. That will give us a chance to evaluate the situation and give you time to maybe look elsewhere for a position. Gary:  Chalmers: This has been going on for a few years, Gary. You know this is a fair resolution to the problem, right? Gary: F*** you. So the next day they hold an emergency board meeting where Gary just turns in his resignation. Not sure why he didn't take the offer since it would be about 5 months free salary for doing a jerk-off job. Hopefully, since he's no longer an employee of the district, we'll get the full story soon.

I've never really understood Gary. At one point he was the VP at my school and I got along with him very well. He was also the first admin (during my tenure) to host a Christmas party where booze was served (our principal at the time was a very uptight Baptist woman).

What was really weird about him is that he and I were hired at the same time. He was probably about 35-36 at the time. He had been working as a supervisor/manager for one of the big oil companies. Pretty sweet gig...company car, bonuses etc.

Some people just want to get out of the rat-race and do something "that matters". I thought that's what he was doing. But within a couple of years of teaching he starts working towards his admin degree. After only 5-6 of teaching he starts climbing the administrative ladder...VP, Dean, and finally Prinicipal of one of the elementary schools.

Essentially less than 10 years after he leaves a high paying administrative/management position in the private sector he's doing the same thing in education. He could have just stayed in oil and made about $75k more a year.

Next couple Fridays suck for me. Maybe check a mariners schedule. I may be able to lay my hands on 4 free seats.

So I think I mentioned that the CEO of my largest client was ousted after a merger a couple of weeks ago. Nobody would take his office over so they made the obvious decesion to give me his furniture free of charge. Believe me, the upgrade is cool and all but I would rather him still be with the company * a million.

What are you, Otis?
It's about 2000 square feet. How much do you think it would cost to finish it right?

That may imply that his departure from the oil industry wasn't 100% voluntary.

It would seem that way but it was. I know/knew people that worked with him and said he just gave it up.

There's something oddly refreshing about getting some real work done late on a Friday night with a drink in my hand. Clearly, when I read that sentence, I want to slap myself...but what can I say
I'm a big fan of drunken productivity. It fits with my "last email out" policy. I usually spend an hour every night responding to emails with a glass of wine or bottle of beer in hand so that the ball is in somebody else's court whenever the day starts.
Big fan of this strategy.
How do you feel about calling people either at lunchtime or late evening in their time zones to avoid having to talk with them? I regularly employ these.
:goodposting: for those "sorry I forgot to [follow up in some way]" calls, but it's always awesome when you're in voicemail mode placing the call and then someone answers.
:lmao: Yeah, that's ungood.

I'll be there in a few weeks and there's an Astros/Mariners game on the 23rd (Tuesday night). Out of that week, that's the least possible chance that a work dinner will pop up. Thoughts?

I just woke up. There's a bottle of Jameson and an empty pint glass on the coffee table and a FB thread littered with a bunch of drunk people quoting Full Metal Jacket. Oh yea, I watched that last night. I also (virtually( serenaded my wife on FB, to the delight of many, including Homer, who joined in to declare his love for her too. I'm not sure what's going on, but I suspect that when I turned 40 an evil gremlin came in the night to steal my superpower of Hangover Immunity, because I woke up at 7am with a pounded headache and a mouth full of rat @$$, then struggled back to sleep until now. But it was all worth it, because I finally learned that Jameson does not have an 's' at the end. Thanks Tre!

I really can't wait to hear the Uni vs Stu story tomorrow.

Seriously the only interesting thing posted in the last 3 pages.
Nothing really exciting. I was kinda hoping Stu's big friend Dan (who I drunkenly kept calling Don all night by mistake, damnit) would pull a Homer and dump beer all over a stripper or something, but everything was fairly tame. It had been a long time since I had been to a strip club.. Not sure exactly how much I spent but there were multiple trips to the ATM involved. Way too drunk. I'm a big fat idiot. :bag:

I felt bad because I think Stu had to be up at 8 this morning to take his son camping or some such. We got there around 6 and were originally planning to just stay for an hour or two at most. I think it was after midnight and I was still forcing Stu to stay because I fell in love with one particular blonde girl. We smoked many cigarettes on the patio. Very classy. She was probably the hottest 26 year old with four kids (ages 11, 8, 6, and 3) I've ever met... She dialed her number in my phone and said we should go out sometime. Seems like a great idea, what could go wrong?

Was a fun day though. I want to do Opening Day every weekend.

ETA: Just remembered that I made out with blonde stripper for several minutes. :bag: I think I have an assigned seat on Stu's Herpes Bus now. Never hanging out with that degenerate again.
Don't apologize to Stu. It's his fault he procreated and is getting married. First Dentist, then Stu. These people need to learn to stop growing up.

If PJ played with BB King would some of you mix them together in a bowl and spread them on the stage?

The perfect Wheelhouse-GMTAN crossover post.

JR and I went for breakfast tacos and beer about 8:30 this morning. If everything breaks right, we won't have to leave the house again today.

40% able to do this. Not telling what might come up, but taking a day off and going to a ballgame is therapy I need

Extremely doubtful on ball game appearance, as I have very little interest in baseball. I am very likely able to do happy hour before though. Will check with neighbor if he can get good seats for that game.

I'd be down for this.

If four or five of you went to an Astros game that would be great as it would double attendance and there's a shot that they'd let you play the field for a few innings.

Major clamp down on the duckets right now, GB. I took all of Mrs. SLB's credit cards and ATM card away if that tells you anything.

Bob, you know that you don't have to build the entire dungeon all in one shot, right? Installments, buddy.
Major clamp down on the duckets right now, GB. I took all of Mrs. SLB's credit cards and ATM card away if that tells you anything.
You need a card for that???

So I think I mentioned that the CEO of my largest client was ousted after a merger a couple of weeks ago. Nobody would take his office over so they made the obvious decesion to give me his furniture free of charge. Believe me, the upgrade is cool and all but I would rather him still be with the company * a million.

So my home office went from this http://imageshack.us/a/img40/5333/homeofficey.jpg

Cover up that concrete for christ's sake.
We've been over this, my home office is in my unfinished basement. I wish I had 50-75k (?) laying around to finish it but I don't.
What are you, Otis?
It's about 2000 square feet. How much do you think it would cost to finish it right?

I'm sorry, were you counting on her to pay for the torture equipment or something?
More like my retirement.

Updates:

As of yesterday, I am 7 months pregnant, which freaks me right the eff out for some reason. I feel like I've been pregnant for forever, but it now seems to be progressing in warp speed. In the last 2 weeks, I've had a tremendous amount of anxiety, and though I've had a really, really easy pregnancy thus far, I think a lot of this has to do with hormones. My heart is racing, I can't sleep at night, etc. I'm just thinking about how we will support this child - right now, we get by on my salary but Romo is "in between jobs" and all I can think of is how I can find a part time job to make a little bit of a cushion until he lands on his feet. Blah blah blah, but if any of you has a spouse who is doing something part time (not selling oils) that a 7- months pregnant person can do, can you send me some information?

I have Wires ready to send to T Bell, but strangely work picked up last week and I was unable to do so. It should go out Monday, without fail. What sucks is that I promised a care package to Frosty almost a year ago and I haven't delivered. So, I will give Redman instructions to mail to Frosty upon completion, and from there it can go anywhere.

Because Dollywood was cancelled, I determined that today was going to be a clean out day. We have a "rental properties" shed in our backyard that houses a lot of things like extra toilets, refigerators, etc. But it's become a catch-all for other junk as well. I want to organize that shed in order to free up space so that we can move some bins from our basement to the shed and then move things from our upstairs into our basement. You know, in order to create some kind of nursery.

And speaking of, someone asked me the other day what my "theme" for my nursery is. My initial response was something along the lines of "um, crib, dresser, dressing table?". Babies don't really need a whole lot in the first month or two, right? Right??

My crazy coworker is still crazy. She told me the other day that when evaluating a new boy (as she still calls them), she feels that if he uses marijuana, that's as big a turn off as it would be if he believed in abortion. I thought that to be a pretty fair comparison.

That's all for now. I think.

First, LMFAO at your previous Dollywood post.

Second, hang in there GB. You're going to be an awesome mother. Plus just think, you can get all drunked up on wine in a couple of months.

Third, how many times you peeeing in an hour? Three, four?

YSR> You don't need a nursery theme. AngryWife was baby crazy and the farthest she went was having the paint & curtains match. Most of the baby stuff you get will be completely worthless and there will be a moment when you're surrounded by mountains of baby/toddler stuff and you realize that about 5% of it is necessary.

For example, JR has a train table that gets very little use, yet we have four distinct and incompatible complete sets of trains, tracks and accessories (two sizes of wooden train sets, one Lego set, one Thomas the Train set) sitting on it.
